Chapter 5 - The Shannara Chronicles—5

" So?" He asked her hiding the surprise at how easily she relented.

" I come here from time to time, if I'm lucky then I might find a frightened horse with stuff on it." She said with shame on her face." if not then I find a corpse with its stuff still on it and loot them."

She seemingly uncomfortable at having to confess.

Had it been anyone they would have probably believed some part of her story. Him though? Not a chance.

But he'd play along, he had nothing to lose and everything to win after all.

He had an inkling that the main cast of the series would net him a good chunk of rolls, so killing her would be a bit of a waste.

" So, you're practically a roaver?" He asked lowering his knives but kept them out in a sign of non-aggression.

He wanted her to feel like he was letting his guard down, plus it was getting late and she had a place where he could sleep for the night.

All he had to do was just be careful around her.

" I make a living off scavenging, roavers steal, pilage and kill." She retorted defensively seeming offended." I'm just trying to survive."

He looked at her and felt like snorting at that.

From what he remembered from the series then most of what she said was true, to an extent.

She hadn't killed anyone, yet. Afterall she was still new to the roaver business, this being her first roaver outing just so she could get enough gold to buy herself from her adoptive father.

" That still makes you a roaver." He told her with a roll of his eyes before grabbing a gold coin from a satchel bag inside his jacket.

He saw how her eyes widened when she heard the chime of coins and how many they actually were inside.

He flicked the coin at her making her catch it before looking at it with greed in her eyes.

" Well since you 'patrol' these lands then am I safe to say that you have house close by?" He asked pocketing his satchel back in his jacket.

She looked at him, her eyes shifting as she stared at him. " I do, why?"

He could see the gears spinning inside her head, already she was probably plotting on how to steal the coins he presumed.

" I need a place to stay, it's getting dark." He told her with a shrugg.

" Aren't you worried I'll steal your stuff?" She asked dismissively, probing at him.

" You're welcome to try, trust me though it won't be easy." He told her whilst lacing his words with arrogance.

She simply smirked at that from either seeing an easy mark or just from the confidence, he didn't know.

Seeing this as her chance she then walked up to him and held out her hand." Eretria."

Seeing this he simply smiled and stealthily hid his own blades inside his sleeves and then shook her hand looking straight into her eyes. " Wil."

She scoffed at the name before looking at his ears again. " How about I just call you short-tips for short?"

" Firstly, that's longer than my actual name and secondly, call me that and I might shank you in your sleep." He said shrugging seemingly unperturbed.

" Duly noted." She sarcastically said with a roll of her own eyes.

_______________________________________________________

After meeting Eretria they had taken his horse to where she had hers hidden before setting off towards Eretria's 'home'.

As they rode they made conversation, mostly her subtly prodding him for more information about him and him doing the same just so he could catch a slip into her story to use against her.

Playing along with her had already paid off though, as minutes after riding together he had obtained another achievement.

[—Ding! Achievement Earned!

—Meet Eretria and befriend her.

—Reward - 2 Rolls]

He had been glad that he didn't shank her when he could, as she granted him the most amount of rolls from simply meeting her.

He wasn't sure though what his system was on about with 'befriending' her.

He was sure that the girl only wanted his valuables and nothing more.

So he had taken the time as they rode to roll for rewards.

He was still greatly weaker than most people in this world, both magical and martial.

So he wanted to obtain as many benefits as he possibly could before he was dragged on the quest to save the Ellcrys.

He knew that he couldn't simply ignore it and go on his lonesome on some unknown village and live out his life.

He needed to be close to the centre of action to grow stronger and also because he didn't trust that his disappearance would end well for the world.

With demons and all about to invade as the Ellcrys dies.

So he finally opened his system.

[—Menu—]

—Status

—Inventory

—Poll Pull.

—[—]—

Three functions.

That was all he had, but they would be enough for his needs.

He already had instinctual knowledge ingrained in him about how they were all used so he wouldn't be confused.

The first one was his Status, this would allow him to view all his improvements and every single change to his status from his perks, skills, traits and all.

He already had looked through his status already so he didn't think anything would have changed.

His inventory on the other hand would be another boon to him, though it also had its fair share of limits.

It would grant him an infinite number of space slots for any item he obtained from the system, though it only had 100 slots for items that he obtained from this world.

This was probably a limit imposed upon him by the system in order for him to not just fill it with resources and then live his miserable life in some cave somewhere.

He wouldn't have in the first place but he could also understand why that limit was there, even if he didn't like it.

Then the last one was of course the 'Pool Pull'.

A weird name but since his system was called The Great Pool System he could understand why it was named so.

And so with all his functions laid bare he immediately opened his [Pool Pull]

A dice immediately appearing infront of him.

[—You have 4 Rolls.

—Would you like to Roll the Great Pool?]
