"The Fall"
Vendetta, now a monster, was incredibly powerful, at least a high-ranking Level 6.
Four Level 5 adventurers from the Loki Familia's new generation, including Ais, were unable to subdue him quickly despite their combined assault.
Tione inflicted over a dozen wounds with her dual blades, but they healed instantly.
"Useless Amazon, get out of the way! Ais!"
Bete leaped above Vendetta, raising his leg high.
Ais followed, activating her magic.
"Tempest!"
Emerald-green air currents flowed to Bete in mid-air, illuminating the gems on his metal boots.
Powered by Ais's magic, Bete's kick was devastating; Vendetta's arm was shattered.
However, because the arm blocked the blow, the kick, though landing on Vendetta's chest, lacked the force to shatter the magic stone within.
Vendetta spat blood, but before he could recover, Ais, also enhanced by Ariel, and Tiona, wielding her large weapon, charged.
The Despair Sword and the large double-bladed Urga descended; if struck, even as a monster, Vendetta wouldn't survive.
But Vendetta showed no fear or panic, appearing as though he'd already achieved his objective.
Finn, while fighting the carnivorous plants, had been observing this battle and noticed the anomaly. He shouted, "No good, watch out!"
"Too late!"
Vendetta sneered; a blinding light erupted beneath his feet.
Ais and Tiona had to stop attacking and retreat. It was a Cannon Dragon bombardment; even Drake hadn't reacted in time.
Why could the Cannon Dragon target enemies across floors? This question remained unanswered due to a lack of information, but Vendetta had clearly exploited this.
However, Vendetta underestimated the Loki Familia adventurers' skills, especially Riveria, the top-tier mage.
Riveria's excellence wasn't just in spellcasting and technique but also in her high combat acumen.
From the start of the battle, Riveria hadn't attacked or chanted a long spell; she'd been preparing a defensive spell, just in case, and it proved timely.
"Dance, atmospheric sprite, master of light. I make a pact with the forest guardian, may the earth's song resonate, protect us—please transform into a forest light wall to protect us—I am Arve, Dimensional Severance!"
Upon sensing the Cannon Dragon's bombardment, Riveria cast this spell; the fully expanded magic array protected everyone.
Riveria's Dimensional Severance successfully blocked the bombardment, protecting everyone. However, the ground was shattered by the impact.
Everyone felt a sudden lightness; they fell into the crater created by the bombardment.
As they fell, a swarm of bipedal wyverns attacked, scattering the adventurers.
Drake flipped in mid-air, avoiding a wyvern's maw. He then delivered an uppercut, exploding the wyvern's head.
At that moment, Drake saw Vendetta using a wyvern as a stepping stone to approach Ais.
Drake glanced around; Finn and the others had fallen elsewhere; he had to act alone.
He deployed his flame wings; a scorching heat wave pushed away the surrounding wyverns.
Ais killed a wyvern about to attack her, noticing the approaching Vendetta. Then, she saw Drake with his wings.
Drake was much faster than Vendetta; he reached Ais first, scooping her into his arms.
Carrying Ais, Drake flew to a safer area on the ground.
Ais looked at Drake, his wings gone. "Was that magic? Amazing!"
It was rare to see such a surprised expression on her face.
Drake nodded. "An application of my magic. But let's figure out our next move.
We're separated from the others; I wonder how they are?"
Ais seemed unconcerned. "They'll be fine; Finn and the others are strong; they'll be safe!"
Drake nodded. "You're right; with their skills, they can handle this. So, what should we do next?
We fell two floors; this should be the fifty-sixth floor. Should we return to the fiftieth floor to rejoin the main force or search for Finn and the others?"
Ais wasn't yet the mature she would become after various experiences, especially her encounter with Bell.
She usually left decisions to Finn or Riveria; no one had ever asked her to decide.
Seeing her troubled expression, Drake said, "Don't worry about me, whatever you decide. You can feel it; I'm very strong!
So, ask yourself what you want."
Ais was silent for a moment, then said, "I want to go down and find everyone."
Drake understood; Ais's decision to continue wasn't out of concern for Finn; she wanted to find Vendetta and understand why he knew the name "Ailias."
Drake hadn't told Ais that he'd also heard what Vendetta said as they fell.
"Sword Princess, she's waiting for you on the fifty-ninth floor!"
Ais didn't know who "she" was but understood it was connected to what she wanted to know.
Drake looked at Ais. "I understand; let's go down. But before we leave, let's deal with a pesky fellow!"
At the edge of the crater created by the Cannon Dragon's bombardment, a hand appeared, followed by a person climbing out.
It was Vendetta; this guy was persistent!
"Sword Princess, you're not getting away!"
Ais didn't respond, only tightening her grip on the Despair Sword.
Drake pressed down on Ais's sword. "Even in this situation, I can't just stand by, but Miss Ais, please keep what you see next a secret."
Ais paused, then nodded seriously.
Drake stretched and approached Vendetta; Vendetta's expression darkened.
"To be challenged by a nobody… Sword Princess, are you insulting me?"
Before Vendetta could finish, his facial muscles froze; the rest of his words were swallowed. Drake had instantly appeared before him.
"Are those your last words? How unpleasant."
