Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Book of truth

"All I see is a decayed, rotten, insects crawling corpse", said Hannah then started gagging.

"Why don't we check under the corpse", Mari suggested

"Wait, wait wait.. let me get this right, you want us to to..to..touch that thing", asked Liv with gaped mouth.

"Not exactly if you have telekinesis already then yeah use your magic but if not we will do it the old fashion way"

"What!, What of Hannah she should know how to do it "

"At least she finally admitted she's bad at magic", Hannah said

"No am not. Am still in training that's why "

"You've been in basic level for ten years", Hannah said with a roll of her eyes

Scoffing and turning her head away Liv whispered, "baby steps ok"

"Yeah sure", Hannah said turning towards the corpse, she cracked her knuckles, stretched out her hands and said some incantation and immediately green smoke started to appear around the corpse as it began to gradually float on air.

"Wow this remind me of when Frankenstein raised....

"Oh will you shut up Liv", Hannah groaned.

"Guys shhh...were in the graveyard keep it down we don't want to disturb the dead", said Mari

"Are you sure about not waking them up, cause am pretty sure we already did when we were digging", said Cleo looking round their surrounding then whispered "I have a feeling were being watched right now and not the good kind"

"Was there ever a good kind", asked Liv to Cleo who just shrugged

"Ok guys, we have a minute before I drop this corpse down am feeling weak from this spell am using", groaned Hannah.

"Right sorry", said Cleo then began searching alongside Mari.

"What are you waiting for", Hannah asked Liv who just stood there watching

"Am not touching that thing", Liv said folding her arms

"Argh we're is it, I don't see anything the coffin is basically empty now", said Mari

They began patting everywhere in the coffin looked under, on top, the sides but didn't find it

"Guys I can't hold it much longer, any luck yet", asked Hannah doing her best to keep the corpse afloat

"Nothing" Mari said frustrated "is empty"

Groaning Hannah dropped the corpse with a loud thud causing the corpse to pieces more than it already was. She fell to her knees and steadied herself with her hands "gawd that was tiresome", whispered Hannah panting heavily.

"But the book wasn't even in there", whined Liv

"The book should be close, like what Cleo said you can't separate a keeper from it", Mari said

"What do you mean Mari, we checked, it's not here we literally just dug up six feet for nothing", said Cleo

"True but what if is not inside the grave but at the side"

Liv gasped "there was a flower at the side of the grave, at first I found it odd for a flower to be still blooming at this part of the graveyard, but what if that's were the book is"

"Wow I had no idea you could make smart assumptions like this", said Hannah

"There are so many things you don't know about me"

"And I assure you, we don't want to know, mostly me", said Hannah

Clapping her hands together Mari said, "fine then, me and Liv will close up this grave while Hannah and Cleo both of you will dig out the flower", she said

Mari and Liv closed the lid of the coffin and climbed out of the grave with Cleo and Hannah.

Truth be told there was a flower next to William Benjamin grave, a white single rose sticking out from the ground.

"Ok the flower is real and now we have to be fast cause we don't have much time", said Mari giving Liv a shovel. Both of them began to cover the grave with sand while Cleo and Hannah started digging the ground of the flower.

They all finished at the same time, Mari made sure the grave was just like how it was then went over to help her friends to lift the chest they found under the flower.

Blowing the dust on top of it they studied the chest, it looked ancient with drawings of rose and swords on it and an inscription written on it with a foreign language. Mari noticed the language was similar to the ones she saw at the back of the history books and the swords and rose just like what the mer life had said but didn't say a word about it to her friends.

"Is it just me or I find it really odd, like who buried him, how and why did they separate the book from him and all that, sounds pretty suspicious to me", Hannah whispered to Liv.

"Doesn't matter as long as we got the book", Liv shrugged.

"Off cause it doesn't", Hannah said with a roll of her eyes.

"Come on let's crack it open" said Cleo.

Using a stone she had found, Cleo broke the lock of the chest and opened it.

"Ok I wasn't expecting the lock to be this easy to open", said Cleo.

"Weird", Mari muttered.

"Again what's weird for me is, since a keeper can't be separated from his book, isn't it supposed to be buried with him maybe in his tailcoat or something but yet it's separated from him and buried in its own chest", asked Hannah

"Someone must have buried it but who", asked Cleo

"A family member perhaps", asked Liv

"The file didn't mention any, something doesn't feel right", said Mari.

"Everything about this doesn't feel right", said Cleo

"Well let's think about that later... Is the book in there", Hannah asked Cleo.

"Yes", Cleo said with her breadth hitching, she brought out a black leather book with no inscriptions or drawings on it. It looked old well obviously, its papers where already brown with age, the spiral bind holding the contents of the book together was already weak. It was like an old diary, with its edges already chipping off.

"It looks like a diary", said Mari

"Well it is a diary", Hannah said

"Yeah but... I was expecting something more fancy not some old looking leather book", Mari said disappointed.

