Spirit City – The Courtyard Behind the Inn
Qian Renxue stood beside the hot spring pool, fingertips still clutching the end of her hairband. Her golden hair had fully tumbled loose, cascading over her shoulders and back like liquid silk, shimmering softly under moonlight and the glow of phoenix lanterns.
She kept her eyes downcast, lashes trembling. Long shadows fell across her cheeks, hiding the storm of shyness and nerves in her eyes.
Slowly, she loosened the sash of her outer robe. Beneath it, snow-white inner garments emerged, the neckline parting slightly to reveal delicate collarbones and a sliver of luminous skin.
Dai Chengfeng didn't approach or urge her on.
Arms crossed, he watched—open admiration and tenderness blazing in his gaze.
Qian Renxue bit her lip, fingers shaking as she shed the outer robe, folding it neatly on the stone ledge.
Then came the buttons of her inner garment—one, two…
Each movement was agonizingly slow, as if unfastening each required all her courage.
Finally, the fabric slipped from her shoulders, revealing moon-white undergarments beneath.
The thin cloth clung transparently in the steam, outlining her slender yet resilient waist…
She hugged herself instinctively, wanting to cover up—but knowing it only made her seem more flustered.
Her ears burned crimson; even her neck flushed pink.
"D-don't… don't stare."
She glared at Dai Chengfeng, voice barely a whisper, trembling with embarrassment.
Dai Chengfeng chuckled lowly—a rough, velvety sound.
"My little Angel Princess… are you shy?"
He stepped closer but kept a deliberate pace away, not touching her. "But do you realize? Right now… you're more…"
"Impossible to look away from."
"You!"
Qian Renxue snapped her eyes up—shame and vulnerability warring in her glare.
She took a steadying breath, hands finally releasing their grip. Slowly, she reached for the final tie.
The last garment pooled at her feet.
Moonlight bathed her body in silver.
Her skin glowed nearly translucent—elegant collarbones, a waist so narrow it seemed graspable in one hand, legs long and straight, ankles heartbreakingly delicate.
She couldn't bear to look down, eyes squeezed shut, hands twisting together until her knuckles whitened.
Dai Chengfeng's breathing hitched audibly.
He stepped forward, stopping before her. Instead of lifting her, he extended a hand—fingertips barely grazing her shoulder.
"So beautiful," he rasped, voice thick with restraint. "Qian Renxue… you're truly… breathtaking."
Her lashes fluttered open, meeting his scorching yet tender gaze.
In that moment, all shame and tension seemed cradled by those eyes.
She gave a faint "Mm," softer than a moth's wing.
No hesitation now. Dai Chengfeng swept her into his arms.
"Ahh!"
Qian Renxue gasped, instinctively clinging to his neck as he held her securely.
His arms were iron-hot; his chest solid. Through thin fabric, she felt his thundering heartbeat.
Step by step, he descended into the pool.
The warm water rose past ankles, calves, waist… submerging them both.
Startled by the heat, Qian Renxue burrowed deeper into his chest.
Dai Chengfeng laughed softly, settling her in the water before joining her.
He leaned against the pool wall, cradling her against his chest.
Steam blurred the world into intimacy.
At first, Qian Renxue sat rigid as wood, arms locked over her chest, breath held tight.
Dai Chengfeng didn't rush. He scooped water, drizzling it over her shoulders—gentle, rhythmic—as if soothing a startled fawn.
"Relax," he murmured against her ear, amusement threading his voice. "It's just us. No titles… only you and me."
Qian Renxue bit her lip. After a long pause, she nodded faintly.
Seeing her ease, Dai Chengfeng grinned wickedly—cupping water and splashing it squarely in her face.
"Ah!"
She jerked, eyes wide with indignation as she whirled on him. "What are you doing?!"
Before she could protest further, he spun her to face him—and dumped another palmful of water right onto her chest.
Water sprayed everywhere, drenching her face and hair.
Furious, she shoved his shoulder—but he caught her wrists, pinning them behind her back.
"Still glaring?"
Dai Chengfeng arched a brow, foxlike triumph in his smile. "Didn't you want to unwind in the spring? Now you complain I'm playing?"
"I never—let go!"
She struggled, but he only pulled her tighter.
They wrestled in the water like children—splashing, laughing.
The more she fought, the more he teased, tickling her waist until she shrieked—half-laughing, half-furious.
"Dai Chengfeng! Are you five years old?!"
"Five?"
He froze, nose brushing hers. "Right now—with your flushed cheeks, bitten lips, and that fierce little glare—you're less 'Angel Clan Heir' and more… a ruffled kitten."
Qian Renxue's ears burned hotter. She raised a hand to swat him—but he captured it, lacing their fingers against the pool wall.
Through the playfulness, her tension finally melted away.
Steam curled around them. Moonlight gilded their damp hair. Breath mingled.
Watching her soften, Dai Chengfeng's heart turned to liquid warmth.
He dipped his head, nuzzling her temple.
"Still nervous?"
Qian Renxue shook her head, water droplets clinging to her lashes like diamonds.
"N-not really…"
"Good."
In one motion, he cradled her nape and kissed her.
The kiss began feather-light—tentative, questioning.
Qian Renxue stiffened—then closed her eyes, hands finding his shoulders, responding clumsily.
Dai Chengfeng's eyes darkened. He deepened the kiss.
A soft whimper escaped her, startlingly clear in the quiet night.
His hand slid down her spine, pausing at her waist to pull her flush against him.
Qian Renxue's mind blanked—drowning in his possessive gentleness, her body trembling beyond control.
When they finally parted, foreheads pressed together, gasping.
Water trailed down Dai Chengfeng's brow, dripping onto her collarbone before vanishing into the pool.
