Lily: You have a point... but why can't we just go to the hotel for now?
Max: (determined)
(He goes back to Duke.)
Max: Fine.
But you're coming with us.
Duke: What?! No way! (scared)
Max: You're coming with us. (He opens the door and pushes Lily and Duke inside.)
Like every abandoned house, it's full of spider webs, no furniture, broken gates.
The walls are burned, only a few metal frames and utensils left behind.
The hall was once painted lavender — now it's completely black.
The stairs are broken and burnt in places.
Bats flutter overhead, making them crouch down in fear.
Lily: Max, please, let's just go!
Max: We will — once I see what's upstairs. (He pushes them toward the broken staircase.)
(The stairs creak loudly with every step as they climb to the first floor.
They start examining each room but find nothing.)
Lily: Can we go now?
Max: Okay...
(Suddenly, he hears the sound of a woman crying from one of the rooms.)
Max: Wait — did you hear that? (He hands the lock to Duke.)
Lily: What sound? I didn't hear anything! (anxious to leave)
Max: Just a second. (He rushes toward the room.)
(Inside, he finds a woman crouched down, her face hidden by her hair, her sobs full of pain.
Max slowly approaches.)
Max: Ma'am, are you okay? (He calls out several times, then places a hand on her shoulder.)
(The woman immediately falls silent. Lily enters the room — but sees no one.)
Lily: Max, what are you doing?
Max: This woman — (He turns to point at her, but when he looks back, she's gone.)
Lily: What woman?
Max: She was right here! Where did she go?! (panic rising)
Lily: Max, you're tired. Let's just leave now.
(As Max and Lily reach the stairs, they realize Duke is missing.
He has already run outside and is now waiting near the bungalow.)
