Chapter 8 - Chapter 7: The Price of Silence

Kael stared at the insignia, his fingers pressing against the cold metal. His mind felt distant, detached, as if the memories were someone else's. The pain, the rage it was all buried deep within him now, like a weight he carried in silence.

But silence was no shield.

Jun's words echoed again, sharp and clear in his mind "Make them fear you."

It was a simple command, but it resonated deeper than Kael cared to admit. He had spent years in isolation, in the shadows of his own rage, hiding from the world that had abandoned him. But fear, fear was something he understood.

Kael stood up, the insignia still in his hand. It had been his grandfather's symbol, a mark of power and loss, of a legacy that was both a blessing and a curse. The Fang had shaped his family, and now it would shape him.

He slipped the insignia into his pocket, and his gaze turned to the door. The room was suffocating, the shadows pressing in from all sides. It was time to leave. Time to find what he was really meant to become.

...

The cold air hit Kael like a slap as he stepped out into the night. The streets of the city felt empty, as if the very buildings were waiting, watching. The hum of distant traffic was a constant, like the background noise of his life, but never truly noticed.

His footsteps echoed in the quiet street, each step a reminder of the path he had chosen. There was no turning back now. The choice had been made, and there was no room for hesitation.

Kael made his way toward the alley behind the school, the place where he knew Jun would be waiting. Jun had always been a shadow in his life, lurking just out of sight, watching from the periphery. Tonight, that shadow would become something more.

...

Jun was there, just as Kael had expected. He stood leaning against the wall, his eyes gleaming in the dim light, as though he had been waiting for Kael all along.

"You've made your decision," Jun said, his voice low, almost as if speaking in a whisper to avoid disturbing the stillness of the night.

Kael nodded, stepping closer. "I don't run anymore," he said, his voice steady, determined.

Jun's lips curled into a faint smile. "Good. The first lesson is always the hardest. The Fang will test you, but remember, they will only fear you if you embrace the power they never gave you. The choice is yours embrace it fully, or let it consume you."

Kael didn't flinch. He had learned long ago that power wasn't something to be feared. It was something to be wielded, something to control.

"I'll make them remember my name," Kael said quietly, his resolve hardening.

Jun's smile widened, but there was something cold behind it. "Then let's begin."

...

As they walked through the shadows of the city, Kael's thoughts turned inward. He had known this day would come, the day when the weight of his past would demand something from him. His mother's death. His grandfather's betrayal. The rage that had simmered in him, waiting for the right moment to explode.

And now, it was time to set that explosion in motion.

But the question lingered, haunting him What will be the cost?

As they reached a darkened street corner, Kael paused. Jun turned to him, sensing the change.

"I'm not like you," Kael said quietly. "I'm not a killer. Not yet."

Jun's expression softened, though his eyes remained as sharp as ever. "You don't have to be a killer to make them fear you, Kael. You just need to be willing to break what they believe in."

Kael felt a chill run through him. Was this the path he had chosen? To break everything his past, his values, and perhaps even his own soul just to make them fear him?

He didn't have an answer. Not yet.

But he knew one thing, the first step had already been taken.
