Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: Give Me a Reason to Let You Go

Su Zhan walked over and nodded in satisfaction at the unconscious lizard. He thought to himself, 'I didn't use any special abilities, just my physical strength.' Not bad at all!"

"Wake up! Stop pretending to be dead!" Su Zhan said, giving Professor Lizard a few firm kicks until the reptilian giant slowly regained consciousness.

The moment he opened his eyes, Professor Lizard swung his thick, scaled arm at Su Zhan with a roar. Blink, who was watching from the side, couldn't help shouting, "Be careful!"

But Su Zhan didn't flinch. He simply raised his hand and, with a surge of telekinetic power, froze Professor Lizard's movement in mid-swing. The massive, clawed arm halted just inches from Su Zhan's face, unable to move forward no matter how hard Professor Lizard tried.

Panic flashed across Professor Lizard's reptilian features. The veins on his body bulged as he struggled to break free, but Su Zhan could feel only mild resistance—nothing that posed any real threat.

"Big Lizard, you'd better behave yourself, or I won't hesitate to turn you into a roasted lizard," Su Zhan warned calmly.

He raised his other hand and flames burst forth, radiating intense heat through the underground hall. The temperature soared and Professor Lizard stopped resisting immediately. The threat of being burned alive was enough to make him freeze on the spot.

'Who... who are you?' Professor Lizard rasped, his voice hoarse with fear.

'It doesn't matter who I am,' Su Zhan replied. 'What matters is why you're trying to catch mutants.'

'She has the ability to grow bones...' Professor Lizard answered, his eyes darting nervously towards Bones.

Su Zhan immediately understood and sneered. 'No wonder you're not fighting Spider-Man; you've come here to hunt mutants. You saw that she could grow bones, and now you want to study her to see if you can regrow your own arm. You really don't give up, do you?'

'If it were you, you wouldn't give up either,' Professor Lizard shot back bitterly. 'Listen, I don't want to be your enemy. Let me go and I promise not to bother her again.'

"Really? That's a shame, because even if you don't cause her any trouble, I intend to cause you some," said Su Zhan. The flames in his hand flared brighter, fully engulfing Professor Lizard.

The fire burned fiercely, and Professor Lizard screamed and struggled desperately. But Su Zhan's telekinesis held him fast, making escape impossible.

'No… don't… let me go, let me go!' Professor Lizard begged, his voice ragged with terror.

'My name is Su Zhan and I currently work for S.H.I.E.L.D.,' said Su Zhan, his tone icy. 'If I'm not mistaken, you're on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s criminal list. So why should I let you go? Do you think I'm like Spider-Man, catching you and then letting you escape just to catch you again? I'm not interested in playing that endless game of cat and mouse."

Professor Lizard could sense Su Zhan's killing intent. Unlike Spider-Man or others, who would imprison him out of a sense of justice or mercy, Su Zhan radiated a genuine willingness to kill.

'I'm willing to surrender to you! I can do many things for you. I'm a professor; I know technology and I have my own laboratory. I can help you with anything you find inconvenient. I'm willing to be loyal to you! Please, don't kill me..." Professor Lizard pleaded desperately.

"Technology..." Su Zhan paused, considering the offer.

Sensing hope, Professor Lizard quickly added, 'I know a lot about technology and I have my own lab. I can help you with many things. I swear loyalty to you!"

'It all sounds interesting, but why should I trust you?' Su Zhan asked, his gaze sharp.

'You're very strong. I wouldn't dare lie to you! If I did, I wouldn't be able to escape, even if I tried, would I?" Professor Lizard assured him, his desperation clear.

Su Zhan snorted, finally withdrawing the flames and releasing his telekinetic grip.

Professor Lizard slumped to the ground, the faint smell of scorched scales lingering in the air. He looked utterly defeated and humiliated.

'I'll believe you for now, but you'd better prove your worth. I'm not a patient person. Now, get out of here! When I need you, I'll come and find you!" Su Zhan ordered, dismissively waving him away.

Professor Lizard nodded quickly, turned around and left in defeat. Anyone could see how crushed he was. He had come to capture mutants in order to find a cure for his own arm. He failed to catch anyone, lost hope of healing, nearly died, and now had to become someone else's lackey. It was a truly humiliating outcome.

Su Zhan didn't completely trust him, but he wasn't worried about betrayal or trickery. That was the benefit of having overwhelming strength. When you're powerful enough, you don't have to worry about anything else.

"See? Solving problems can be that simple," Su Zhan said, turning to Blink and Bones.

The admiration on their faces was obvious. They hadn't expected such a dangerous situation to be resolved so easily. This proved not only Su Zhan's strength but also inspired them to become stronger themselves.

"Can I... can I follow you?" Bones asked nervously, her eyes shining with hope.

"Of course. I'm building my own team. If you're willing to join, you're welcome!" Su Zhan replied warmly. He didn't know how strong Bones truly was yet, but the more talented allies he had, the better.

He didn't want to become someone else's lackey. It would be a truly humiliating outcome.
