The morning mist clung low over Greystone as Lucas stood at the edge of the castle gates, a leather satchel slung over his shoulder. Zephyra hovered above, wings silent against the wind. Umbra padded beside him like a living shadow. Across from him, Elira mounted Luna, the lynx's breath misting in the cold air.
Behind them, the Barony stirred with movement—militiamen shouting, carts rolling, workers hauling timber to reinforce the outer wall.
Reynard stepped forward, bowing slightly. "Everything is set in motion, my lord. Watchposts will be up within days, and Sir Hale has already begun drills with the townsfolk."
Lucas nodded. "Good. Keep the people steady. I don't know what we'll find at the relic site, but if it can help us against the Tide, we can't ignore it."
"Understood," Reynard said. Fen, his husky-like beast, let out a low chuff, as if in agreement.
Elira guided Luna to Lucas's side. "We should go before the forest wakes. That cemetery won't remain quiet forever."
Lucas gave one last glance back at his Barony—the half-rebuilt walls, the training field, the marketplace filled with cautious hope. Then he turned toward the western road.
"Greystone's future depends on what we find," he murmured.
And with that, they rode into the mist.
The journey took the better part of the day. The further west they traveled, the more the woods thickened. Vines hung like nooses, and roots clawed at the ground. Shadows moved where there should be none.
Lucas dismounted beside a cracked stone wall, overgrown with ivy and moss. Beyond it, ancient tombstones stood crooked and broken. Fog curled around their feet like ghosts.
"This is the place?" he asked.
Elira nodded. "I can feel it. The winds don't blow right here. It's... heavy. Like the forest remembers."
Zephyra fluttered down beside him, her feathers flaring nervously. Umbra growled, low and cautious.
Lucas moved toward the central mausoleum. Its stone doors were sealed shut, and an emblem of a lion crest was worn but still visible.
His family's crest.
"Elira, stand back."
He drew his dagger and sliced a shallow cut across his palm. The blood dripped onto the lion emblem, and for a moment, nothing happened.
Then—rumble.
The earth trembled. The mausoleum doors slid open with a slow, grinding groan, revealing a staircase spiraling into darkness.
DING!
[System Alert: Heir of Greystone recognized. Access Granted.]
Lucas glanced at Elira. "Let's see what my ancestors were hiding."
They descended into the depths.
Inside, the air was dry and cold. Dust clung to the walls, and old torch sconces lined the stone corridor. Lucas summoned a small orb of light from Zephyra's elemental breath. It floated above them, casting pale green illumination.
In the heart of the underground vault lay a raised pedestal. Upon it rested a black-bound tome with silver inlay—the kind that pulsed faintly with power.
As Lucas approached, the system chimed again.
DING!
[Relic Acquired: Skillbook – Beast Fusion]
[Would you like to learn this skill? Y/N]
He didn't hesitate. "Yes."
The tome glowed bright, symbols unraveling and etching themselves into his mind. Heat coursed through his chest, and in his vision, threads of light connected him to Zephyra and Umbra.
DING!
[Skill Unlocked: Beast Fusion]

But then another alert appeared—one not expected.
DING!
[Hidden Condition Met: Dual Beast Bond – Lion & Dragon]
[Reward: New Skill Unlocked – Telepathy (Passive)]
Lucas gasped, stepping back as a strange clarity settled into his mind. He could feel Umbra's calm focus, Zephyra's curiosity. And when he thought toward them—
"Can you hear me?" he asked in his thoughts.
Umbra turned and nodded slightly.
Zephyra chirped aloud but responded in his mind. "I always could, but now you understand."
Lucas grinned, amazed.
Elira watched him in silence, awe flickering in her eyes. "You've changed. Your aura—it's... sharper."
Lucas opened his mouth to respond, but his eyes caught on something else: a second pedestal, partly collapsed, holding a weathered book with golden clasps.
He approached it carefully, brushing away dust.
The title shimmered faintly.
"The Lost Bloodline of Kings."
He opened it, and the world fell quiet around him.
The book detailed the rise of the Carter family—not merely as lords of Greystone, but as descendants of a forgotten line of beast emperors who once ruled a scattered human kingdom known as Valtanir—a dynasty of tamers and rulers with dominion over beasts and battle.
Lucas's ancestor, High King Vael Carter, was the last to hold the title before the beast tides wiped out the realm three centuries ago. The survivors scattered, and the bloodline faded into obscurity—until now.
Lucas swallowed hard. "I'm not just a lord. My bloodline... It's royal."
Elira stepped closer, voice soft. "That's why you have this connection. Your strength... your presence. It's in your blood."
As Lucas stood in stunned silence, a gentle voice echoed in his mind—familiar and ethereal.
{Angel}: "Lucas, your path changes now. The system must adapt to your evolution."
He tensed. "Angel?"
{Angel}: "The Beast Fusion has awakened your deeper inheritance. To process these changes, the system will undergo a 24-hour update."
DING!
[System Notification: Update Scheduled – 24 Hours Remaining]
During this time, skill progression and new features will be temporarily paused. Beasts may still train and fight. Existing skills remain functional.
Next System Phase: ???
"Why now?" Lucas asked aloud.
{Angel}: "Because the war you face isn't one of claws and fangs alone. You must become more. And for that, you need clarity."
The voice faded.
Lucas stared down at his hands. "A king's blood. A fusion of beasts. Telepathy. And now the system's changing?"
Zephyra brushed against him. "You're ready."
Umbra stood still, his golden eyes locked on Lucas's.
Elira smiled faintly. "Looks like you found more than just a relic."
…
They made camp just outside the tomb as night settled. Lucas sat by the fire, the tome and bloodline book beside him. Elira tended to Luna, her expression thoughtful.
"So what now?" she asked.
Lucas's eyes flickered toward the stars. "Now, we prepare. Train. Test this new power." 'When the system returns... I need to be ready to lead not just Greystone, but something greater.' Lucas said in his mind.
Elira studied him, then smiled. "You are becoming the man you were meant to be."
Lucas didn't answer immediately. He watched Zephyra glide through the night sky, Umbra crouched by the edge of the fire, silent and still.
Then, in the quiet of the night, he whispered, "Let the silverback come. Let them all come."
He raised his hand toward the fire, and the shadows around Umbra danced. Zephyra let out a resonant call, and Luna responded with a cry of her own.
"We'll answer with a roar of our own."
