Chapter 19 - Pain To Be Held

"Stepmum, I don't know what you are talking about. I myself am confused on how Morgan was here yesterday. You told me he was dead, and you said the police confirmed that to be true, but the body wasn't retrieved. That's what you told me, right? Why are you accusing me wrongly of something that's impossible," Jessica replied, her voice stammering as she found it difficult to speak.

"Oooh, so you think I'm joking, huh?" Abigail chuckled with a scoff.

"For ruining my party, I will have no choice but to punish you. From today, Jessica, you won't be staying in the mansion with us anymore. I have arranged a place for you outside. Though it's close to the pig and cattle farm, I just hope it fits your insolent character. So get your things packed right away and move in as I speak, because if you resist and try to protest, I will have no choice but to send you out of the creek residents entirely to the street, where you'll beg, and starve to death."

"But stepmom, this is my father's house, and I have rights over everything here!" Jessica tried to protest, but she received two hefty slaps on her face.

"Shut up! Who gave you such audacity to talk to me in such a manner? Have you gone insane?" Abigail snapped, refusing to make Jessica finish her words, her face smoldering as she spoke.

Jessica held her cheek, tears gushing out from her eyes as she found it difficult to say any more words, her heart racing. The anger kept building inside her, threatening to vent out, but it's no good because it Won't make any difference, other than to make things worse.

"I give you five minutes. Pack up your things and move out to the place which I have prepared for you. And also, don't forget to go with that bastard son of yours. And if you think that person you paid to come ruin my party has got free with the act, then you must be joking, because I will make sure I track him down and get him jailed for good," Abigail said, her voice loud and commanding. Then she walked out of the room.

"What bad have I done to deserve all this from my stepmother," Jessica mumbled in thought then locked the door, cleaning her tearing eyes as she walked to Caspian, who was sleeping. She touched him softly on the hair, then kissed him on the forehead. After that, she went into her wardrobe, then began packing up her belongings as instructed by her stepmother.

Just at exactly five minutes, the door swung open again. A security man stood at the front of the door as he spoke with a commanding tone, "I'm here to move your things out of the mansion."

"Give me a minute, I'm still packing," Jessica responded calmly.

"I have no time to waste, so I can't wait for you any more," the security guy insisted, then began dragging Jessica's things out of the room and flung them out of the mansion's front door.

There's one thing Abigail did after successfully getting what she wanted from Jessica, she made sure she fired all the previous workers, including the securities on the mansion. After that, she employed new ones to replace them, so they had no idea on who Jessica was. All the knew was to follow direct orders from Abigail who had employed them.

"Sorry, I'm just following orders. If I didn't do as ma'am asked, I might lose my job," the security guy spoke out after throwing Jessica's things out of the mansion.

Jessica gently held Caspian by the hand as she woke him up from sleep. "Wake up sweetheart we have to go," she said gently.

"Mum, where are we going?" Caspian asked, with a sleepy eyes.

"We are moving to a new home," Jessica responded with a grin.

"What's wrong with the one we are now," Caspian countered with a question.

"Don't ask too many questions, sweetheart? the new house we are moving to has a lot of toys, so you will enjoy your new home, and will never feel bored," Jessica responded, kissing Caspian on the cheek.

Jessica moved into the house where Abigail had prepared for her. The house was so messy that even a beggar who had nowhere else to stay would choose sleeping on the street over choosing to stay in a place like that.

The wall was punched with holes, cockroaches roam around, like they were having a banquet, entirely everywhere in the house stinks.

"What's this?" Jessica gagged. the smell heating her nose hard, and she could feel herself losing it already, her eyes darting around the room as she got irritated, as if she wanted to throw up.

"Mum, this place stinks," Caspian complained, covering his nose.

"Yes, boy, I know. We will get that fixed soon," Jessica replied, turning to caspian.

Jessica tried her possible best and got the house fixed. At least the place wasn't smelling like before.

It was now nighttime. The noise of cricket filled the room, combined with different insects, which created a disturbing rhythm that made Jessica gasp in frustration.

Jessica sat on her wheelchair, staring at a photo of her dad and mum which the had snapped together when they were still alive.

"Mum, Dad, I wish you were here to see all that has been happening to your girl. I'm in pain," Jessica mumbled to herself, her voice cracking, tears gradually rolling down from her eyes as it dropped on the photo she was staring at.

Just as she was in the heartfelt moment, shedding tears, she had some toot steps outside before a knock sounded on the door.

"Could it be my stepmother disturbing me again," Jessica mumbled before asking aloud.

"Who's that?"

It was already late and midnight. Electricity wasn't even in this new place Jessica was in. She was using a lamp and a candle to reduce the intense darkness.

"It's me, Morgan. Open up," the voice sounded from the door, making Jessica snap, the lamp she was holding falling to the ground.

Hearing Morgan's voice Jessica thought twice about it before rolling on her wheelchair to the door, then peeped through a small hole in the door. When she confirmed it was truly Morgan and not some of her imagination, she opened up. But her hands were shaking, she couldn't let go of the fact that Morgan had died, and all of a sudden his Alife.

"Morgan," Jessica called out calmly, her eyes filled with disbelief, she touched his hands and also tried to stand and feel his face with her hands to confirm if he wasn't just a man in a mask.

"Can I come in," Morgan asked, to which Jessica shook her head vigorously.

"Yes.. yes.. you can," Jessica replied, her voice hastily.

Morgan stepped inside the house, then Jessica shut the door closed.
