Chapter 10 - Battle training

The next morning, I met up with Uraraka and Lida at the train station before heading off to UA.

UA has everything a typical high school would—regular activities that take place in the mornings, like English class with Mic.

After lunch, we ate in the main cafeteria, a huge space where the food is prepared by the Cook hero during lunch rush.

I decided to try something American this time—a cheeseburger with fries, since it's been a while since I sat with my friends and had one. In the afternoon, we finally get the train—I already sent in my hero suit I made inside the Infinity Castle.

"I'm here, coming through the door like a normal person," said All Might, wearing his Silver Age costume.

"All Might is teaching," most of the students said in surprise.

"Of course he is—why do you think he was at the desk? He had to be teaching here," I reminded them, pointing out who had told them about their acceptance into the school.

"Welcome to the most important class at UA High—basically heroing 1o1. You'll learn the fundamentals of being a pro, what it truly means to fight for good. Today's lesson: no holds barred," he said, revealing a car with the word "Battle" on it.

"Battle," I whispered.

"Training," added the angry Pomeranian.

"While training and fighting are crucial, the most important thing is having cool suits," he explained. He pressed a button, and a wall opened up with numbers that matched our seats.

"Get yourself suited up and leave me on Ground Beta," he instructed, as we all grabbed our suits and headed to the changings.

All Might stood in the middle of a fake city, observing the Class 1-A students exiting the buildings.

"I see that clothes really do make the heroes. You all look great. But wait—where's Midoriya?" he asked. Before he finished, a young man appeared in a completely black hero suit with green lines running down the center.

"Your suit looks fantastic. I wish I could be more specific about what I wanted—they made it skin-tight, almost like a spacesuit," Uraraka said, scratching the back of her head. She wore a sleek black and pink-white suit with a mask covering her face.

"They probably made it that way so you can use your Quirk more effectively. You have to touch things for your quirk to work, right? it might be a bad idea if the suit's too loose, as it could hinder your movement," I pointed out, and she nodded in agreement.

"You're right. I guess it's not so bad. How do you think I look?" she asked, a familiar question guys always ask.

"I think you look beautiful and dangerous," I replied, making her blush slightly.

Meanwhile, All Might was watching me, noticing how my ears resembled his hair and how the bottom of my mental mask looked like his smile—making me look just like him, which embarrassed him.

"Once you're ready, it's time for combat training," he announced.

"Sir, is this just the fake city from the entrance exam? Are we going to be fighting robots?" Lida asked, wearing a metal suit with engines.

"Not quite—the scenarios on the news mostly happen outside, but most villains fight indoors—things like home invasions and backroom deals. For this scenario, we should split into teams of good versus evil, fighting two-on-two inside," he explained.

"Isn't that a bit advanced?" asked the frog girl.

"The best training happens on the battlefield. This time, you'll face real people with different tactics—not robots—and that experience will be invaluable," he said. I didn't need to be told; I'd already gained plenty of battle experience over the past few months, though Bakugo still kicked my ass most of the time. I knew I needed to get stronger.

"Do we have to worry about expulsion?" Uraraka asked.

"Who decides who wins?" Momo questioned.

"Are we going to be split randomly?" someone else asked.

"Does my cape look flashy?" a blonde student chimed in.

All Might pulled out a script and explained the scenario:

"Villains have hidden a missile somewhere in the hideout. The heroes must stop them—either by capturing both villains or disarming the bomb. The villains will try to protect the payload or capture the heroes."

He then pulled out a yellow box labeled "Slots."

"Wouldn't there be a better way? And we have an odd number?" Lida asked.

"Think about it—heroes often team up with others from different agencies in real scenarios," I added, nodding.

" I will handle the odd-number problem. The twins will be paired with whomever the other is assigned," All Might said.

We each drew lots—mine was to find my partner, and luckily, it was Uraraka. Like the original timeline, not much had changed, and things like this happened regularly.

"What are the chances we'll be working together?" she asked, walking up to me while some girls looked on jealously.

"The first team to go in will be these guys," All Might announced, revealing "One" with the letter A for heroes and "One" with the letter D for villains—me and Ochaco versus Bakugo and Lida.