"Uh duh it's more than 500 years of age", said Hannah giving Mari 'the look '

"Uh..guys we have a huge problem", said Cleo turning the back of the book to them which showed a lock that requires a key "it's locked"

Cursing under her breadth Mari took the book and examined it "this is a huge problem indeed", she looked at her friends and asked "did any of you by chance see a key....well...a victorian kind", she said now staring at the key hole

"No"

"Nope"

"Noth....guys we have another problem", gasped Liv with her heart racing.

"Seriously Liv stop breathing on my neck", yelled Hannah.

"It's not me", yelled Liv with her voice squeaking "oh we're so dead", she whispered.

"Who is it, if not you then", Hannah asked turning to Liv but was met with a giant werewolf panting with ragged breadths. It was rouge, not the kind to mess with.

"Oh boy.... guys "

"Shit....I knew finding the book can't be that easy", said Cleo.

"Look, that's definitely the key hanging on his neck...do you think maybe his the....."

"Protector of the book", Cleo said cutting Mari off.

Immediately they ran down hill and hid behind a large tomb stone. The creature began searching for them, destroying things here and there.

"Isn't a werewolf supposed to be good with sense and smell", whispered Liv

"This one looks like it's dysfunctional", she added.

"Aren't you supposed to be happy were not getting eaten right now", asked Mari.

"Yeah it does look like his senses are bad, probably was injected with those weird potions they use during training session", said Cleo.

"Nah am using a shield spell on us that's why his senses are locked, I can only use this when where all together in one place", said Hannah.

"And we really can't stay here for long", Mari added

"Come on why would a mere werewolf be the protector of a book when William was basically like a personal adviser to the royals", said Hannah

"The way I see it, there isn't any protector or that shit that says you can't separate the book from him or whatever. I just feel like in all the whole history books are just lying to us and they themselves don't want us to find the truth so they put some damn ugly smelly protector", Hannah added .

"That's most likely true well basically true no it's clicking together but either way we need to get the key from him", said Mari.

"Yeah... I don't think he will be happy to give us, he doesn't look pleased at the moment", said Liv looking at the big pale hairy monster, with sharp fangs and claws and deep red eyes.

"That's no werewolf, his strength is whole another level", Cleo concluded using her powers to size him up.

"Probably a werewolf turned zombie and if my theory is correct this is going to be a hard fight", said Mari

"Thanks for the encouragement", said Hannah

"Sooo...this definitely a good time to run then", asked Liv

"Yep....run!!", yelled Hannah. They started to run back down to the gate which was a great three miles from were they where

"But he has the key", yelled Cleo

"We will figure out another way", yelled Mari but then was cut off by the beast jumping in front of them with a loud thud. The impact knocked them backwards to the ground, coughing from the dust created they looked up and saw the beast looming over them.

"Well I guess we just have to take the key then", said Mari

"Please don't tell me your suggesting we fight this giant of a monster Mari", asked Liv with pleading eyes.

"Yes we are Liv, there is no other choice", yelled Hannah

"Oh gawd my nightmares are coming to reality", whispered Liv.

"You have nightma...",said Cleo but was cut off from the monster flinging her away, her back was slammed against a nearby gravestone knocking the air out of her and giving a dent to the stone.

"That's really not nice of you, you know", wheezed Cleo catching her breath but the monster just growled at her "am so sorry Pierson Clinton", Cleo said to the headstone she had now damaged.

"Ok guys new plan, get the key and stay alive", said Mari.

"That's not a plan", said Hannah.

"Sorry but I can't think of any plans right now", said Mari then shifted to her brown wolf and charged towards the monster. She bit down hard on his right hind limb, the monster howled in pain then flinged her off him.

"I guess we will just go in blindly", Hannah said. Summoning two swords she threw one to Liv who looked at her skeptically.

"I don't know how to use this"

"Oh stop being a baby and grow up"

"Am not a baby...", Liv trailed off from the look Hannah was giving her.

"If you want to stay alive then do best to use it", she said and ran to the beast.

