Chapter 237 - When Thor Meets Hulk in the Arena

"Star-Lord's father… actually evolved from a brain?"

Thor couldn't help but exclaim in astonishment. Even as a god from Asgard, he had never seen such a thing before.

"So… Star-Lord's father isn't some kind of super brain, right?" Tony Stark looked equally dumbfounded.

The universe really was full of absurdities—who would've thought a literal brain could evolve into a god?

"Finally, after millions of years…"

On the screen, Ego continued telling his story to Star-Lord and the others.

"I learned to control the molecules around me. I became smarter, stronger! I kept building—layer after layer."

"Until, finally, I created the very planet you now stand on."

As Ego spoke, the holographic display showed that enormous brain continuously absorbing surrounding molecules, slowly taking shape as a sphere.

That sphere kept expanding, absorbing more matter, layer upon layer—until it became a blood-red planet.

"So Star-Lord, your father… is actually a planet?"

Doctor Strange's voice rose an octave, his disbelief obvious. "You're standing on your father right now?"

"How does a planet even have a child with a human woman?" Doctor Banner was completely thrown off.

A planet producing offspring with a human—this violated every known law of science.

Banner suddenly felt like his entire life's research had been for nothing.

This wasn't just cross-species reproduction—it was cross-object reproduction!

Utterly ridiculous.

"What the hell…"

Even the people watching weren't as stunned as Star-Lord himself.

Wasn't his dad supposed to be a god?And now he's… a ball?

Absolutely insane.

"But I was still unsatisfied. I craved meaning!"

On-screen, Ego's voice deepened.

"I thought—there must be other life out there in the universe. So I set out to find it. I created biological life as I imagined it, down to the smallest detail."

As he spoke, the brain at the planet's core emitted radiant blue energy.

That energy coalesced—forming a human body.

Everyone immediately understood. The "Ego" speaking to them wasn't the real one—it was just an avatar created from the planet's energy.

The one before Star-Lord was just such an avatar.

"So… did you make yourself a little brother?"

Drax the Destroyer suddenly blurted out a brutally direct question.

Everyone watching flinched. Leave it to "Mr. Modesty" to nuke the mood with his wild logic.

To be fair, though, some of them had wondered the same thing. If Ego created a humanoid body… did he really build everything?

That was kind of… disturbing.

"Bro!" Star-Lord snapped, glaring at Drax in exasperation.

"You brain-dead idiot!" Gamora scolded from the side.

Everyone was either groaning or facepalming.

But Ego just chuckled.

"Yes, Drax, I have one—and it works quite well!"

"I even have nerves, a digestive system, and all the rest! I wanted to truly experience being human!"

In short, Star-Lord's dad had created a perfectly functional human body.

All anyone could say was: impressive. Truly next level.

"So I explored the stars and found the life I was searching for. I was no longer alone in this universe."

The image shifted to Ego meeting a woman.

"When did you meet my mother?" Star-Lord asked, looking back at him.

"Not long after," Ego replied, glancing at him warmly. "Meredith was the first to make me understand what love meant. I called her my lily of the water."

"That love, Peter, created you."

The projection showed a pregnant woman—undeniably Peter's mother, with a glowing child inside her.

The screen shifted again.

They were still in the same grand hall, but now only Ego and Star-Lord remained. Gamora, Drax, and Mantis were gone.

"I told you I had an unending desire to seek life," Ego said softly. "But what I didn't tell you was how disappointed I was when I found it."

He paused, searching for words.

"Then I realized… my desire to find other life wasn't about being among them. Peter—I found my purpose."

Ego suddenly extended a finger and touched Star-Lord's forehead.

Star-Lord's eyes flared with starlight—entire galaxies seemed to shimmer inside them.

No one could tell what Ego had shown him, but Star-Lord was visibly shaken—overwhelmed by what he saw.

"I saw… eternity," he whispered in awe.

Ego waved his hand, and countless planets appeared around them, suspended in the air.

"I call it Expansion," he said. "This is my purpose—and now, it's yours too."

"For thousands of years, I've planted thousands of my own seeds across the cosmos. I must fulfill the one true goal of life—growth, propagation, consumption. Until all becomes me."

As he spoke, all the planets above were enveloped by the same blue energy—identical to the one that made up Ego's core.

Gulp.

Everyone watching swallowed hard.

