Selena opened her eyes to a place that should not exist.
She was no longer on the shattered obsidian platform with the Heir of Silence standing over her, blade poised to deliver the final cut. She was no longer beside Dante's convulsing form, no longer feeling his agony through the bond they shared. Instead, she found herself in a vast chamber that seemed carved from crystallized light, every surface reflecting and refracting until it was impossible to tell where the walls ended and the ceiling began, where floor became mirror and mirror became sky.
At the center of the chamber, rising from the reflective ground like a growth of geometric ice, was a throne.
