Chapter 14: The No-Guaranteed Gacha System is Trash, wouldn't you say, FGO?

Due to Kaiba's repeated demands, Solomon reluctantly began to tell everyone the stories behind the Cards and the emotions he invested in them, attempting to persuade Kaiba with the theory of the Heart (of the Cards).

Unsure when he had moved back to the rear, Chumley started to zone out. Instead of carefully listening to Grandpa Sugoroku, he controlled the System Panel to appear before his eyes.

The moment the Sai Q Duelist System's Display Screen appeared, Chumley saw several lines of text in the center of the Screen:

After completing his Duel with Yugi, Chumley heard a 'ding-dong' Notification Sound. After a brief thought, Chumley's finger pressed on 'NO'.

The number 1100 began to move the moment Chumley touched it, travelling to the top-left corner of the Screen, where an Avatar Frame appeared. Inside was a close-up of Chumley's face, with a blank Frame below it.

The number '1100' was thus embedded into the blank Frame, staying there motionless. The text displayed in the center of the Screen quickly faded, and instead, four Cards appeared.

The Card designs were identical to the Monster Cards used in Duel Monsters, except the central illustration was replaced by text. From left to right, they were [Achievement], [Quest], [Shop], and [Inventory].

Thanks to the games he had played in his previous life, Chumley understood the functions of these Modules without needing System guidance. First, he clicked into the 'Achievement' Module, whose border was illuminated.

Upon entering the [Achievement] Module, countless Yu-Gi-Oh Cards filled the entire Screen. Each Card was presented with a swirling pattern on its back, and their overall color was somewhat dim.

Only three Cards were exceptions; their Card edges had a faint golden glow, and even the swirling patterns on their backs were much more vibrant than the other Cards. Chumley didn't bother looking at them one by one, flipping all three Cards over in a single breath.

With a large block of text suddenly flooding his vision, Chumley studied it carefully and deduced the basic Setting of this [Achievement] Module.

First, the 'Achievements' within the [Achievement] Module remain in a Hidden State until completed, at which point their conditions are revealed — this means the existence of [Achievement]s is merely a bonus, achievable only by chance. However, since there's an Achievement for 'Dueling with Yugi', there's a high probability there are also Achievements for 'Dueling with other Legendary Duelists'.

Second, after completing each Achievement, a fixed 500 DP will be awarded, which is half the Reward for losing a Duel. Since Chumley wasn't entirely clear what DP was used for, he didn't pay much attention to this. However, the main reason lay in the third point of the [Achievement] System.

Third, after completing an 'Achievement', different Special Rewards will be granted depending on the Achievement — for example, the [Blue-Eyes] Achievement gave a Reward called Rare Card Pack (Dragon-Type), while the [Yugi] Achievement gave a Super Rare Card Pack.

After confirming there were no other 'Achievements' that could grant Rewards, Chumley immediately exited the [Achievement] Module, skipping the two in between and proceeding directly to the [Inventory].

The [Inventory], as the name suggests, is where things are stored. Chumley tried placing his Deck into the [Inventory] and succeeded. But when he tried to put the satchel on his back inside, he couldn't manage it.

It seemed this [Inventory] could only store items related to the Sai Q Duelist System.

Chumley's gaze fell on the three Items in the [Inventory] besides the Deck he had just placed inside. However, he was only there to check and had no intention of opening Card Packs or making a Card Selection right now.

After all, he had just spent money to buy several Physical Card Packs to test his luck. The result was that his Transmigration hadn't changed his destiny; his luck was no different from his previous life, neither lucky nor unlucky. Opening packs could wait until he got home and took a shower tonight.

Exiting the [Inventory], Chumley then entered the [Shop] Module. The moment he entered, Chumley saw the largest Card Box placed before him.

There were no patterns on the Card Box, only the Chinese characters for 'Basic Card Pack' written on it. Inside, about 30 Card Packs were neatly arranged, with '100 DP / 1 Pack' written on the foremost one.

Well, so it's still the Gacha Mobile Game trope. Chumley was a bit speechless. Looking at the [Shop]'s setup, it was clearly the classic Core System of a Gacha Mobile Game — the Duel Monsters version of a Draw System. The only difference between the two was that in Mobile Games, you could Top-up with money, while Chumley could only Grind diligently to earn more DP.

Next to the Card Box was a text description. Chumley examined it carefully, and the general meaning was that each Card Pack sold in the [Shop] contained five Cards, with Rarity ranging from N-Rank to UR. However, each pack guaranteed at least one Rare or higher Card. And each Card Box guaranteed at least one SR Card.

Additionally, the [Shop] also featured a Recycle system, which could Recycle redundant Cards, but required them to be at least Rare or higher. Depending on the quantity and quality of the Cards, the [Shop] would provide a certain amount of DP in return.

Furthermore, the [Shop] would periodically release special Limited Card Boxes. Unlike Basic Card Packs, which automatically restocked after being drawn, Limited Card Boxes were a one-time offering and would not be replenished. Within Limited Card Boxes, Limited Cards exclusive to that period would appear, and each box would contain at least 1 UR Card and 3 SR Cards. Correspondingly, the total number of Card Packs in a Limited Card Box also increased to one hundred.

To accommodate Unlucky Players, the [Shop] also had a function to directly purchase Cards with DP, but Chumley only glanced at it before backing out. The Card purchase area had everything imaginable, from "Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju" to "Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon", encompassing all Cards within the scope of what could be played in the current era. There were even three copies of "Blue-Eyes White Dragon", which Kaiba was currently desperate to obtain, and players could even freely choose various Alternate Art Versions.

So what was the Cost?

One word: Expensive!

Chumley glanced at it. Good heavens, the lowest Rarity sold in the Shop was Rare, but even the cheapest Rare Card cost a whopping 100 DP. Chumley felt that if he were to buy Cards, he might as well just open Card Packs directly; even with terrible luck, he should get something better than buying a single Card, especially since Card Packs also came with four N-Rank Cards.

Exiting the most feature-rich and complete [Shop], Chumley arrived at the final [Quest] area.