"Everyone else, head to the observation room to watch," he said. Uraraka and I waited outside the building.

"Got a plan?" she asked.

"Yes, I've known him for years. I know he'll go straight for me at the start, so you need to handle the bomb. All you have to do is touch it to win. If you can't, wait until I've taken down Bakugo, then take the chance to grab the bomb if I'm eliminated," I explained.

"That sounds good, but how do you know he'll go straight for you?" she pressed.

"Let's just say we have unfinished business," I replied before the intercom crackled.

"Heroes, may enter the building."

We ran inside the building, descending a metal corridor until explosions sounded.

"That's your cue," I said, and she nodded, starting to ascend the stairs. Moments later, Bakugo appeared, looking right at me.

"There you are, Deku," he shouted, charging at me with explosions. I dodged quickly, calling out, "Fire!" Unfortunately, his blasts only added to his explosions, so I switched to water—creating a massive gust that soaked him, knocking him into a wall.

He scrambled to his feet, sweating and firing at me, trying to punch. I caught his fist, pushed him to the ground, and charged a 2% One For All kick, smashing him into the wall and leaving a huge dent. His crazy eyes revealed his gauntlet.

"Hey, Deku, nitroglycerin for my sweat—allows me to store explosions and release them in a big burst," Bakugo said.

"Don't do that, Bakugo! You could kill him," All Might shouted through the intercom, knowing he couldn't get in fast enough.

"Not if he dodges," Bakugo said, causing a massive explosion in my direction.

Facing front, I dropped my hood, shielding my face with both arms, creating an ice shield to block most of the blast.

Behind me, everything disintegrated—the class, the landscape—it all disappeared in the smoke. When it cleared, I was unharmed, even a scratch-free.

"If that's the best you've got, you'll need to do better," I said, charging electricity into my left hand, then forming a fist. Lightning shot out from holes in my glove, striking Bakugo and knocking him out. I quickly tied him up with Capture Tape.

"Bakugo's out. Jungle will pick him up and take him to Recovery Girl," I announced over the intercom, then hurried to help Uraraka.

"Uraraka has captured the bomb. Team A wins. Both teams, report to the observation room," All Might said over the intercom. I froze in my tracks.

We all turned to the observation room.

"Who was the MVP?" he asked. Momo raised her hand.

"MVP was Midoriya. He made a smart plan—knowing his enemy would come straight for him, distracting him so his partner could get the bomb," she explained.

"That's right, Yaoyorozu," All Might agreed.

The second match took place across the entire building. Using my fire powers, I kept everyone warm, especially Tsuyu, who, like a frog, could get cold easily. She leaned on my shoulder, grateful.

She then used her heat powers to warm everyone up further. She looked at me and asked,

"Before you ask, I'm not related to her, as far as I know," I said, earning some surprised looks before focusing back on the ongoing matches.

Near the exit, as we finished, All Might complimented us:

"Today, you all did pretty well. No major injuries—on a good day's work."

"It's nice to get some encouragement after our homeroom teacher's usual stern look," Asui said, and the class nodded.

"I'm happy to share some positivity. I've got other things to do now," All Might told us, running off—and secretly switching his three-hour limiter.

Back in the classroom, my classmates started praising me:

"You handled Bakugo really impressively," Kirishima said.

"We'll go over everything in the locker room after you change quickly. I'm Eijiro Kirishima," he introduced himself.

"I'm Mina Ashido," another said.

"Tsuyu Asui, but call me Tsu. Thanks for keeping me warm when Todoroki froze the building," she added.

"No problem. I noticed you're a frog—so I figured you'd have some frog weaknesses," I replied.

They continued introducing themselves, while Tokoyami took a seat at a desk before Lida approached him.

"Tokoyami, please get off that desk," Lida said.

"Dude, you need to calm down," a purple-haired student added.

"Seriously, you're so uptight," another commented.

"These desks belonged to our upperclassmen before, so I can't help it," lida explained, waving his hand.

Afterward, we gathered our books and homework for the day, heading out.
