Chapter 54 - Chapter 53

The young soldier replied, "Okay."

Then he stepped forward and spoke to the military wife in the car, "Ma'am, please wait a moment. There's something we need to take care of."

After saying that, he left. Soon, Rowan arrived at the entrance. He looked like he had run the whole way, still breathing heavily.

"Mom, Liwen, why didn't you tell me ahead of time? I could have come to pick you up."

"What's the point of telling you? We got here before the letter even arrived."

"You could have sent me a telegram."

Cuilan glanced at him, "Do telegrams not cost money? You still have money to send telegrams?"

Rowan could tell his mom was in a bad mood. He didn't understand who had upset her.

He quickly looked at his older brother. Liwen shrugged, showing he couldn't help.

Seeing Liwen's reaction, Rowan knew he wouldn't get any answers. So he said, "Mom, let's go home and rest. It's been a tiring trip."

He stepped forward, trying to carry the bags, but Cuilan stopped him.

"Stand to the side. We're not leaving yet. There's something we need to handle."

"Oh, okay."

Rowan quickly moved to stand next to Liwen and quietly asked, "Liwen, what's up with Mom? Is she hitting menopause?"

Liwen gave him a helpless look and stepped aside a little.

"Rowan, what did you just say?!"

"Nothing, Mom. I was just asking Liwen about the trip. I'm just worried about you."

Just as Cuilan's expression grew more dangerous, Commander Lu and Political Commissar Wang arrived.

"Commander, Commissar," everyone stood straight and saluted.

Cuilan leaned toward Rowan and said in a low voice, "You just wait."

The two officers took one look and immediately recognized who Rowan's mother was. They stepped forward.

"Auntie, do you have something you'd like to report?"

Cuilan smiled and said, "Leaders, I just want to ask, are the military wives here not managed at all?"

"And about my daughter-in-law, why was she sent to train with the troops? I heard that the instructor is someone called Instructor Lin. That's Sienna, right?"

Nearby, Danni had a bad feeling when she heard Cuilan's question. She wanted to leave, but there were too many people around. If she moved, it would draw too much attention.

Lu and Wang were a bit confused, but Commissar Wang explained, "Military wives do have a women's director. If there's a problem, she's the one to talk to."

"As for Comrade Sienna, our unit specially invited her to help train the soldiers."

After hearing the explanation, Cuilan said, "I see. So the military wives aren't under your control. But their husbands are, right? Including their thinking and behavior?"

"Auntie, definitely. I'm the political commissar. It's my job to handle those issues. If any of them have problems in thinking or behavior, they fall under my responsibility."

Cuilan looked at Wang Feng with a big smile. "Great, then I've come to the right person."

"Alright, Auntie, go ahead."

"This military wife has a problem with her thinking. I seriously suspect her husband is the same." Cuilan pointed at Danni.

Everyone looked at Danni, curious about what had happened this time.

On the way here, she said my daughter-in-law spends her time with men all day, even taking them to stay in the wilderness overnight for days without coming home. Do you have an explanation for me? What's going on with my daughter-in-law?"

When she said this last sentence, Cuilan's face changed, and she glared at Rowan with anger.

Rowan felt like he was doomed and prayed that his wife would come home quickly. He needed protection; his life was at stake.

But the others thought this was the mother-in-law being upset. After all, the words were harsh, and the implication was too obvious.

Feng quickly explained, "Aunt, that's not true. Don't listen to their nonsense. Sienna is leading a field training, and sometimes Rowan joins her. If you don't believe me, ask him."

Cuilan looked at him and asked, "Since it's a training, how does she know all the details? Why is she making things up in front of me and my husband's family?"

"Then what would she say to others? Does her husband really not know anything? Or is he one of the people involved in making things up?"

"After all, Dani knows everything in detail, and she even said that Sienna didn't take care of the third one when he was injured. What kind of concern is this?"

Everyone understood now. This wasn't about not liking her daughter-in-law; it was about not being happy with others making up stories about her. She wanted justice.

"Leaders, you must give Sienna an explanation. The girl is naive and doesn't understand much, but that doesn't mean she should let others make up stories about her. How is she supposed to live like this?"

When they heard that Sienna was naive, the others didn't know what to say. How could someone so clever be considered naive?

Feng and Leader Lu saw that Cuilan was about to start shouting, so they quickly gave Rowan a look, hoping he would calm her down.

Rowan saw the look, and with a quick glance, he knew he couldn't make things worse. He didn't dare to provoke her.

Feng, seeing Rowan's reaction, cursed under his breath but quickly spoke up, "Aunt, please rest assured. We will give Sienna a proper explanation."

"Oh, fine. So what are you going to do about her?" Cuilan didn't believe just words. She wanted an answer right then and there. Her husband had always been about work, and she wasn't going to let him escape the responsibility.

The group of military wives watched Cuilan's behavior, quietly admiring her fearlessness. She didn't care if her son would be blamed or isolated.

Feng also saw that Cuilan wanted a real solution, so he had his security team bring Dani's husband over.

Soon, the man arrived, followed by Felix, who had come specifically to meet Cuilan.

Leader Lu spoke directly, "Jun, your wife has been spreading rumors about Sienna. What do you have to say about this? And how does she know so many details?"

"Comrade, I haven't done a good job educating my family. I'll make sure my wife apologizes to the person involved."

Feng looked at him and said, "Is that all?"

"I'll strengthen my family education when I get back and ensure she doesn't spread nonsense anymore."

After hearing that, Feng turned to Cuilan and asked, "Aunt, does this sound good? It's just a few harsh words."

Cuilan glanced at Feng and then turned to Leader Lu, who had been silent up until now. "Leader Lu, what do you think of this?"

Leader Lu thought for a moment before answering, "Danni should publicly apologize, and Jun should write a self-reflection. It should be read publicly. Meanwhile, I will report this issue and make sure Sienna gets an explanation."

Cuilan was satisfied. She turned to Feng and said, "This is the proper way to handle it. I know my son just transferred here, and you all are supporting your old subordinates, but don't forget that it was you who invited my daughter-in-law."

"Now that others are spreading rumors, you should have taken a clear stand. Your attitude has shown me why the military wives here feel they can say anything."

"You're a political commissar, but you handled this poorly, especially when the other side was clearly wrong. It's really disappointing."
