Chapter 4 - § Silver Lining §

And so we went ahead with our only choice. I would like to say, I had very little faith in this.

Emma sat my mother and old man down when we got home. And the room was partially filled with an eerie silence.

"Emma dear, what is it you wanted to tell us? Is everything okay with little Atticus?" My mother, Heather asked her curiously.

She could see the hesitation on Emma's face.

"Well, Mrs Radars, it's about Atticus. What have to tell you is both good and bad." Emma hesitated again as she looked at me and then my parents.

"Go ahead dear." My mother said.

"Atticus has awakened." Emma stated simply.

"Hahahaha... you have really good imagination. I'm sure he'll awakened a powerful core like his old man. But it's too soon to tell that. Just wait a few years and we'll really talk about his awakening." My father spoke for the first time since he was called here.

Confidence flowed from his words. One could tell he'd even puff up his chest to prove himself.

"I really don't mind if you teach my little Atticus when he awakens. But I too think it's too early. Let's wait until he is ready. Rushing is not a good thing you know?" My mother said with a smile.

"Madam, sir, I meant it. Your son has activated his core. I thought he was just playing with the books in the library. But for the first time today, he activated his core." Emma's words tore right through my parents' joking tone.

Now they paid attention and their gazes moved between Emma and me.

"Emma dear, are you sure about what you're saying? You know what you're saying sound crazy, right? Atticus is only about to be four years you know. There is still about three years left." My mother said seriously.

My old man was still wearing a confident look. But the serious mood on the around the table made serious too. He leaned in and made eye contact with me.

He moved over to my side and held my hand.

"Son, did you really use magic? Don't be scared. Tell father the truth okay?" He said to me.

In response, I nodded twice. The man turned to his wife with an unfathomable expression.

Suddenly with happiness, he stopped me up in his arms held me high. It was like a man regaining lost pride. His gaze towards me was that of pure admiration. Maybe he even compared me to a priceless reward.

"My son... my son is a true genius. This boy will be the pride of us Radars in the future to come. I couldn't be more proud of you." He said as he looked up at me.

"But, how do we know he has awakened. It might have just been luck back then." My mother said, trying to refute the unexplainable.

But just then my body began glowing. While I sat down, I had kept trying to summon my energy via meditation.

And I almost had grasp of it before this old man stopped me up. But now that accumulated power was scattered across my body. All this shaking must have caused me to lose my grip on it.

"Yess..! That's my boy!" My father shouted loudly in happiness. He hugged me in his arms with pure happiness.

His arms wrapped around me so tight I almost choked.

My mother walked over to us and went down on her knees. She looked at me happily with tears of happiness filling in her eyes.

"My son. My little Atticus really did it. I'm so.. proud of you." She said and hugged me tightly.

"I'm sorry to say, but there's still bad news." Emma spoke up.

My parents slowly turned to her. They went back to their seats. My mother had me sitting on her lap.

Not that I'm complaining, but her boob's made me uncomfortable. She's my mother, I known. But I'm still a male. Young maybe, but very mature and alive for my age.

"So, what seems to be the problem?" My father asked attentively.

"Atticus may have awakened. But he can't control his core and energy. Even more so, he can't control how much power his core can have. I'm afraid if something isn't done, his body will be overwhelmed by his sheer energy." Emma paused for a moment.

"The consequences of failing todeal with that may be dire. The best chance is to bring his energy under control. The worst possible outcome could be... his death. Ordinary means won't work too well on him. If they do, they'll be temporary." She explained and pulled the books before her.

"Is there anything you can tell us to help him? Anything at all. I'm sure there must be a way to deal with it." My father spoke up immediately after her.

He wasn't about to let his greatest pride slip from his hands. That too along with the life of his only son.

"Darling, calm down for a minute. I'm sure Emma has already done her research." My mother calmed him down and looked at Emma expectedly.

"There is. One method that will keep him alive. Amd it will also help his training." She pushed the open book before my parents.

The drawing was of the earlier bracelet. And beside it were explanations of its uses amd capabilities.

But mostly, it showed the material and ways to obtain it.

"This bracelet can help Atticus. He just needs it while he's still young and training. I wouldn't advice reliance on it too much. So he should train to control his power while he still has it." Emma explained.

My father stood up and ripped the page off the book. He didn't say a word and just walked to the door.

"Heather, I'll be back. Take care of yourself while I'm out will you?" He said as he opened the door.

"Yes my love. You don't need to tell me anything. Just come back alive and well."

With that response from his wife, my old man didn't hesitate to walk out the door.
