Chapter 16 - The Other Side Of Paradise

Wing quickly pointed his gun at Don, aiming his sights before firing. He quickly moved to the side as he shot, narrowly dodging it.

"Damn!" Wing said frustratingly, he knew that Don wasn't hindered by his age when it came to fighting. "That was your only chance," Don said before sprinting at him.

Wing was about to fire another shot before he felt pain surge throughout his body. "Agh!" His body reacted as he felt his body ache. He could see that Don's eyes were lit with a purple flame, staring deep into his own.

Don knew that he could only use his ability sparingly, his old age didn't allow him to use it as much as he had when he was younger. Wing pointed his gun back at him again, "You think that would stop me?"

He fired multiple shots at Don spontaneously while he was submerged in pain. The bullets were inaccurate, fired randomly at Don's general direction.

But they both knew that all of the bullets wouldn't miss.

Wing's eyes shone blue, making all of the bullets curve straight towards Don. "As predictable as ever," He said, jumping back and letting the bullets strike the ground.

"You were never able to curve the bullets fast enough," He went back to sprinting at him. "I expected you to improve while I was gone."

"I didn't come here to be lectured," Wing vented out as he waited for his revolver to reload. "I came here to give an old man a taste of his own medicine!" He shouted out, shooting out another round of bullets.

Don kept running this time however. He jumped towards him, slashing the stalactites around him. As the bullets came closer, Don deflected the falling spikes to hit the bullets.

Wing backed off as he tried to reload, but saw that Don was already in front of him. He swung his sword at Wing, knocking the gun out of his hand. "Crap!" He cussed out, his hand grabbed the knife from his side just in time to meet Don's blade.

Clang!

They clashed blades, Don swung relentlessly as he pressed forward. But with each path his blade took, Wing met it with his own. "You think I'd forget my partner's fighting style?" Wing asked Don.

He summoned his gun back on his free arm, gripping it firmly once it manifested in his hand. "Maybe I would if I was as old as you." Wing said as he pulled out his gun at point-blank range.

Don flashed a smile, "Predictable." He quickly ducked down to avoid the shots and kicked the gun off his hand.

"Not this time," Wing said as he backed off, throwing a knife at Don's head. "Futile." He said as he easily dodged it, immediately chasing Wing again.

Wing pulled out a pistol he hid from him, "Not really." He began firing shots as he continued running away. Don took cover in his blade, watching closely where the bullets went to block them as much as he could.

At this range, he had to focus. There was no room to make a move, he had to stay still as Wing continued to make distance. He aimed his other gun as soon as it manifested.

"Don't blink." He said before shooting with both of his guns, mixing the bullets he could and couldn't control. Don waited for his ammo to run out, he knew that only his revolver could regenerate bullets.

As long as Wing controlled how fast he shot the bullets in his revolver, the next batch of bullets would've already manifested itself in the chamber.

Click, Click.

The sound of an empty magazine could be heard as he tried to continue shooting.

"Hit me!" Wing shouted out as he unloaded the magazine from his gun. A fully loaded magazine then flew from a compartment he had in his back. He swung his gun to catch the magazine while it was in the air to reload it.

Don gripped his sword firmly as Wing began shooting at him again. "Isn't that too stylish for you?" Don asked him, talking casually as if he weren't bothered.

"When we split off, I had to find new ways to fight by myself," Wing said as he continued shooting him. "Ended up finding more and more ways to fill the gap you left."

"Have any other new tricks to show this old dog?" Don asked him. Wing smiled, "Only one way to find out."

Don was stuck defending himself while Wing kept his distance, it made Wing smile confidently. But he knew that with confidence comes weakness.

Don walked back slowly as he kept avoiding the bullets, getting himself close enough to Wing's knife. He stomped on the handle, flinging it up in the air. He then spun around and kicked the handle of the knife, sending it straight towards Wing.

"Really?" Wing complained as he jumped away, he wasn't confident enough to dodge like how Don does. Trying to aim at him again, he choked out in pain. Don's eyes were flaming purple again, staring directly at his.

As Don closed in, Wing knew that there was only one way for him to win. As his old partner, he knew that Don's ability only functions when his target stares at his eyes.

But what good is someone with a gun if they can't see?

After carefully taking note of his surroundings, he closed his eyes. In that moment, the pain cleared away, finally giving him room to think.

He shot his pistol with what he knew, hoping that it would somehow distort Don's movements. He then shot with his revolver, altering its trajectory to narrow down where he would be.

Wing then opened his eyes ready to throw his knife at where he thought Don would be.

But no one was there.

He had a moment of confusion until he felt a sharp pain in his neck. "Looks like old dogs can still learn new tricks" Don told him as he held his blade to his throat.

Wing took a deep breath, "So this is it for me?" He wasn't afraid, he brought himself down here to arrest Don after all. He knew the risks, the moment he decided to join the mission he was prepared for failure.

Don shook his head, "Not quite," He lowered his blade and handed it to Wing. "This is it for me." Wing looked at him confused, he grabbed Don's blade and pointed it to Don.

"Well, I guess you're coming with me then?" He sounded more like he was asking Don instead of telling him. Wing was confused, but went with it. "You know even if you surrender now, your sentence stays the same." Wing clarified with Don.

"You can never erase the sins of a man after all." Don said as a way to agree with him. He held his hands together as Wing got his handcuffs out. "Do these things help keep you asleep at night?" He asked jokingly.

Wing kept a stern face however, making sure that they're firmly locked before walking away

"Follow me."

"Wait, you missed something." Don told him. "This room, it has a secret that even you don't know about yet." He went up to a wall, gesturing for Wing to follow him.

"Did you really think that you knew everything?"

Wing walked up to him, "What do you mean?" Don laughed at his question, "Look at this wall, it's a fake." He knocked at the wall, "You can hear how shallow it is just by listening closely."

Wing went up to the wall and knocked it as well, "No it isn't, stop wasting my time Don."

Don glimpsed behind him, seeing Pheo carry Ryu across the room he was in with Wing.

"No, let me show you. Watch closely." Don got in front of him and reached his hand inside a crevice. "When did you get rid of your handcuffs?" Wing asked him, confused on how he got rid of it so fast.

"The moment you looked away." Don told him as he kept reaching in the crevice. He fiddled his arm there for a while until he pulled it out.

"I… May have the wrong wall." Don said confidently.

Wing sighed, "Okay, we're going back up."

"Hopefully they can accept giving you a minor sentence." He held Don in front of him, pushing him to move forward as they began going back to the staircase.

"It's the other way if you forgot," Don told Wing. He pushed him harder though, "I don't care, we're taking my route here."

Don smiled as he obediently walked with Wing to the exit.
