Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: The Deal Falls Through

Shen Ming quoted a price.

Lu Fan remained unmoved.

"Your price is almost the same as what Su Yuyan offered," he said.

Su Yuyan could never offer this much.

It seemed like Lu Fan was testing her.

"Mr. Lu, this is my final offer. If we can't agree, then perhaps we should save ourselves the trouble and stop wasting time."

Shen Ming had already heard her younger brother's complaints about Su Yuyan's temper. She knew that he was a hard negotiator, but he wasn't going to break easily. However, Lu Fan was throwing in subtle jabs to push her.

"Negotiating is about give and take, Miss Shen. You can't just give up at the first sign of resistance," Lu Fan said, still trying to gauge her.

Shen Ming responded crisply, "What's your take on my offer, Mr. Lu?"

Just as Lu Fan was about to respond, someone came in and whispered something into his ear. He turned to Shen Ming.

"Is it true?" he asked.

The assistant confirmed.

"Absolutely. The information was leaked by Miss Shen's assistant, Xiao Wu."

Shen Ming's assistant?

Xiao Wu?

In an instant, Lu Fan's attitude shifted entirely. He stood up, no longer interested in continuing the discussion. He straightened his suit and bowed his head.

"Miss Shen, your price is actually 5% above the bottom line I was given. Since you're not serious about negotiating, I think we should end the discussion here. I have other matters to attend to."

Just moments ago, he had been cautious, considering her offer. Now, he dismissed her with a cold look.

Shen Ming froze. Was he aware of their bottom line? Had Xiao Wu sold them out?

If the bottom line was leaked, it could ruin everything. The company would lose its leverage, and no further negotiations could be made. She felt the weight of the situation press down on her.

Frowning, Shen Ming knew that this was going to cause major trouble.

After leaving the event, she tried to contact Xiao Wu, but he was unreachable. In desperation, she even considered going to the police.

What had seemed like a routine business meeting had spiraled into a disaster. Now, she was dealing with an entirely new set of problems.

Meanwhile, Su Yuyan had returned to the old mansion in a rage, accompanied by Guo Feng.

Shen Ming was still trying to figure out what Xiao Wu had been up to all day. She was already planning to find someone who could track him down.

Su Yuyan, whose temper was always bad, had never reacted this angrily before. Even the butler was clearly intimidated.

With a violent motion, Su Yuyan threw a pile of reports onto the coffee table in front of her.

"Idiot."

"Third Young Master…" The butler attempted to speak up.

"Everyone, leave me alone," Su Yuyan snapped.

No one could calm him when he was like this. He turned on Shen Ming, shouting, "What else can you do? You let the low-price offer slip! Huayi's always been on the defensive, and now they're demanding an even higher price, 5% more than your bottom line. If we don't agree, the deal's off. This was your mess!"

Shen Ming looked up, not backing down. "How do you know I was the one who leaked it?"

Su Yuyan slammed his phone onto the table.

"Lu Fan's people confirmed it. The information came from your assistant, Xiao Wu."

Shen Ming's heart sank. This was worse than she'd imagined.

Su Yuyan, furious, yelled, "I've been in business for years, and I've never lost. If we take a hit in this deal, can you make up for the loss?"

He was angry, and Shen Ming's expression turned cold. She was just as upset, though she hid it better.

Before she could speak, Guo Feng intervened, her voice sweet but coaxing.

"Don't be mad, Zhaonan. Shen Ming didn't mean to do it. She hasn't had much experience with big deals. She didn't handle it properly, but she'll learn."

Shen Ming shot Guo Feng a cold look, but the latter seemed not to notice. Guo Feng stood next to Su Yuyan, speaking softly, "Brother, what should we do about the deal now? Can we still move forward? And what about the assessment from you and Mom for me and Shen Ming?"

Su Yuyan scoffed, glancing at Shen Ming sitting silently on the sofa.

"You've got nothing to say, huh?" he mocked.

Shen Ming rubbed her aching forehead. "Not for now."

Beside her, Guo Feng tried to calm her. "Shen Ming, please don't be angry. Apologize to brother. It was an honest mistake…"

Shen Ming stood up. She was taller than Guo Feng by half a head, her presence imposing enough to silence her.
