Chapter 9 - Chapter 6: What Did I Just Wake Up To?

Yuna woke up to the smell of something burning.

And a strange humming.

And—

"🎶 I am your moonlight, I am your sunshine, I am your—AH—OW. HOT. WHY IS IT SPARKING?! 🎶"

She blinked at the ceiling for a full five seconds before grabbing her robe and walking toward the kitchen like a ghost being summoned by bad life choices.

What she found:

Kang Rin Kiyama, shirt half-off, apron on backwardsA pan of unidentifiable goo on the stoveThe smoke detector hanging sideways from the ceilingA Pikachu plush in a bowl of rice

"...What the hell."

He turned around, beaming.

"Good morning, CEO-nim! I was making you breakfast. For letting me sleep on your extremely luxurious sofa and cry like a loser in your arms."

He held up something that looked vaguely like… a pancake?

"It's shaped like a heart."

"It looks like a failed science experiment."

"Love is chaos."

"You're chaos."

"And yet, you still let me kiss you last night."

He winked.

Yuna stared at him.

Then, slowly, turned to pour herself coffee.

"What time is it?" she asked flatly.

"8:47. You've got a meeting at ten. Want me to come and ruin it again?"

"I'm considering hiring someone to kidnap you."

"You'd miss me."

She didn't answer. Which, honestly, was more dangerous than if she had.

📞 [Minji] Incoming Call

Yuna answered, sipping her coffee.

"Yes?"

"Ma'am. I… uh. There's a problem."

"What now."

"A neighbor reported someone singing loudly about sunshine and sparkles. In Korean, Japanese, and what might've been Spanish?"

Yuna turned her head slowly toward Rin, who was now using a spatula as a microphone.

"...I'll handle it," she said, and hung up.

By 9:30, Rin had managed to make actual toast, Yuna had threatened to throw him out twice, and for some reason there was now a Pikachu with a tiny napkin tied around its neck sitting at the table.

"He's part of the family now," Rin said solemnly.

"You need to leave."

"After toast?"

"...Fine."

But when he stood up to go, he walked behind her chair, leaned down, and rested his chin on her shoulder

"Thanks for letting me be human."

She froze.

Then—very lightly—reached up and flicked his forehead.

"Go be human somewhere else."

He grinned.
