Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: First Login Bonus

Axton was released two days later.

The hospital staff called him a miracle. No broken bones, no head trauma, no records of his existence. Social services were notified, but when no guardian could be found, they assumed he was just another lost boy. He didn't argue. The System had already given him a fake identity.

[Identity Constructed: Axton Yamada | Age: 17 | Nationality: Japanese-American]

[Education: Unenrolled | Housing: Temporary Shelter – Sector 7-3]

[New Quest: Enroll in Local High School]

Reward: +10 Adaptability, +1 Charisma, Unknown Bonus

The concept of "school" wasn't foreign to him — the Kingdom of Velgard had academies for swordmasters and summoners. But in this world, it involved pens, uniforms, and sitting still.

The System helped.

Every morning, when he woke up in the bare, cold shelter room, a new notification would greet him:

[Daily Login Bonus: +1 Skill Point, +100 Yen, +1 Vocabulary Pack (Slang Edition)]

It felt like a game. But the stakes were real.

---

The shelter matron, a woman named Mrs. Kubo, helped him get registered. He nodded through meetings and filled out forms the System translated for him.

[Skill Acquired: Bureaucracy Tolerance I]

[Debuff: Paperwork Fatigue – Duration: Permanent]

Then came the uniform. A gray blazer, white shirt, dark slacks. Too thin. No armor padding. He tightened the belt instinctively like a sword strap.

Mrs. Kubo gave him a once-over.

"You'll do fine," she said. "Just don't cause trouble."

Axton had fought bandits, demons, even shadow beasts from the Void. But now he stood before Takashima Public High School, heart pounding like he was entering a dungeon with no map.

[New Area Discovered: Takashima High – Zone Rank: E (Social Difficulty: B+)]

As he stepped through the gate, another notification flashed:

[Quest Unlocked: Survive Your First Day]

Objectives:

Attend all classes (0/6)

Speak to at least 3 classmates (0/3)

Avoid suspicion (0/1)

Bonus Objective: Make a Friend (0/1)

Reward: +5 Wisdom, +1 Skill Point, ???

He took a deep breath and crossed the threshold.

The modern world didn't run on mana. It ran on speed, noise, and invisible rules. And Axton would need all his wits — and his System — to survive it.
