Chapter 6 - 6. Slater Blackthorne

"We're out of blood! Lady Freybear needs AB blood type. The hospital's stock is empty. I've contacted many people, other hospitals, and even relatives. All out of stock! No one has a similar blood type."

"How long will she last?"

"1 hour, more than that. She could bleed to death. Oh, that poor little girl. What a terrible fate. She is so sweet. Her brother has been cursing the slow performance and lack of this hospital! He can't believe we don't have it! He almost beat up Doctor Wade."

Constance stopped; she had just come out of the restroom door, overhearing the three nurses' desperate-sounding conversation. Connie's conscience was stirred, especially when she heard a little girl's life was at stake.

"Oh, is there any miracle that could save Lady Freybear?"

Connie let out a long sigh, having taken time to reflect deeply until she felt confident in her decision. She couldn't let the little girl's struggle stop.

Then Connie turned around, approaching the nurses' compartment. She knocked politely on the door. "Excuse me, I heard you need an AB blood type?"

"Yes, Lady? Why do you ask?"

Connie smiled slightly. "Mine is AB. I can help."

"Really? Oh, thank goodness! There's finally a miracle! Please, Lady! Come with me!"

Asher and Lord Linus wouldn't mind waiting a little longer for me, right?

Connie entered the lab room, following all the nurse's instructions; they moved rapidly.

The syringe that pierced Connie's skin caused fresh blood to come out, flowing through the IV tube and ending up in the blood bag. Connie asks. "What happened to that little girl?"

"She's lost blood from a hemorrhage after a fatal traffic accident and being involved in a shootout. She's one of the dentist's regular patients in our hospital, a pleasant and sweet little lady.

"What you did could have saved her life. Thank you so much. Hold on a second, Lady. It's little bit hurt."

"Gunfight?" Connie was flabbergasted; her eyes widened in fright, it hard to believe. She swiftly recalled the horrific, trauma-inducing memory of when Morelli's soldier shot her back.

Connie would never forget that betrayal—not even in death. She hadn't expected the sound of the gunshot to ring endlessly, haunting her sleep.

The traumatic flashback lingered. Deep down, she wished for the strength to one day take revenge on Morelli.

You will feel pain so deep it will bring you to the edge of death. I won't let you die that easily. You must suffer first. Endless suffering, Enzo.

Connie read the nameplate on the nurse's pocket that spelled out Heather's name.

Not knowing how much they needed, Connie began to feel dizzy as she filled the second bag, letting Heather do the work. "I hope my blood can save her life."

"The test results are out. You can check this now. If you'll excuse me, Lady Kaiser," Heather smiled warmly after handing over the envelope paper and leaving.

Connie stopped, leaning against the wall of the hospital hallway; she was still reeling from the dizziness throbbing in her head after transferring blood. In fact, they needed almost 550 cc of blood.

Her hands shivered as she opened the envelope of lab results; reading the contents, her face grew bloodlessly pale as if her world had stopped spinning.

Positive. 99% match.

Frozen, she unsure how to react; she had witnessed and undergone this DNA test without any interruption. Linus' face flashed in her mind, smiling and calling out her name in a soft tone.

Sadie...

"I'm truly Sadie Elaine Kaiser? The daughter of Andromeda and Reiner Kaiser? Lord Linus is not lying. But why couldn't I remember anything? What happened to me exactly in the past?"

At the orphanage, Mrs. Spencer never told me anything about where I came from. Whenever I pressed her about my background, she never explained the truth.

However, they called me an unwanted child.

Connie walked again, closing the envelope; now she had to dismiss all doubts and start accepting reality. "I must learn to forget Constance Sylvaine's miserable life. Make it part of my deepest memories. Ugh!"

Bounced and tumbled backwards, her envelope falling out. She winced in ache on the floor, rubbing her head as if she had just hit something gigantic and hard. She was lost in thought, unaware of where she was going.

"ARE YOU BLIND?!" An impressive voice with an arrogant tone that stabbed as if a hazardous dagger thundered and raged against Connie for getting in his way.

Constance looked up; her eyes found a striking man, well-proportioned, physically muscled, and stunningly fit, underneath a white vest with a lavish black coat, charcoal jeans, and white sneakers with black stripes.

