Chapter 13 - Demonic Fox Found Dead in Wedding Party. Fox Relatives Sued Groom Because He Sang a Buddhist Scripture During His Karaoke Session.
Immortal—The title of beings who transcended mortality was not for show. Upon reaching this cultivation stage, their fleshly bodies and souls integrated as one. Physical or Qi attacks were ineffective against them.
In addition, their physique could fully self-heal. Destroying their bodies or beheading them wouldn't kill them. Demonic foxes like Yuemei Xie could even regenerate their hearts, internal organs, and lost limbs in seconds.
However, they were not invincible.
Firstly, all monster and demonic species had one common trait—They accumulated Qi in their monster cores, which served as the real heart. By ripping it out, they would lose their primary source of energy, and their regenerative abilities would cease functioning. Though they wouldn't die from losing a monster core, their soul physique would become vulnerable to Qi attacks.
And lastly, some Buddhist techniques were specifically designed to combat divine beasts and demonic monsters.
Fu Tong swallowed a fragment of Yuemei Xie's monster core, and a massive surge of impure demonic energy coursed through him. Meanwhile, Yuemei Xie's Yin Qi within Fu Tong did nothing but gradually nourish the body owner. His dantian swallowed everything like a blackhole, expanding in size.
Had any mortal done the same, their bodies would have exploded from the inside. However, to Fu Tong whose vitality attribute exceeded 9,000, his physical body's strength and durability exceeded a peak immortal's. His internal organs endured harmful energy of a 4th-ranked immortal with ease.
Turning his enemy's Qi into his, Fu Tong recited a Buddhist scripture, which he had learned from the library dream—The result of having 9,999 wisdom attribute.
It was the turn for his 9999 intelligence attribute to showcase its prowess and potential. Purified Qi and stolen Qi from his dantian rushed to his vocal cord, producing a frequency which only demonic foxes could hear. A holy shockwave vibrated the air.
Yuemei Xie's soul shook. Without the monster core, his soul physique became vulnerable to the holy chant. His muscles and internal organs bloated while he screamed in pain. As for his subordinates, they froze on their tracks and closed their ears, screeching and thrashing. Blood gushed out from their ears, eyes, nostrils, and mouths.
One of them recognized the technique. They warned the others.
"DEMONIC DESTRUCTION SUTRA! THIS FOUL HUMAN ART FROM THE BUDDHIST LAND!"
Hearing the warning, all blue-robed foxes fled from the scene in fright. But for Yuemei Xie, who had lost his monster core, he could not move. His bloated muscle and flesh wiggled as though something was trying to emerge through his skin.
Fu Tong paused the chant midway. He turned to Jin Yu.
"Get some umbrellas or erect a wall around this fool. You don't want his rotten meat to trouble the guests."
Catching the hint, Jin Yu widely grinned and snapped her fingers. A transparent dome manifested, trapping Fu Tong and Yuemei Xie inside.
Fu Tong was satisfied. He turned to the giant fox and took another bite of the monster core. While chewing the hard surface of the orb, he continued chanting the sutra, resuming the verses. Gold light beams from his mouth as he recited holy words.
Qi in Fu Tong's throat rapidly depleted as the technique belonged to an immortal monk, whose cultivation strength far exceeded his. Some of Yuemei Xie's Qi within him was also spent. A portion of harmful Qi in his brain, which failed to damage a cell, got sucked into his vocal cord. The evil energy was purified and converted into Yang Qi, which ended up fueling the holy voice.
"S-S-SAVE ME, BROTHER!!" Yuemei Xie looked at his caravan and shouted, begging someone for help.
From a curtained palanquin, a voice boomed.
"ENOUGH!!"
Jin Yu's barrier shattered, and Yuemei Xie's disfigured body vanished. The dying fox reappeared next to a floating palanquin in the caravan.
But it was too late. Yuemei Xie's bloated body erupted, scattering black fluid everywhere. His blood splashed the palanquin while the rest rained upon the city.
A black fox shoved the curtain and peeked outside. This being was not a celestial fox but a demonic fox, its glowing crimson eyes glaring at Fu Tong.
"Shame on thee, Junior Sister Jin Yu. Dost thou join hands with Buddhist monks?!"
Jin Yu smirked and shrugged. "I knowst not what thou uttered. I merely found fine alpha human worthy of carrying his offspring."
"Thou horny mutt!" The mysterious demonic fox bellowed. "Our support shalt cease at this moment! By the authority of Heavenly Emperor's Delegate, thy clan art excommunicated from all demon tribes!"
The palanquin and the caravan disappeared along with the exploded corpse of Yuemei Xie. Not a droplet of blood remained in the city.
Fu Tong looked up and raised his eyebrows. He didn't expect another boss entity to show up here so soon.
'Man… The first chapter's events haven't started yet, but these boss monsters have already provoked fights. What am I gonna do with my life?' He complained in his mind and stopped chanting the sutra.
As soon as he stopped reciting the holy spell, his vocal cords ejected the depleted Qi waste of Yuemei Xie. Fu Tong coughed and vomited monster core fragments and black fluid.
Jin Yu rushed over and touched his neck, but she quickly pulled her hand away.
Inside Fu Tong was massive Yang Qi, which he had converted from Yuemei Xie's monster core. This type of energy was hazardous to her and her race.
Fortunately, Fu Tong didn't own the Qi or bother keeping them. The energy left his body and dantian.
Jin Yu was relieved. She checked his facial expression and asked.
"Are you injured?"
"Nay. Just disappointed I didn't get to kill the other guy."
Fu Tong wiped his mouth and grabbed a jar of wine. After downing a cup of wine and washed his throat, he felt a lot better. He continued.
"The city is no longer safe. We need to relocate before that guy's brother comes back with an army."
Jin Yu nodded, understanding his concern. Everything went according to Fu Tong's prediction—Kill the young, the adult appears for revenge. This chain of hatred and revenge would continue until the entire family tree was wiped out.
However, there was another concern.
The city had been receiving donations from the Yuemei Family and the other clans as their young masters were vying to be her groom. Food, luxurious furniture, tools, and weapons all came from their patronage.
Now that she had chosen a partner, they would eventually cut ties with her or demand the donated items back. Some might even betray them to attempt to capture the city.
Moreover, the Yuemei Family and their allies were their sole trade partners. Cutting ties with them would isolate their clan, and their money would be useless. Instead, their wealth would become harmful to them as immortal clans might use this excommunication pretext as a reason to declare war on them and rob their gold coins.
"I'm so sorry, husband. I should have kept this a secret. I shouldn't have called for a wedding." Jin Yu apologized as she didn't think this through.
Fu Tong sighed and hugged her. He patted her head. "Meh, it doesn't matter. We have to expel those pests eventually. What's the difference if we kick them out now or later?"
"…But we won't have friends to trade or rely on. At this rate, our granary will be empty within a month. I doubt the forest below has enough food to feed 100,000 mouths and keep them happy."
Celestial foxes didn't need food, but life became mundane and boring without it. She was afraid that her people would die from boredom if she failed to procure something to relieve their stress.
Fu Tong fetched a gold coin and put it on her forehead. He laughed.
She frowned. Although they had money, she doubted that anybody would welcome them as a trade partner. She wondered what he was scheming.
"Do you have a plan?"
"What do you think?" Fu Tong played with the gold coin in his hand and asked her. "Do you think the immortals and demon tribes are the only potential trade partners?"
