Chapter 52 - Miko Yotsuya Can See

Terrifying—absolutely terrifying!

The girl sat on the toilet, her heart unable to calm down. No matter how composed she appeared, it was all an act. Despite having encountered numerous monsters, she still couldn't get used to their terrifying presence.

Their soul-chilling aura was overwhelming.

The pressure was immense.

Her name was Miko Yotsuya, an ordinary high school girl who felt unremarkable at school. Though she occasionally received love letters, she rejected them all.

She'd thought her peaceful life would continue as is, but one day, while waiting at a bus stop after school, Miko saw a grotesque monster radiating a fearsome aura.

Only she could see these spectral creatures—others seemed oblivious. Miko had no idea what had happened to her, but since then, these monsters never left her life.

Whether eating, at school, or at home, their figures lingered, hovering around her. Every time her eyes met theirs, they'd rush over, asking, "Can you see me?"

Miko didn't dare respond. She felt that admitting she could see them would lead to something horrific.

But even ignoring them, pretending they were invisible, didn't make them vanish. And those terrifying monsters? No matter how many times she encountered them, she couldn't get used to them.

Each time, her heart pounded wildly.

So scary…

"But that monster just now seemed different," Miko mused, pulling up her skirt, thinking carefully. "It didn't have that dark, malevolent aura."

Still, it was terrifying.

As she pondered, her face froze. Her peripheral vision caught a shadow above the bathroom door. Her body tensed, muscles tightening, scalp tingling.

It didn't leave!

It's still here!

Being watched while using the bathroom… Of course, that wasn't her main concern—she was more worried about her safety. What did it want? Would it attack?

Did it realize I can see it?

No! She couldn't let it know! Miko forced herself to stay calm, avoiding looking at the shadow, only sensing its position with her peripheral vision.

Tears welled up as she struggled to stay composed, her urination faltering under the stress, feeling like it took forever.

Muxiao did nothing, just perched above the door, looking down at the girl on the toilet, boldly observing. Hmm, watching a cute girl use the bathroom… am I a pervert?

Ugh.

But it was fine—he often watched Natsumi openly at home. Bored, Muxiao rested his head on a tentacle, eyeing the beautiful, embarrassed black-haired girl below.

"Since you're pretending not to see me, don't blame me for taking advantage… heh heh."

Miko Yotsuya—Muxiao remembered her backstory and understood why she acted blind to him. But while watching her, he grew curious.

Based on Miko's experiences, this world should be full of evil spirits. Why hadn't he seen any since arriving? Normal people couldn't see them, but he wasn't normal, right?

Even if he couldn't see them, his super intuition should alert him. Muxiao was puzzled. If he could see those spirits, wouldn't that be another way to farm evolution points?

Then Tomie wouldn't have to be anemic anymore.

Hmm… too much blood loss isn't great for her health.

"Phew—"

Miko finally finished, struggling to keep her expression neutral, maintaining a stoic facade. She pulled up her skirt, a flash of pale skin making Muxiao's eyes widen.

Worthy of a heroine—so charming. Though, Natsumi wasn't a heroine, yet her allure matched Reina's and Miko's.

The quality of beauties here is unreal.

"Maybe she's really an adult game heroine?"

Tch, tch.

Miko exited the stall, turning on the faucet to wash her hands, forcing her gaze away from the mirror where the monster stood behind her.

Can't see, can't see.

Muxiao, in a playful mood, extended a tentacle, letting it hover around her.

Amazed at the unflinching black-haired girl, he thought, This chick's mental fortitude is insane. Or maybe she was inwardly terrified, just hiding it well.

He was right—Miko was on the verge of tears. Thankfully, the monster retracted its tentacles, letting her breathe a sigh of relief.

Muxiao just didn't want her to realize he was a physical monster.

Yes, Miko still thought he was one of the spectral entities only she could see, not a tangible creature visible to everyone!

Honestly, if Muxiao had no morals and flashed something inappropriate, no amount of composure would save Miko.

She'd probably scream in horror.

That'd be hilarious to see… Nah, too sleazy.

Miko left the bathroom, her tension easing only when the monster was out of sight, tears glinting in her eyes.

It was outdoor PE class. The black-haired, golden-eyed beauty stepped out of the building, heading to the field. As sunlight warmed her, a shadow dropped from above, landing on a nearby tree.

!!!

What?! It followed me?!

Her eyes wavered, but she kept walking, mentally chanting, It's fine, it'll lose interest and leave soon. Stay calm, stay calm.

She couldn't let it know.

"Yotsuya-san? Yotsuya-san?"

Lost in thought, Miko didn't hear someone calling her. It took a moment to snap out of it. "Ah! Sorry, sorry, I was distracted…"

A beautiful, long-haired girl stood before her—a transfer student from a few days ago… Wakumaku, right?

"You seem out of it, Yotsuya-san. Feeling unwell?" Wakumaku's gaze sharpened. "Or did you encounter something scary? Like… a monster?"

"Monster? What are you talking about, Wakumaku-san? There's no such thing," Miko laughed. "I just went to the bathroom."

She'd never admit it. Never.

But after the transfer student appeared, the monster vanished. It must've left.