His messy pomp of hair, the color of rustic brown, was bloodied. His face was pale, looking panicked.

Connie hadn't had time to apologize, too dizzy, her vision blurred again, just watching the man kneel down to pick up his envelope that had also fallen at their feet, he left Connie in a fiery rage.

"Get out of my way, you idiot!" The arrogant and disrespectful man still cursed at her.

For heaven's sake! Connie grunted in vexation; she wanted so badly to retaliate against that arrogant, cruel, ruthless man. Although she grimaced, feeling killing soreness in her head endlessly, and now having trouble standing up.

"Oh my, Lady Sadie! What are you doing here?!"

"Asher?"

Asher was so terrified, he reached out, helped Sadie up, and walked her in his arms. "We were all frantically looking for you. Where have you been?

"What took you so long? Lord Linus even ordered all the guards to look for you. Are you okay? What happened? Let me help you."

Connie shook and smiled warmly. "It's nothing, Asher. Just bring me to see Grandpa."

"Who transferred my sister's blood?!" asked Slater with bated breath, not caring about the wounds on his head and hand. "I have to meet him!"

The voice of an absolute commander that made anyone obey and could not be refuted; even Heather could not deny him.

"Mr. Blackthorne, you should not leave the infirmary just yet." Heather demanded. She was genuinely worried about him as a regular patient. "Your left hand's injured from a gunshot wound. You need to rest."

Slater waved a hand, and he snorted. "Never mind. Where is he? I wanna meet him!"

"She's a lady, Mr. Blackthorne. Not him." Heather answered and pointed out the corridor. She explained cheerfully, "That heavenly, elegant lady who had just come out didn't think twice about giving her blood.

"She is so generous, like her late parents, with long vermilion red hair, deep-set brilliant silver eyes, a height of 175 cm, and porcelain skin. She's drop-dead gorgeous! You must have met her in the corridor."

Slater's brow furrowed sharply; a bad feeling struck his soul. The same characteristic as the woman he'd berated for getting in his way. Slater scoffed, still finding it hard to believe Heather's words. "Impossible..."

Heather chuckled, being focused on writing the report on her clipboard. She uttered firmly. "What's impossible? Yes, she definitely is. She wanted me to keep her identity under wraps, but you insisted.

"Lady Sadie Elaine Kaiser transferred her blood to save your sister's life. She did not even know Little Lady Freybear. How noble she is, right?"

Slater glared at her, his hands clenched tightly to show his rage veins. The onslaught of the flaming waves of wrath, hatred, hurt, and resentment at hearing the Kaiser's name pierced his heart as if with a poisoned knife.

Slater turned away, leaving Heather wordless, his jaw hardened.

His eyes blazed with deep hatred.

Sadie...

Slater looked down deeply, rubbing his face in frustration. He realized something when he saw the white envelope in his hand. "What is this?"

When Slater realized he had picked up the wrong envelope, he ripped it open. "This is not the envelope from Freya's lab—"

Slater's eyes sharpened with wrath when he read the lab results. He grunted, "Sadie Elaine Kaiser? Was there a DNA test that matched Andromeda and Reiner...?"

HA! Slater sniffed viciously; he crushed the paper in his hands, the expression on his face turning even more demonic.

The memories of Sadie that Slater had cursed at her ferociously. He wasn't satisfied with just cursing! Then he grinned wickedly—

"So, you find her, the long-lost beloved granddaughter you've been searching desperately for all this time, Linus."

Slater giggled maniacally, his cosmic-blue pupil eyes darkened. He smirks devilishly. "Now, I know what your fatal weakness is. I won't let you have a happy ending just like that."

Slater swore and sighed deeply, smugly, in the fresh air. He catches up and sees Sadie's back, her vermilion red hair shiny beneath the gray sunlight coming in from the hospital hallway window, limping in Asher Castiel's arms.

Well, death refused her. How unfortunate. Finally, this absurd twist of fate has come.

Slater's hunter eyes turned to target her. Some evil plan flashed into his mind. Then he vowed, "I'll make your life suffer; a living like a bloody hell, Kaiser!"
