The early morning light seeped through the cracked window panes, brushing the walls with pale gold. Dust floated silently in the still air. Auren stirred. His body ached slightly, but the lingering heat from the night before had faded.

His eyes fluttered open slowly, and he instinctively turned to his side.

"…Riven?" he called out.

But the spot next to him on the bed was empty—sheets slightly crumpled, still warm. The scent of him lingered faintly in the room—faint notes of sweat, smoke, and something uniquely his. But he was gone.

Auren sat up sharply. His heart kicked against his ribs.

"Where the hell did you go…"

Suddenly, a faint ding echoed in his mind like a divine chime.

A glowing blue transparent screen burst into view in front of him, flickering with radiant glyphs and digital hums.

A few minutes later, the door creaked open.

Riven stepped in, holding a small paper bag and a couple of warm packages. His face was calm, but there were bags under his eyes — he'd clearly been up early. "I went to the local market," he said, tossing the food on the small table. "Bought some breakfast. You need to eat, Auren."

Auren walked over silently, sat down, and opened one of the warm boxes. Steam rose up, along with the scent of toasted bread and seasoned eggs. He bit into the food, chewing quietly. The silence hung between them like a blade.

Riven sat opposite him and stared for a few seconds, then finally broke the silence.

"You know…" Riven's voice was low, his tone sharp. "Sometimes I think you're more obsessed with fucking women than getting revenge for your mother."

The bite froze in Auren's mouth. He slowly finished chewing, swallowed, and leaned forward.

His eyes turned cold, and a faint black shadow stirred beneath him. The temperature in the room dropped.

"Careful, Riven," Auren said in a voice dark and deadly calm. "Because the next time you speak about my mother with that filthy tongue of yours, I'll fucking sew your lips shut and feed you your own teeth."

He paused, leaning closer, his voice just above a whisper.

"I can chase both — my lust and my revenge — and still have enough energy left to bury every bastard who wronged me. You, on the other hand… you're just a tagalong. Try not to forget your place."

Riven's hands clenched slightly on the map he was about to reveal. But instead of responding, he unrolled it on the table.

"This is the full map of Central," Riven said, trying to shake off the weight of Auren's words. "I bought it to start tracking down your father's last known location. If we want to get anywhere, we need to study this — every district, every hideout, every forbidden zone."

Auren glanced at the map, then raised an eyebrow. "And?"

"We're almost out of money," Riven admitted. "The hotel room, food, this map… I used up most of what we had left. If we don't find a source of income soon—"

Auren leaned back, a crooked smile forming on his lips.

"We're adventurers, Riven. What the hell do we need a job for?" He stood up, cracking his knuckles. "There's an adventurer's guild in every damn city. We take missions, we kill things, we get paid. Simple."

Riven nodded. "Then we head there after breakfast?"

Auren finished the last bite, licked the grease off his fingers, and smirked.

"After breakfast… we hunt."
