Chapter 13 - Second Time in the Dungeon [3]

-----------------------------------------

[Chapter Size: 2907 Words]

----------------------------------

In a room on the 7th floor, two elves were fighting against a group of three goblins, four kobolds and three frog shooters.

The goblins and the kobolds on the eighth floor may look similar to those on the upper floors, but anyone who makes that mistake will have a one ticket to their death.

Because these monsters which looked like their counterparts from the first floor were nothing alike, instead they were stronger, more cunning.

They would wait for their chances and swarm the adventures in groups and swiftly kill them without giving them any chances to strike back.

The younger male elf was facing off against two goblins, a kobold and a frog shooter.

The elf was wearing a light armor protecting his chest, and shoulder guards.

He had a strained look on his face and was constantly making mistakes or misses here and there, only to get helped and scolded by the older male elf, who had a relaxed look on his face and was able to easily hold the other monsters at bay without killing them.

"Luvis Lilix, this is the second time, keep your eyes on the surroundings also, even when you are fighting against a monster, you must also not forget about the monsters who may spawn or jump at you."

The older elf, Cain, a Level 2 of the Modi Familia had had brought a fairly talented recruit, the younger elf, namely Luvis, a Level 1 with C in stats, to make him to get used to the deeper floors of the dungeon and fighting against a group of enemies or how to react when a group of monsters swarm you.

'Luvis is good, he talent is also good, but he's still very rough round the edges' Cain shook his head and sighed thinking about the past when the younger elf had joined their Familia.

The younger elf had joined their Familia a few months before the Great Feud, but was talented enough to get his stats to C in almost all his attributes except for magic in just a little over eight months, provided the other Familia members had helped him on his dungeon trips. But still, that level of talent was truly good.

'Hah, at least we have a good rookie, he can learn from his mistakes and grow stronger with proper guidance, the next thing is whether to get him to level up or try to get him to increase his stats, that depends on him. It may be rushed, but I hope that he goes for the level up, there are almost next to no high level adventurers in our familia after the face-off against the Evilus during the Great Feud and by leveling up he can get a boost to his strength.' thinking that, Cain, broke away from defending against the frog shooters and kobolds he was keeping at bay and cut down the kobold which was trying to sneak behind Luvis.

*swish*

"GUUU..."

The kobold was only able to let out a little whimper as Cain's sword came down at it.

And just when Cain was about to scold Luvis for not paying attention, he felt the floor vibrate, at first faintly. This started ringing alarm bells in his mind, his intuition screaming the word danger at him.

Quickly using his sword, which now was coated with a layer of fire from his skill- a quick few slashes was all it took to kill all the monsters near him, even the ones Luvis was fighting against.

Before Luvis could even ask what was going on, Cain, feeling the tremors grow stronger, had completely panicked look on his face, made a shushing gesture at Luvis and dragged the confused elf into the entrance nearby and quickly covered the distance of tens of meters, hiding behind a part of the dungeon wall which provided them perfect cover.

Just as Luvis was about to ask Cain something, Cain held his hand against Luvis' mouth and gestured him to peek at the room they were in vaguely visible.

A few seconds passed by with nothing happening, then Luvis saw a lone human boy running almost at an unnatural speed, run across the room and take the other entrance disappearing in the blink of an eye.

As Luvis continued looking into the empty room where the boy had just passed, he saw a few killer ants pour in through the entrance and head in the direction of the human boy.

At first, Luvis could still keep his calm, looking at the killer ants swarming from the entrance, but as more time passed by and the number of ants showed no sign of ending, the calm look on his face turned grim, then to a look of horror.

Just imagining that if he had not escaped from there in time or if for some reason, Cain was not with him on this trip, the resulting scenarios made the elf feel like he was doused in a bucket of ice chilled water, refreshing him once again about the horrors of the dungeon.

It was only after a few minutes after the more than 200 ants had left was he able to let out the breath he was holding.

Luvis turned to look towards the older elf, who was also having a pale face similar to his own, maybe thanking himself for his quick actions.

