Roy narrowed his eyes. In his perception, Grimmsnarl's Dark-type energy was deeply fused with Dynamax energy, reaching the threshold of Master-level power.

This thought flashed through his mind as Roy raised his right hand without hesitation. The Key Stone shone brightly, and a colorful, leaf-like projection emerged.

In just a split second, Roy chose Metagross among his three strongest Pokémon for Mega Evolution.

Grimmsnarl angrily increased its efforts, trying to break through Mega Metagross's defense.
"As expected," Roy's right hand glowed again. "We're not fighting alone..."
Using his Natural Power, Roy transferred the golden energy torrent from his body toward Blastoise.
Grimmsnarl had Dark and Fairy typing, making it immune to Psychic moves and highly resistant to Ghost moves.
Among his three Z-Crystals, the most suitable for this moment was Icium Z.
"Subzero Slammer!"
In the past, before breaking through to professional level, Z-moves were enough to instantly defeat S1-stage professional-level Pokémon.
Now that Blastoise had reached professional level, the power boost from Z-moves was still tremendously effective.

Its Heavy Metal ability made it extremely effective with contact moves.
Gravity kept accelerating, and Mega Metagross ignited with red flames across its body. It fell from the sky like a real meteor and struck Grimmsnarl directly on the head.
The ice shattered.
Grimmsnarl's body collapsed to the ground, shaking the earth.

A normal-sized Grimmsnarl came into view, unconscious on the ground.
The battle was over.

Electabuzz looked drowsy but was barely holding on.

It looked at the hero of this battle, Metagross, with envy in its eyes.
When Metagross was still a Beldum, Electabuzz could use an electric current to disrupt its magnetism and prevent it from flying.
But now, their positions were completely reversed.
Metagross had become something it had to catch up to.
If Electabuzz was considered a late bloomer who launched a comeback after meeting Roy and became recognized as a unique genius, then Metagross was a quasi-legendary genius before meeting Roy who shone several times brighter afterward - a true chosen one.
"Don't worry," Roy placed his hand on Electabuzz's shoulder. "The transformation you'll receive this time won't be inferior to Metagross's."
"Buzz," Electabuzz nodded expectantly.
Not far away, Lucario secretly sighed.
The competition was intense.
It had to admit that Metagross was stronger now.
Both at the S1 stage, Metagross as a pseudo-legendary Pokémon had higher base stats, and its light-and-heavy combat method was only slightly inferior to Lucario's Extreme Speed technique.
With these factors balancing out, they were roughly equal.
But if Mega Evolution was factored in, Metagross's absolute defense form was too difficult to handle. Even using Close Combat techniques, Lucario couldn't break through its defense.
In a prolonged battle, Lucario felt it would likely lose.
Metagross, who had joined the team last, had now become the strongest member.
Metagross knew this and happily floated back to Roy's side.
What everyone didn't notice was that Blastoise had curiously approached the energy point. Remembering that Roy had once told it that it was the only Pokémon on the team capable of Gigantamax, it immediately smiled and showed a silly, excited expression.
Blastoise was thinking it might try something sneaky.
In a sense, Blastoise, who could simultaneously utilize all three special powers of Mega Evolution, Gigantamax, and Z-moves, was truly the luckiest member of the team.
