Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

Chapter 6

Astrid's POV

Mary closed the distance between us. "Your insolence knows no bounds, does it?" she asked, her voice dripping with disdain.

The maids, who had been packing my things, stopped and watched us with interest. It was like a show for them. A chance to see the Luna, the woman they had once respected, brought down.

"This room belongs to me," I repeated, trying to keep my voice steady. "I've lived here for years. I'm not just going to leave."

And I still needed to clarify things with Leon. But I didn't say it out loud.

"You don't seem to understand," Mary said, her eyes narrowed. "You're not the Luna anymore. Clara is. And she deserves the best room in the pack. Not only that, bug she serves the room that has always been designed for the Luna."

"But I earned this room," I argued, my voice rising. "I worked hard for this pack. I stood by Leon's side. I deserve some respect."

"Respect?" Mary scoffed. "You lost that when you lost Leon. You're nothing now. Just a shadow of your former self."

"I am your Luna." I whispered out.

She scoffed. "Keep telling yourself that. Leon doesn't wnat you and your pathetic self still clings to him."

Her words stung, but I refused to let her see my pain. "This isn't about Leon," I said, trying to sound stronger than I felt. "This is about what's right. This room is mine."

"Right?" Mary laughed. "What's right is that Clara gets what she deserves. And what she deserves is this room."

"This is my room. This has always been mine since I stepped foot into this pack. You don't just expect me to leave..I made changes…it's mine." I whispered the last words out feeling pathetic.

"I earned this from my loyalty to this pack." I added.

"You think loyalty matters?" Mary sneered. "In this pack, power is all that matters. And you don't have any anymore."

Each word she uttered from her mouth was like an arrow piercing my heart. It wasn't confirmed yet. I refused to believe that I had lost my position as Luna.

Our voices echoed through the hallway, drawing the attention of more pack members. A crowd began to gather, their faces a mixture of curiosity and amusement. I felt my cheeks burn with shame. I was making a scene, just like they always said I would. This gave the pack members more to talk about. I should just let this go but I was finding it difficult to accept it. This room had been furnished and renovated by me. It had been abandoned for years before I came into the pack. No one wanted to stay here, but it had been given to me. And I wouldn't part with it.

"Please, Mary," I begged, my voice cracking. "Just let me stay. I don't have anywhere else to go."

"That's not my problem," she said, her eyes cold. "Pack your things and leave. Now."

"I won't," I said, my voice trembling. "This is my home. I'm not going anywhere."

"Is there a problem here?" a soft voice asked.

We both turned to see Clara standing in the doorway, her expression serene. She had a frown plastered on her face as she took in the scene.

"Clara," Mary said, her voice suddenly sweet. "I was just explaining to Astrid that this room is yours now."

Clara frowned. "What's going on?" she asked, looking at me with concern.

"Mary's trying to kick me out," I said, my voice bitter. "She says this room belongs to you now."

Clara's eyes widened. "That's not true," she said, shaking her head. "I don't want to take your room. It's obvious how attached to it you are."

"But Clara," Mary protested, "you're the Luna now. You deserve the best. This room has been renovated for you. The whole building has been renovated just for you."

I did the renovation when I first came into the pack. I did it alone without any help because I was happy to have a place to stay that wasn't leaking. A place I could call mine.

"I don't need the best," Clara said, her voice firm. "I just need a place to sleep. I'm sure there are other rooms available." She turned to me, her eyes filled with sympathy. "Astrid, you can keep this room since you love it so much. I'll find somewhere else."

Her words felt like they had a double meaning buy I didn't think much of it.

"Thank you," I said, my voice choked with emotion. "Thank you, Clara."

"It's no problem," she said, smiling gently. "I understand how attached you must be to this room."

Just when I thought the situation was resolved, a voice boomed from behind us. "What's all the commotion?"

Leon strode into the hallway, his face dark with anger. He looked at me with disgust.

"Astrid," he said, his voice cold. "What are you doing here? Why are you causing trouble?"

"I wasn't causing trouble," I said, my voice trembling. "Mary was trying to kick me out of my room."

"Your room?" Leon scoffed. "This room belongs to Clara now. You need to accept that things have changed."

"But Clara said she doesn't want it," I protested. "She said I could keep it."

Leon gazed at Clara softly. "You're too kind," he said,"Astrid needs to learn that she can't always get what she wants."

He turned back to me, his eyes filled with anger. "Pack your things and get out," he said, his voice low and dangerous. "I don't want to see you in this room again."

The maids, sensing the shift in power, rushed forward and began throwing my belongings out of the room. Dresses, shoes, books – everything I owned was tossed into the hallway like trash.

"Leon, please!" I begged, tears streaming down my face. "Don't do this to me. This is mine. There are other rooms in this building she can have just let me have this."

He ignored me, turning and walking back towards his room.

"Leon!" I called after him, my voice breaking. "Please, listen to me!"

But he didn't stop. He didn't even look back. I tried to run after him but then I saw the maids throwing a precious gift. One I kept with care and so I turned back.

"Stop. I'll move." I said to them with tears streaming down my face.

I turned to Clara whose eyes watched me. There was no expression on her face, I couldn't determine if she was enjoying this or not. She watched everything happen and not once did she step forward to help me.

The maids ignored me and only until everything was thrown out did they leave and the crowd disperse. I gathered my things. They were few. I've never had much to begin with. I came here with few clothes most were thrift I had bought.

Imagine thinking life had taken a turn for the better but it ended up like this. I was still gathering my things when someone approached. I watched as he got down and helped me gather my things.