They finally realized—Star-Lord's father wasn't just dangerous. He was extremely dangerous.

Even more dangerous than Thanos.

Thanos merely wanted to wipe out half of life in the universe. Ego?

Ego wanted to devour it all.

To consume every planet—until the entire universe became him.

Another Dormammu in the making.

"One Celestial can't achieve this," Ego continued. "But two… just might."

"My favorite creation has always been grafting my DNA onto other species. I believed that pairing would give me the power needed for Expansion."

The hologram showed Ego embracing all sorts of bizarre alien creatures—images so grotesque they made everyone's skin crawl.

Star-Lord's dad was… astonishingly prolific.

Which also meant—he probably had thousands of half-siblings across the galaxy.

All from different species.

What a "beautifully diverse" family indeed.

"I sent Yondu to bring them all to me," Ego continued, "but they all disappointed me. None carried the Celestial gene—except you, Quill."

"Among all my offspring, only you inherited the light."

"Since my existence began, you are the first to make me truly not alone."

Now everyone understood why Yondu had taken Star-Lord from Earth.

But on-screen, Star-Lord's expression darkened—his joy faltering.

"What's wrong, my son?" Ego asked.

"My friends," Quill said quietly.

"That's your human side, Peter," Ego said. "We've evolved beyond such things."

"But my mother—you said you loved her."

"Of course I loved her. My lily of the water. She sang every song that played on the radio. I returned to Earth three times to see her. I knew if I went a fourth, I'd never leave."

Ego's eyes softened with nostalgia.

"But that would've ended the Expansion—ended my purpose. So I did what I had to do."

"Placing the tumor in her head… broke my heart."

The entire room went silent.

Peter Quill's mother's brain tumor—it was Ego's doing!

Everyone watching was stunned.

They had thought maybe it was a virus, or that her family lied to Peter to protect him.

But no—Ego had actually planted the tumor himself.

Gods… really were terrifying.

Whether Ego truly loved Meredith was now anyone's guess.

He'd visited her multiple times, clearly out of some genuine feeling. But to murder her for his "purpose"? That was unforgivable.

He had lived millions of years—yet couldn't spare a few decades with someone he loved?

Absolutely monstrous.

"What?"

On-screen, Star-Lord's face twisted in utter shock.

The stars in his eyes vanished as he snapped back to reality, unable to process what he'd just heard.

The image froze there.

Star-Lord stood paralyzed, blank with disbelief.

"My biological father… is that thing?"

He felt like his whole life was a cosmic joke.

He was born from that?

A damn interstellar stud horse!

A creature that bred with anything and everything.

That was a god?

God, my ass.

Ego had successfully shattered Star-Lord's faith in the very concept of "Celestials."

"Star-Lord, so you're the son of a planet. What an honor," Thor said, half-mocking. "In all my life, I've never seen a planet give birth before. You've truly broadened my horizons."

"Wonderful," Tony clapped his hands. "Turns out there's another lunatic in the universe as dangerous as Thanos."

He paused, then added, "The only comforting part is—until that maniac finds Star-Lord, the universe is still safe. So, Quill, please… make sure your dad never finds you."

"I'm afraid that's not up to Star-Lord," Strange said grimly.

As much as no one wanted to hear it, he was right.

They had all seen the truth—Ego had seeded thousands of planets to spread his genetic essence. His goal was to consume the universe, and Star-Lord was his only successful heir.

That meant Ego would find him—sooner or later.

And Star-Lord? He couldn't possibly stop a being like Ego.

"There's one more bit of good news," Banner said suddenly. "Ego only found Star-Lord because he heard someone survived holding the Power Stone. That led him to his son. But now—Ronan's dead."

"Ronan's dead?" Star-Lord was shocked. The news blindsided him.

"Yes," Thor nodded casually. "I killed him not long ago."

Star-Lord was dumbfounded.

They had just watched Ronan's power in a previous quiz—and now he was dead already?

That was fast.

"Star-Lord," Captain America said solemnly, "after this quiz, come to Earth. We have a lot to discuss. I know it's your family matter—but it concerns the entire universe."

"Fine," Star-Lord nodded without hesitation this time. "After this, I'll come to Earth."

Ego was way beyond what he could handle.

The so-called "cosmic orb missions" could wait—his family crisis clearly came first.
