After the system transmitted its information, Logan understood how it worked. The Fishing System, as the name suggested, was used for fishing—but not in the outside world. Instead, it operated within a special space.
This unique space contained a massive pond filled with multicolored liquid. Beside the pond stood a fishing rod.
The space was called the Fishing Realm, where all the fishing took place. From this pond, Logan could fish up various treasures—all tailored to suit him best.
In addition, the space functioned as a storage dimension. Not only could Logan store what he caught, but also any other items he wished to keep, accessible at any time.
Even better, everything stored in this space was suspended in time. For example, a dish placed inside would remain in its original state no matter how long it was stored.
The only limitation was that the space couldn't store living things. Still, Logan was more than satisfied with this incredible ability.
Moreover, while the space didn't seem too large right now, it would expand as Logan grew stronger. Its limits? Unknown—the system didn't provide any specifics.
The Fishing Realm alone was an exciting surprise, but the system had even more features.
To fish treasures from the pond, bait was needed. There were four types: Basic Bait, Advanced Bait, Super Bait, and Growth Bait.
Getting bait was straightforward:
One Basic Bait per day,
One Advanced Bait per month,
One Super Bait per year.
Growth Bait was the exception—it couldn't be obtained automatically. Logan had to level up to earn it.
As the system activated, it had already assessed Logan's current state and provided a path for growth.
Since Logan was a chef, his advancement was tied to the chef ranking system of the Shokugeki no Soma world.
In the original manga, there wasn't a clear hierarchy for chefs. But in this version of the world, chef ranks were well-defined.
There were seven levels:
Junior Chef
Intermediate Chef
Senior Chef
Third-Class Chef
Second-Class Chef
First-Class Chef
Special-Class Chef
The last four levels aligned with the WGO Executives—your rank as a WGO officer matched your culinary skill.
Logan was currently rated an Intermediate Chef. Still, this already placed him among the top students at Tōtsuki.
Junior Chefs were the most common, found in most everyday restaurants.
Intermediate Chefs made up the bulk of the non-Elite Ten at Tōtsuki.
Senior Chefs were equivalent to the Elite Ten while they were still in school—and even a few years after graduation.
Third-Class Chefs included outstanding graduates like Jōichirō Yukihira and Gin Dōjima, who hit that level upon graduation.
Special-Class Chefs were rare. Jōichirō had reached it; Gin, busy managing the resort, was now only a First-Class Chef, trailing behind.
Most graduates needed two to three years to reach Third-Class status—if their growth was smooth.
Exceptional cases, like Kojirō Shinomiya, sometimes took longer—or even stagnated.
Only a handful ever made it to Second-Class Chef. That level required more than just time; it demanded genius.
Even with Tōtsuki's intense "survival-of-the-fittest" training, very few graduates broke past the third-class bottleneck.
And the further up you went, the harder it became. Gifted chefs like Jōichirō could climb to the top, but others were doomed to plateau.
For most normal chefs, even Intermediate or Junior Chef might be their ceiling.
Logan knew this reality well—without the system, his own limit might've been Third-Class Chef.
Sure, he was doing fine now, one of the standouts among his generation at Tōtsuki, but that included his accumulated experience from a past life.
Though he'd only run a snack shop, Logan still had the mind of an adult. That alone gave him an edge over most peers who began training as kids.
Still, even with that edge, he had only reached this level—proof that talent was everything in this world.
At first, he had the advantage, but as time passed, things got harder—especially when compared to the gifted students of Polar Star Dorm.
People like Satoshi Isshiki and Megumi Tadokoro were perfect examples. Tadokoro in particular had grown rapidly after overcoming her anxiety.
Now, only Isshiki could keep up with her due to being a year ahead. Everyone else had been left behind.
This didn't surprise Logan. Megumi had always shown promise in the original story—her nervousness had held her back. Without that, she'd have surpassed even top-tier talents like Akira Hayama.
Among their peers, only Erina Nakiri could still dominate her. With the "God Tongue," Erina had the ultimate cheat in culinary ability.
As of now, Logan was an Intermediate Chef. To earn his first Growth Bait, he'd need to become a Senior Chef.
Currently, Logan had three types of bait—one of each: Basic, Advanced, and Super. A solid starter pack.
"Not bad at all, a newbie bundle. Let's test the waters with the Basic Bait first."
Now that he understood the system in full, Logan was eager to try it out—time to cast his line and see what kind of treasure he could fish up.