Cain felt Luvis looking at him and spoke out his thoughts, "I was just thinking about that human boy, whether he will survive or not and what would I be able to do if I was being chased by such a huge group of Killer Ants. Anyway let's quickly escape from here, and remember this is what the true nature of the dungeon is like, it will not adapt to you, you have to adapt to the dungeon.

Luvis upon hearing Cain's words wanted to ask if they could do anything to help the boy they had just seen, but before he could even speak his thoughts, Cain cut him off.

"Don't even think about that, I can see your thoughts just by seeing your face, only a veteran Level 2 or even a Level 3 adventurer can fight against such a big swarm, even though the killer ants are nothing much to even someone like you individually, but once in a group, you get ganged up from everywhere and to save the boy while fighting against the swarm, even I can't do it. It may be a different case if I had an area attack at least but I don't have suck a skill or magic, except for my fire application skill. Let's just leave from here."

Cain finished his words and turned around walking away, 'After all, I can't sacrifice my life for the boy and try to save him, our Modi Familia is already under heavy debts and being the only Level 2 currently in the Familia, I can't act on my own, at least until the debts are paid off and you kids grow up. Sorry to break your fantasy Luvis, but this is life, it just does not go the way you want.'

As the two elves walked away in the opposite direction, about the boy the killer ant swarm was chasing.

Light POV

I was first hand experiencing the horrors of the dungeon, being chased by a group of more than 200 killer ants.

A few dozen minutes before, having just gotten to the seventh floor, I had gotten a new random quest asking to kill a 100 monsters in 10 minutes.

Random Quest: Kill 100 monsters in 10 minutes

--------------------------

Thinking about how to kill 100 monsters in ten minutes, the first idea that came to mind was making use of the killer ants on this floor, or rather trying to make the killer ants summon it's companions.

This was some information which I had gotten from the books which I had gone through at the guild, Killer ants when sensing danger try to attract their companions by releasing pheromones.

Thinking that it was a good plan, I came across the first group of monsters on the seventh floor, three goblins and kobolds and as my luck would have it a lone Killer Ant.

Easily killing the goblins and the kobolds, I played with the Killer Ant to allow it to attract it's companions.

Twenty more killer ants soon swarmed the room from the two hallways. Using the accel skill to defeat them, it was not much difficult.

Once again I left the last Killer Ant, so that it can attract more of them.

Everything was going well, extremely well I might say, as I was successful in summoning two more swarms of 20 monsters.

But as they say, third time's the charm, leaving the Killer Ant for the third time was a complete disaster.

As I was waiting for more Killer ants to swarm in, for the first few dozen seconds nothing happened, then came the slight vibration, I was not sure, but still backed out of the room feeling something wrong.

*crack* *crack* *crack* x n

Thank goodness I did that, because the next moment, it was like the dungeon almost had a tracker on me, the walls on the room I was in broke apart, top, bottom, left, right, Killer Ants poured in from those cracks, more swarming in from the hallways.

The small smile I had on my face at first soon became a bit strained, and then turned into a frown.

In the next second, the killer ants all looked at me, that left me with only one thought in my mind 'Run, run run run.'

After all, the scene in front of me was like in from a horror movie, the ants were still coming out from the cracks, swarming in from the hallways, they were almost jam-packed and one on top of another and in such a state if all of them turned to look a person, no matter how much a persons mental strength is, their first thought will be to run.

It's almost like an instinct, preserve your life.

I was the same, as a normal mortal, as the first thing that came to my mind, I turned around and ran.

But after running for a few minutes and feeling calmed down now, I paused for a minute, they are just a group of ants, I have a system, a Level 40 and Level 70 power-up card as trump cards, why the f''' am I running from monsters on just the 7th floor!!!

Immediately looking at the map and trying to find a bigger room, I found a huge room and headed towards it, but there were two blue dots on the path, meaning adventurers in the path towards the room, making me turn around and search for another bigger room.

I found an even bigger room a few seconds later, rushing into it, moved towards the opposite wall and took out my spare sword from my inventory and added all my hard earned stat points into constitution bringing the stat points once again to zero.

