This Bewear...
Carver felt a mix of emotions. He didn't know how Bewear would react if it ever discovered that its little master was no longer in this world.
Bewear had adored the original Carver. When news of the shipwreck that claimed his parents reached them, it had even tried to use the move Pain Split to share in Carver's grief over losing his family.
Although Pokémon weren't human, they were incredibly sensitive in certain ways.
Carver couldn't tell if Bewear had sensed any changes in its "young master."
Sighing silently to himself, Carver looked around and then said to Bewear, "I'd like to look around a bit."
"Guu~!"
Bewear tossed aside the broom and eagerly took the lead.
It had once been the caretaker Pokémon of the breeding house—no one in this world knew the place better than it did.
"You're giving me a tour?" Carver blinked in surprise.
"Guu~!"
Bewear spread its arms wide in excitement and nodded enthusiastically.
"Then I'll count on you, Bewear." Seeing such a cute Pokémon act this way lifted Carver's spirits.
Although Bewear was technically giving a tour, in reality, it simply walked side-by-side with Carver.
The breeding house wasn't very large and was split into two sections: the daycare and the inn.
The first floor was a lobby for greeting visiting Trainers, where services were provided at the front desk—such as Pokémon daycare, move tutoring, egg incubation, and buying or selling of Pokémon eggs.
Raising Pokémon required a lot of space.
Guided by the original Carver's memories, he stepped behind the counter and pushed open an old wooden door.
A vast clearing stretched out before him.
The area was surrounded by a wooden fence, but many parts had rotted away due to neglect. The clearing was overgrown with weeds and scattered with rocks. In the distance, there was a small forest and a lake.
According to memory, the lake had once been a habitat for Water-type Pokémon housed at the daycare.
Though the breeding house had never been bustling, it had once been lively.
Various Pokémon—both owned by the daycare and left by Trainers—used to fill the grounds. You couldn't take a step without seeing Pokémon.
But since the shipwreck three years ago, everything had been sold off. Only the shell of the building remained.
Carver now had a clear idea of the situation.
After inspecting the daycare portion, he returned to the main hall.
The building had two floors. The first floor housed the lobby, dining area, and kitchen.
The second floor was the inn—once offering six rooms for traveling Trainers to rest.
Because this place was located between Meteor Falls and Fallarbor Town, it took more than half a day to walk to the nearest town.
That was why the original Carver's parents had opened the inn—to offer travelers food and a place to sleep.
"Meteor Falls… Fallarbor Town…"
So this was the Hoenn region.
Carver opened each room in the inn to inspect them.
No one had stayed there in a long time. Every room was covered in dust, with nothing but a bed and a cabinet.
In their current condition, the rooms were uninhabitable.
The kitchen still had some well-preserved utensils and cookware, stored neatly in cabinets and undamaged.
The dining area was tucked into a corner of the main hall. It consisted of a few small wooden tables, also dusty.
In one corner, there was a small wooden door leading to the backyard.
Carver walked over and pushed it open—revealing a garden filled with greenery and blooming flowers.
To his surprise, five or six berry trees were growing there!
Their fruits resembled familiar ones—likely Sitrus Berries, Oran Berries, or Pecha Berries.
This area was separate from the daycare yard and seemed specifically designated for growing berry trees.
"This is…"
Going by the original Carver's memories, he quickly understood.
Because of how far the breeding house was from Fallarbor Town, his parents had cultivated a garden here to grow berries, vegetables, and crops for the daycare and inn's daily needs.
The area was near Mt. Chimney, whose occasional volcanic ash made the surrounding vegetation especially lush.
But with time, the once-tended garden had become overgrown with weeds.
"This soil is so fertile... it's perfect for farming," Carver thought.
Looking at the overgrown backyard, something in his blood stirred—he instinctively wanted to plant something.
"Guu~!"
Just then, Bewear—who had been following him all along—suddenly ran forward. Stretching out its arm, it plucked a Sitrus Berry from a tree and happily offered it to Carver.
Carver paused, meeting Bewear's eager gaze. Unable to refuse, he smiled and took the berry.
"Let's go back to the hall. I've seen enough," Carver said.
"Guu~" Bewear had no objections.
Back in the daycare's main hall, Carver—having finally grasped his situation—began to think calmly.
A cheat skill, a daycare, and a Bewear...
If making Pokémon happy could earn him rewards...
He had to admit, this cheat was practically made for running a breeding house.
That way, more Trainers would leave their Pokémon here for care.
As long as he looked after them well and made them happy, he could receive "gifts" from them.
Carver narrowed his eyes, deep in thought.
As someone who had grown up watching Pokémon, Carver had once dreamed of traveling the world with his favorite partners, just like Ash.
But now, that seemed completely unrealistic.
He didn't even have a cent in his pocket—he'd starve before reaching the next town.
Not to mention, the wild was full of aggressive Pokémon, and without even a starter, he wouldn't make it far.
Looking at the TM for Baby-Doll Eyes he had just received, and thinking back on the daycare's core services, Carver began to form a plan.
In that case, he would use this TM to earn his first bucket of gold in this world.
Then he'd restore this run-down daycare, make it flourish, and raise a whole backyard full of Pokémon he loved!
