Chapter 19 - Chapter 18

Sienna, who was outside, heard what Director Gao said and walked over again. She asked, "Are you sure you want me to be responsible? Give me a clear answer. You won't regret it?"

Director Gao looked at her and said, "Of course. You're a military wife now. The army also needs to give an explanation. If your husband didn't educate you well, he will also be criticized. We can't do anything to you, but we can criticize him."

Sienna smiled. "Alright. Then I'll go outside and post a notice. I'll make this situation blow up across the whole city and county. Once it gets big enough, someone will pay attention. I want to see how barefoot people like us can still fight those with shoes. You police teaming up to bully a military wife, working with kidnappers and human traffickers—let's see if the public's outrage can drown you all."

"I want to see if anyone will help you catch criminals in the future or if anyone will even believe you."

Hearing that, Director Gao stared hard at Sienna. He hadn't said anything yet, and she already started threatening him. But it worked.

He thought if he had seen a girl like this, he would've forced his son to marry her too. No doubt, that boy Rowan's mother really found a treasure. She didn't wait for others to clean up her mess—she took care of it herself.

Wu Wen looked at the situation and said, "Comrade Sienna, go on out. I'm here now. It's alright. He's just trying to scare you. Those few police officers were going to be investigated anyway."

Sienna left, and Director Gao and Wu Wen went back to his office. When they entered and saw the scene, Director Gao felt annoyed again.

"I'll investigate this thoroughly. But if it involves higher-ups, you'll need to put pressure. If it's just within our department, we'll have a result soon."

"Alright, I'll report it."

"Hurry up and take her away. I don't want to see her. She's provoking me."

"Don't be so angry. Think about that boy Rowan. He's your proud subordinate and your lifesaver. Isn't it good he married such a strong woman who won't be bullied?"

"If it weren't for that boy, do you think she could leave here so easily? This is the city bureau, not a small town."

"Got it. I'll head back first."

After speaking, Wu Wen went out. He saw the two of them sitting outside. The child was already asleep.

"Let's go. We're going back."

"Okay." The two followed Wu Wen and got into the car. Meilin sat in the back, holding the child. Sienna sat in the front passenger seat.

"Comrade Sienna, have you thought about joining our unit as a special member? That way, when Rowan goes on missions, you can go with him. We really need someone with your skills."

Hearing she could go on missions with Rowan, Sienna almost agreed right away. But she knew she couldn't do that without his permission. He wouldn't like it.

Seeing she didn't answer, Wu Wen continued, "There's also a salary—51 yuan a month—and various tickets. When you're free, just help train some of our soldiers. They don't have to be as skilled as you, but even half would be great."

"When Rowan goes on missions, you can go with him. Isn't that nice? You won't need to wake up early to train. We don't have strict demands."

After speaking, Wu Wen waited for Sienna's reply. He thought this was the best offer—letting her go on missions with Rowan was a big temptation. He didn't want to say empty words. He felt Sienna didn't care about those anyway. Otherwise, she wouldn't have fought with the police and Laigou.

He couldn't see fear or respect for anything in her. He knew that every time she struck, she was aiming to really hurt. Though she hadn't killed anyone, the way she fought made it clear that she could.

"Let me ask Rowan when he returns from his mission, and I'll discuss it with him before giving a response. Is that okay?"

"Sure, no problem."

"Thank you for coming to save us today."

"There's no need to thank me. As the political commissar, this is my responsibility. Also, since Rowan and the others are still on a mission, we have a duty to protect their wives and not let them be harmed."

The next day, Teacher Yuxia came to see Sienna. Seeing that she was okay, Teacher Yuxia went to check on Meilin as well. After confirming that both were fine, Teacher Yuxia was very happy.

For the next few days, Sienna ate with Meilin. One day, Teacher Yuxia came back looking very upset.

"What's wrong?"

Hearing Meilin's question, Teacher Yuxia looked at both of them and decided to tell them the truth. After all, they had the right to know the situation. Since they hadn't gone out, they weren't aware of the rumors.

"I have to tell you both, you need to stay calm."

They both looked at her. Teacher Yuxia continued, "Now, there are rumors outside saying that you two were kidnapped and that you're not clean anymore, that you may have been assaulted by men. They're also saying that Sienna and Meilin might be pregnant with an illegitimate child."

Meilin got very angry when she heard the rumors, but still asked, "What else did they say?"

She felt helpless, as the more she explained, the more confusing it became. She just hoped that Brandon would believe her and not be influenced by these rumors.

Sienna wasn't curious about the rumors anymore. Instead, she directly asked, "Who said that? Tell me."

"Most of the wives in the family compound are spreading it. I don't know who started it, but it seems to have reached the army. Many soldiers have heard about it. The worst version of the story is that you two have been... discarded."

"Alright, I understand."

After saying that, Sienna walked out immediately. She began searching house by house, kicking down doors. The house next door belonged to the battalion leader of the second regiment, and it was lunchtime. The men were all home. Seeing Sienna kicking down the door, they were all very angry.

"Who are you? What are you doing? You're damaging public property!"

Sienna didn't waste time talking to them. She started fighting immediately. If anyone's husband tried to stop her, she fought back without hesitation.

She didn't even need to ask questions. They immediately told her that it was Haidi who spread the rumors.

Sienna went straight to Haidi's house. She knew that those who did wrong always had a guilty conscience. She didn't even need to ask. A good beating was enough to make them confess who started the rumors.

When Sienna reached Haidi's house, she grabbed her and pulled her out, tearing off her sleeve and tying her up.

Afterward, she moved on to the next round. Since the soldiers knew, it meant the men had also spread the rumors. Sienna hesitated on which man's house to go to, fearing that if she chose the wrong one, it would be awkward. She didn't think all soldiers were the same, just a few individuals.

Looking up, she saw someone coming out of the bathroom—Larry. Sienna suspected he might be the one who started everything.