I took a few deep breaths, held both my my swords in a tight grip, thinking of or trying to come up with new skills while waiting for the Killer Ants to come over.

I gripped my sword, waiting for the monsters to enter through the lone entrance to the huge room.

*Kieeeee...!!!!* *KIEEEE* x n

I could hear the sounds from the killer ants, before they even entered appeared in the corridor outside the room.

Hearing the sounds, I crossed both swords in front of me, a tensed look on my face.

A single red ant appeared at first, but quickly following the first one the rest of the Killer Ants swarmed in through the entrance.

I was still in the crossed swords stance, waiting for the monsters to come as near me as possible or fill up this room.

I wanted to try out a skill which I had just thought of.

With the first killer ant just a meter away from me, I could see it raising it's one hand to stab at me.

"Come at me you bastards!!!"

In the next moment, giving myself a boost by shouting out loud. I took a step forward with my right leg and floated just a little off the ground using my magic and activated the accel skill with full speed.

Knowing I still could not control the speed of the skill as per my wish, I activated it just for a moment.

"Kiiii..."

But even that was enough, as I rushed through the mass of Killer Ants, the one nearest to me was not even able to complete it's cry before being cut down by my swords.

Using my spatial sense at maximum, the next ant was the same, before it could even react to me, I cut it vertically, tearing through its hard shell without any resistance, even cutting through the magic stone in it's body.

Next was a Killer Ant on my left, it was about to move in, it too was swiftly cut down by me.

Feeling a sense of exhilaration, the next few monsters were the same, a monster to my left, bisected in half, a monster to my right, a stab in its head, a monster in front of me, sliced it up, all the Killer Ants the same fate.

Either get cut down or have their magic stones broken and turn to ash.

Cutting a path through all the Killer Ants was easy, their hard shell offering no resistance against my sword made from the world tree's branch.

'It's really true that these Killer Ants are harder to deal with when they are in groups, but if someone are like me, having a skill similar to my accel, I think they can easily defeat them' I had a small moment of self realization.

Reaching the other end of the room in an instant, I skid my boots against the ground to stop the leftover momentum from the accel skill.

Half turning towards my left, I once again burst out in another dash using accel, with my swords cutting down all the Killer Ants in my path.

Reaching the wall once again, the monsters in my path were all cut down.

I had successfully cut down nearly 70 something monsters in only three successive dashes.

"Haa, haa"

I let out puffed breaths, I was also injured, with more than a few cuts on my hands and legs.

Attacking those monsters at higher speed without complete control led to that as a part of my concentration was also required to make sure that I did not slam head first into the walls.

A easy and nice way of becoming monster feed. No thanks.

...

From between the group of Killer Ants, a steak of light was moving from one corner of the room to another without any order or a fixed path.

[ A/N: MC's skill is almost like Keqing's* Ultimate Skill, but even more faster, sharper and only moving on the ground instead of her flying all over the place. ]

The white light was cutting down all the Killer Ants which came in its path without even giving them any chance to counter or escape.

A few moments later, the white light slowed down, transforming to a boy with yellow hair and red eyes.

The boy had a wild look on his face, with the two swords in his hand dripping blood.

The Killer Ants swarm, now reduced to a pitiful fifteen in number from the initial two hundred something, were staring wearily at the human boy not trying to fight him.

Seeing him still looking at them and feeling the blood-thirsty aura surrounding him, the fifteen odd Killer Ants turned and escaped from the entrance behind them.

"Fuuu" letting out a sigh, Light slid to the ground, sitting on it without caring about the blood or the monster parts below.

"I was lucky, that my new move worked out, but I forgot that the Float Magic consumes my magic, I was really about to capsize over, luckily I think I levelled up in between there and even then I'm left with only 5 MP, so scary. I'm not sure if I'll be affected by Mind Down or not."

"Also, I should have also completed the random quest, now to check the rewards after all that fighting."

After a few minutes of rest, Light remembered about his quest and the feeling of Levelling up in the middle of the fight and wanted to check his status.

'System' thinking in his mind, the next moment a Red Screen with white text popped up in front of him.
