Raven and Alara arrived on the second floor of the library. The floor was destroyed with cracked marble pillars rising to the ceiling, shattered glass laying everywhere, and overturned book shelves, creating a labyrinth of makeshift beds and other questionable choices. Raven ajusted her pink AK-203 as she raised ready for combat. Alara followed closely behind her, her own pink rifle ready for use as they scanned their surroundings looking for threats.
Above them Raven's two drones flew in a side by side formation. One hovered on their left, the other on their right.
Alara and Raven walked only a few steps forward when two Raiders ran out from between a pair of bookshelves on their left, they raised their AK-47s to shoot Alara and Raven. But before either man could fire a shot at them. The drone on Raven's left side turned and unleashed two rounds of burst fire.
Pew pew pew pew pew pew.
The sound of six impacts followed.
Thud. Thud. Thud. Thud. Thud. Thud.
Both men dropped their AK-47s and collapsed to the ground dead. Blood mist shot up from the bullet wounds on their chests. As both of their heads revealed a clean third gunshot between their eyes. The air filled with the scent of blood and brain matter.
Alara did not pause to enjoy the drones' kills. As she turned around quickly, the moment Alara heard the sound of boots running up the library steps behind them.
"They're trying to flank," Alara said to Raven.
Alara dropped to one knee, leveling her rifle, and fired at the oncoming Raiders.
Pew pew pew pew.
Three of the four Raiders climbing the stairs dropped dead like flies in a bug zapper. The last person, a female Raider, took the bullet to her stomach and collapsed on the stairs with a scream.
Alara exhaled, annoyed. "Damn it. I still can't land four headshots in a row on moving targets."
The injured woman cried in pain, while holding her bleeding stomach. Her voice yelled up the stairwell at Raven and Alara.
"Help me, you bitches! I'm a woman too! You can't just leave me here to die!"
Alara's expression did not even change as she said. "Try me."
Alara pulled out a grenade from the system space with a pull of the pin she tossed it down the stairs.
Thud. Thud. Thud.
The small metal grenade bounced down the stairs and came to a stop beside the Raider.
The woman's eyes widened in shock. "Shit, come o—"
BOOM.
The explosion tore through the stairwell, destroying the three corpses and female raider collapsing the staircase completely beyond use.
Raven raised an eyebrow at Alara. "Was that really necessary?"
Alara looked over her shoulder at Raven, completely unfazed by the question as she said. "The best way to make sure no one sneaks up behind us again is to destroy the stairs."
Raven nodded her head in agreement. "I can't argue with your logic, Alara. Just make sure to remind me that we are going to destroy this whole when we leave. There are too many bad memories for me here. Too much blood has been shed in this place enough to last both of my lifetimes."
Alara gestured toward Raven's flying drone. "Doesn't your spider drone specialize in stealth and explosives? Send it down to the basement. Then let it destroy the foundation of the building."
Alara continued saying, almost too casually, "Also, send Mighty Mouse down there to check for survivors. If there are any women trapped or chained up down there, they will need our help to escape."
Raven narrowed her eyes as she looked at Alara suspiciously. "Have you been watching those movies I told you not to watch again, Alara? Not every villain stores victims in a basement. That trope is older than this library."
Alara turned her head slowly and gave Raven a silent, serious look.
Raven sighed. "Fine. You're right, Alara. I remember now. They are in the basement in cells."
