Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Monster Fight

Ryo, Selena, Seyra, and Ai stood in front of the ancient teleportation monument, its runes inscribed on it glowing with magical light. This was the fastest and safest means of traveling to the land Ryo would rule. Unlike his own teleportation magic, which demanded knowledge of the destination, the monument enabled immediate travel to points marked. On a nod from Ryo, they powered up the monument, disappearing in a blinding flash of light.

The group returned to the center of a wild wilderness. Before them lay a huge open plain, surrounded by thick forest, with a river running through it. The water glistened in the sunlight, clean and untouched by man.

Ai breathed deeply, a smile on her lips. "This is lovely. The air is so clean."

Before anyone could react, Ryo's face grew dark as he switched on Enemy Detection. His keen eyes swept across the treeline, detecting the presence of multiple creatures hiding in the shadows.

"We're not alone," he declared, his tone smooth but firm.

Selena and Seyra grew tense, their hands automatically reaching for their weapons.

"There are monsters in the forest," Ryo went on. "I can kill them all, but if I do, it may disrupt the balance of nature."

Seyra nodded. "That's right. Some animals have important jobs to do in the world. We should only kill the ones that are bad."

Ryo grinned. "Then let's hunt."

A low growl reverberated in the woods, punctuated by leaves crunching. And then, out of nowhere, a pack of Dire Wolves burst forth from the underbrush, their glowing red eyes burning with feral hunger.

Ryo acted without hesitation, disappearing from his place and materializing in mid-air. Blood Weaponry came online, generating scarlet blades between his palms. In one swift motion, he sliced through two wolves before gracefully landing.

Seyra, invoking her Dragon Magic, created an enormous fireball. She flipped her wrist and it exploded, shooting flames surging across the battlefield. The wolves screamed as the fierce heat pushed them away, their bodies burnt black, falling dead.

Selena, invoking her Hemokinesis, manipulated her own blood into lethal projectiles. They flew forth, slicing through several wolves' tough hides, freezing them to the ground.

Ai, not willing to be behind, employed an artifact to make Wind Blades. The sharp gusts sliced through the trees, cutting through all monsters in their way. Even though her spell wasn't as damaging as theirs, it was accurate and reliable.

The fight was intense but short. As the final wolf lay down, Ryo looked around again. "That should suffice," he announced. "I left some which are not hostile."

Selena holstered her sword. "Now that the area is taken care of, we should install a proper defense. Does anyone know of an obstacle that ward off monsters?"

Seyra nodded. "Yes, numerous kingdoms employ such obstacles to keep their citizens safe."

Ryo folded his arms. "The system actually rewarded me with one. It keeps any hostile creatures or people with bad intentions from coming in."

Selena snapped her fingers together. "Perfect! That will make things simpler."

Having dealt with the immediate dangers, they set their minds to the future. "We can begin with the construction of a castle," Selena said. "It will be the center of our country, and from there, we can build the rest of the city's design."

Ryo laughed. "I already have a plan in mind."

Seyra raised an eyebrow. "Oh? You've planned that far ahead?"

He grinned. "In the human world, I used to play a game where I would create and construct whole kingdoms. I've already imagined how I want everything to be."

That evening, Ryo labored hard in his room, drawing out elaborate blueprints of the kingdom and castle. Drawing from his memories in his previous life, he carefully planned a majestic capital with properly laid-out roads, defenses, and necessary buildings. Before dawn broke, his plans were finished. His country's foundation was laid, and soon it would be a reality.