" Ok Liv, you can do this ....your strong, beautiful and smart", Liv chanted to herself, yelling a war cry she ran towards the beast and started attacking the beast along side Hannah and Mari who has gotten back on her feet. Cleo changed into her ash wolf and joined the fight.

~~~~~~~~~~~
"We're not making any progress", said Mari gasping for breadth.
"Oh I didn't notice", Hannah said sarcastically out of breath.
"At this rate were going to be dead meat", said Cleo clutching her side that was bleeding from the beast scratch. She should be healing by now but she had sustained a lot of injuries that she was now healing slowly. All of them were injured badly except Liv of course, there breaths were ragged and they were limping slightly.
Hiding behind a giant headstone they all tried to catch their breadth and be quiet. The monster was still pumping with adrenaline and destroying everything that was in his path looking for them, which was the headstones.
"What now", asked Hannah
"You said his a zombie that's why his stronger than average", asked Liv gaining everyone's attention.
"Yeah I did", Mari said
"Then how do you destroy a zombie", Liv asked
"By ripping their heart off....Liv your a genius", said Hannah shaking her by the shoulder.
"Well I actually didn't know how to....never mind", sighed Liv who was being crushed by Hannah with a hug.
"How do we get close to that thing, it's so huge", asked Cleo.
"I have a plan", said Mari
"I hope is an actual plan and not 'get the key and stay alive' kind of plan", mimicked Hannah.
"Yes it is", said Mari rolling her eyes "I will need Liv as a distraction"
"What no no no and no", Liv whispered yelled
"What do you mean no your basically a distraction", Hannah said
"I will take that as a compliment", Liv said glaring at Hannah "I can't be a distraction, I can barely stand in front of it"
"Liv what your going to do is simple, that's if you can run fast...your going to be our bait, right now his looking for us so you will go out there get his attention and immediately you do you start running, he will follow you obviously and since his big he will get exhausted eventually, just try not to get crushed"
"You and Cleo can basically run faster than me", Liv said
"True but right now we're badly injured and healing slowly while you barely have a scratch on, no offense "
"I did my best ok", Liv pouted
"Yeah by hiding", Hannah said
"Plus your small so you will be able to out run him", said Mari "are you in"
"Yeah fine... But what will you guys be doing"
"We won't be doing anything until his exhausted unless your in need of help and before then we will be healing"
"And then what", asked Cleo
"We go at him at once....all in all we have forty five percent chance of winning"
"That's the plan", asked Hannah
"I can't think of any better one right now", Mari said with shrug
"Fine we will go with it...Liv are you ready", asked Hannah
"I guess", Liv said looking at the monster from behind the headstone then gulping "ok I got this", she said then ran to the open.
"Hey big fella", Liv yelled waving her hands in the air "look who's right here, a little girl who is alone and defenseless", she said giving a dramatic sigh, the monster turned and spotted her, grunting, he began to pursue her.
"Well that got the monster's attention", Hannah whispered to the rest .
"Oh boy he so fast", yelled Liv who was running for her dear life, she began to run in circles with the monster right on her tail
"I don't think Liv can hold him much longer", said Cleo
"Wait just for a few minutes his getting exhausted already", said Mari watching from behind the headstone
Liv kept running in circles and her breath became laboured "oh my gawd I can't keep this up any longer", she whispered "wait.....am not hearing footsteps behind me anymore", she said to herself then turned and saw the monster staggering back and trying to compose himself, he kept growling at her and gnashing his teeth.
"Now is our chance, his weak", said Mari and immediately they sprang up and ran towards him attacking him at all sides
"Yeah go team..I will be there in a sec I just need to you know...", Liv said then fell face flat to the ground.
The monster tried to throw them away but didn't have any luck at it, his head was spinning from the chase making his eyes and movement to be disoriented. Hannah used her sword and stabbed him at the knee causing his leg to buckle, then cutting one of his arms off, while Cleo jabbed her teeth on the his right foot biting it off entirely, the monster was on his knees now, he tried to fling them but couldn't. Mari bit down on his ribs and tore out a huge chunk of flesh making the monster to cry out in pain, spiting the flesh out she then use her claws to dig into his skin holding him down, Mari yelled "now will be a good time Liv"
"Huh...what", Liv asked lifting her head up and seeing the scene before her "oh right", she said and jumped to her feet, finding her sword she jumped on top the monster who was now flat on the ground and stabbed him at the heart.
"You need to remove his heart entirely", yelled Hannah who was holding down the beast by the other leg.
"I wish I could but something is happening to said heart", Liv said and immediately light sparked from the wound she has created in the chest, it kept growing bigger with the hole expanding, it started to create cracks around the body
"Guys I think his about to explode", yelled Liv jumping down from the giant, the rest of the girls ran and hid behind a headstone.
"You said his about to explode", said Hannah breathing heavily
"Well that's what it looked like ok", yelled Liv
"Liv's right, his about to...
Cleo was cut off by a loud wail from the monster exploding into pieces, with it's parts flying everywhere, the head landing right in front of them causing them to all scream.
"Oh my gawd, get that thing away from me", Liv yelled crawling away backwards.
Mari gasped "the key", she said and ran to were the beast was last standing she looked round and then finally she spotted the key hanging on a nearby headstone
"Guys we did it", Mari yelled holding up the key. They all cheered and began to do a happy dance.
"Ah finally... now can we leave this place", asked Cleo
"Yep"
"Sure"
"Definitely"
They left the grave yard and went back to the front of the library.
"Is 4:12 in the morning, we have school in three hours and forty eight minutes.. what now", said Mari
"I guess we will open this book after school then", said Hannah
"We're having a sleepover tonight I don't think after school will be enough time for that", said Cleo
"Why not tomorrow then, were really tired as it is", said Liv
"Yeah your right, tomorrow it is then", said Hannah "keep the book with you, your the much responsible one" shoving it to Mari.
"Uh thank you", Mari said collecting the book "I guess I will see you guys in school later then", she said and waved good bye.
"Bye", they said in unison and went their separate ways to their respective homes.
