Chapter 81 - Chapter 81: Desert Reaper

[Seventh Month]

You wandered along the border between the Land of Wind and the Land of Earth, restoring your injuries through the slaughter of villages. It was the only way to calm the fury of losing your arm.

Though you still hadn't broken through the bottleneck between the Three-Tomoe Sharingan and the Mangekyō, your mastery over the unnamed ocular jutsu that manipulates blood had grown steadily.

[Eighth Month]

Aside from your severed arm, the rest of your wounds had fully healed. In fact, by continually absorbing the blood of others, your physical condition was gradually improving. Still, your missing arm remained a thorn in your heart.

You used passing merchants as live targets to hone your "Wind-Fire Shuriken," a composite ninjutsu with cutting power far beyond any Wind Release technique.

Your control over the Three-Tomoe Sharingan had become nearly perfect. By observing the chakra flow within the Wind-Fire Shuriken, you theorized that incorporating Lightning Release could further boost its power.

Unfortunately, you had no Lightning affinity. All you could do was slightly modify the chakra flow within it, making the technique easier to launch.

[Ninth Month]

Your activities drew the attention of both Wind and Earth—two major nations—who dispatched teams led by jōnin to track you down and, if necessary, kill you.

You were unfazed. The fire of vengeance still burned within you, and those sent to kill you were merely practice dummies for your evolving ninjutsu.

To further refine your techniques, you began training with the Rasengan. Thanks to your Sharingan, you understood chakra flow with crystal clarity and quickly mastered its use.

Though the Rasengan was powerful, it didn't suit you. It couldn't be thrown, and it consumed far too much chakra—leaving you feeling constantly drained. You didn't know Sage Mode, nor could you afford to waste chakra on multiple shadow clones. You had no means of improving the Rasengan further.

However, through training with the Rasengan, you gained a better grasp of chakra shape transformation, giving you a clear new direction for improving your Wind-Fire Shuriken: creating a handseal-free ninjutsu.

[Tenth Month]

With your Three-Tomoe Sharingan, chakra flow had become second nature. Your Wind Release grew stronger.

You successfully upgraded the Wind-Fire Shuriken into a seal-less ninjutsu—one that consumed only a single shuriken per use.

Sunagakure launched a full-scale hunt for you. In response, you wiped out five jōnin squads and countless chūnin teams, forcing Sunagakure to retreat in defeat.

Though they considered sending out veterans like Chiyo or using a Jinchūriki to take you down, the risk of you killing them instead made it not worth the gamble.

Sending the Fourth Kazekage would have been a safe move, but deploying a Kage-level shinobi would have exposed how thinly stretched their forces really were. In the end, Sunagakure had no choice but to withdraw.

During these battles, you realized that while the Wind-Fire Shuriken was a ranged, seal-less ninjutsu, the time required to form it was still too long. It was easy for opponents to see it coming—unlike the instantly-formed Rasengan. So, you decided to further refine it.

[Eleventh Month]

After razing several border villages in the Land of Wind and slaughtering scores of puppet masters and Sunagakure shinobi, your hatred for the Sand Village finally began to ease. You set your sights on the Land of Earth.

Using the puppets left behind by your fallen victims, you disguised yourself as a Sunagakure shinobi and carried out mass killings at Earth Country border watchtowers and villages.

After prolonged blood absorption, you discovered a noticeable enhancement in your physical capabilities. Your chakra reserves were no longer running low.

Your presence forced Iwagakure to hold urgent strategy meetings.

However, thanks to Sunagakure's misleading intel—shared out of "goodwill"—Iwagakure's higher-ups underestimated you. They believed your strength wasn't significant, only that you were good at hiding.

So, they sent a team of jōnin to hunt you down, using the mission as a training opportunity for young shinobi—a way to address the lack of real combat experience among their newer ranks.

From the first encounter, you saw through their intentions. You faked a retreat, lured a large number of Iwa shinobi into unfavorable terrain, and then unleashed a barrage of Wind-Fire Shuriken—causing massive casualties.

Some managed to escape using Earth Release, but they left behind plenty of corpses for you to absorb and loot, as well as several leftover jutsu.

Among them was the "Ultra-Heavy Rock Technique" and many other Earth Release ninjutsu. After absorbing their blood, your Endurance and Strength received a major boost.

With that, your weaknesses in defense and close-quarters combat were largely covered.

[Twelfth Month]

Iwagakure took you very seriously now. Together with Sunagakure, they negotiated the terms for who would gain access to your intel once you were killed.

Once the agreement was reached, the two villages spearheaded a call to arms—organizing a coalition of small nations and hidden villages caught between them—to hunt you down.

Among the shinobi from these smaller nations were elites capable of rivaling jōnin. After sacrificing nearly a thousand ninjas, they finally managed to gravely injure you.

Seeing the situation turn grim, you absorbed the blood around you, extracted the last bit of chakra, and escaped using Earth Release…

That battle shocked both Wind and Earth. You became known among nearby nations as the "Desert Reaper," and your bounty skyrocketed—on par with that of a Kage-level shinobi.

[Second Year]

The coalition lost your trail. They split up to search for you, only to fall into your ambushes, forcing them to retreat and disband.

You used the blood of ambushed shinobi to recover from your wounds. But you sensed it—both major nations were preparing to re-enter the fray. This time, you suspected they'd deploy multiple Kage-level fighters.

You chose to leave the area and return to Konoha—to continue leeching off Root's sealing techniques and Wind Release jutsu.

Sure enough, the moment you left, Kage-level figures from both nations mobilized in secret—only to find an empty battlefield.

...

On your way back to Konoha, you were intercepted by Kakuzu and a stranger wearing the Akatsuki's signature black cloak with red clouds.

The unfamiliar man said they were here to invite you to join the Akatsuki.

But Kakuzu attacked the moment the words left his mouth:

Wind Release: Pressure Damage!

Fire Release!

A massive compound jutsu surged toward you. Out of curiosity—since it was a Wind-Fire combo—you activated your Sharingan for a quick look and found that you could copy it.

So you did, but it could only be used with help from a shadow clone—or a guy with multiple heads.

During the fight, you severely wounded the unknown Akatsuki member. At the same time, you blew up one of Kakuzu's hearts—but also found yourself in a dire situation.

Just when you were preparing to make a final stand, Kakuzu suddenly turned and finished off his dying teammate.

You took the opportunity to escape, returning at long last to Konoha. You handed over a sack containing the heads of Baki, high-ranking officials from the Land of Wind, and a pile of jōnin as your report to Root.
