Chapter 111 - The Secret Institute and the Angel

In a remote, scenic area deep in the mountains outside Tokyo, a unique structure stood. The building wasn't large, only about a hundred square meters, but in such a secluded location, it was incredibly clean and well-kept.

The exterior walls showed no trace of dirt or dust. Even plants hadn't encroached upon it, growing wild. At a glance, it was clearly not some abandoned mountain shack. Only consistent maintenance could keep it this pristine.

When Yuki's figure appeared outside the building, a small, almost imperceptible camera-like device emerged from an inconspicuous spot on the structure. It was tiny, easy to miss with the naked eye.

After scanning Yuki and confirming his identity, the building's door automatically swung open.

Yuki walked in with practiced ease, showing no surprise or hesitation, as if he had visited many times before.

Inside, everything resembled an ordinary house: an entryway, kitchen, living room, bathroom, shower—all fully equipped.

Yuki walked into the living room and settled onto the sofa.

The TV in front of him instantly turned on. Text appeared on the screen, accompanied by an electronic voice.

[Welcome, Founder Yuki of the New World Institute.]

[Transporting you to the underground research facility now. Please wait.]

Following the two electronic announcements, the entire living room began to transform. The ordinary walls slid apart, revealing sturdy metal beneath. The furniture retracted and was hidden. In moments, the living room had converted into a large elevator shaft.

With a smooth, rapid descent, Yuki, still seated on the sofa, was lowered underground. In under a minute, the elevator stopped, and the metal doors opened.

Yuki stood up and walked out.

The moment he stepped out, he found himself in a bright, expansive corridor filled with futuristic elements. On both sides were rooms with transparent metal walls, each containing various pieces of equipment. Among them were many weapons with distinctly sci-fi designs.

However, Yuki's gaze wasn't fixed on his surroundings. He looked ahead at a figure standing there, a gentle smile on his lips.

"What's wrong? It's only been a week since we last met, and you already miss me? Kanade."

Standing before him was a girl with beautiful, silvery-white hair that shimmered under the corridor lights. Her face was exquisitely fair, with delicate features and skin like congealed cream. Her amber eyes held a beauty and purity reminiscent of an angel.

The girl's name was Kanade Tachibana. Over a month ago, she was someone who had sought his help.

Naturally, Yuki knew exactly who she was: the girl known as "Angel" from Angel Beats!.

Initially, Yuki was quite surprised to find Kanade Tachibana. He hadn't expected this world to incorporate so many different fictional elements. Seeing even the world of Angel Beats! here made him wonder if places like the Afterlife Battlefront existed too. Later, after obtaining the Cosmic Heart, he learned the answer: no, they didn't.

When he encountered Kanade, Yuki recalled her story. She suffered from a congenital heart condition, requiring long-term hospitalization to sustain her life. This chronic illness naturally took a toll, straining her family's finances. In desperation, they sought various forms of aid. However, given current medical technology, her condition was incurable without a heart transplant; otherwise, she would need lifelong hospital care.

Finding a suitable heart, however, was a major hurdle. Organ transplants aren't as simple as replacing car parts; they involve numerous considerations, like rejection risks. Thus, the help Kanade's parents found was like a drop in the bucket.

Yuki accidentally came across her plea for help online one day, particularly noticing the name "Tachibana Kanade." Suspecting she might be that character, he investigated and visited the hospital where she was staying.

Upon meeting her and confirming she was indeed the girl from Angel Beats!, Yuki offered his help.

Kanade's parents were initially skeptical of this young man's offer. After all, it was hard to trust a seemingly ordinary youth who suddenly appeared claiming he could help.

But faced with their years of failed medical consultations and watching their daughter's condition gradually worsen, they ultimately chose to trust Yuki. They took a leap of faith and entrusted their daughter to him.

As for payment, Kanade's parents were already destitute and couldn't afford the treatment costs. In response, Yuki offered them an alternative: they could work at one of his company's facilities, with half their monthly salary going towards repaying the debt.

They gratefully accepted these terms and agreed to hand over their daughter.

After taking Kanade out of the hospital, Yuki brought her to this underground research institute, which he had founded himself. Its primary purpose was researching high-tech weaponry, genetic modification, and other advanced technologies.

Upon transmigrating to this world and learning it was the Date A Live universe, Yuki naturally sought ways to protect himself. With the aid of his "King of Understanding" ability, he quickly developed various black technologies far surpassing anything on the market.

However, for Yuki personally, this wasn't enough. While powerful, weapons were still external aids. His own strength remained that of a mere mortal, offering little sense of security. So, he intensified his research efforts, even venturing into genetic modification.

Though genetic modification could potentially turn him from a weak mortal into someone capable of combating Espers, Yuki was reluctant to use it unless absolutely necessary. The risks were too high; he wouldn't consider it until the risks were reduced to zero. He preferred to pin his hopes on the system, hoping it would bring him luck and enhance his strength.

Thankfully, the system didn't let him down; his patience was eventually rewarded with the Cosmic Heart.

Bringing Kanade here was necessary because only the facilities in this institute could completely cure her heart condition. With his "King of Understanding" ability, Yuki's medical skills had long surpassed contemporary levels. Diseases like heart conditions and cancer, currently incurable in this era, were a piece of cake for him.

He could even have straightforwardly created a brand-new, perfectly compatible artificial heart for Kanade. However, Yuki ultimately opted for a more conservative approach: curing the heart condition by healing the original heart, successfully saving Kanade from her illness.
