Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: Shadow Dragon

Ryo rested on the cold, desolate ground, his chest heaving and falling as he finally had a moment of relief. The system had given him an hour to rest, and he ensured that he took full use of it. His body, although still sore from the last tests, had grown accustomed to the constant torture. He was no longer the same individual who had initially entered this hellish training. He had evolved into something else—something more powerful.

Just as the countdown reached zero, a haunting voice reverberated in his mind.

[Phase 7: Defeat the Shadow Dragon]

Ryo's fists clenched, his lips twisting into an evil grin. The Shadow Dragon… the monster that had killed him more than 500 times. Every time he died was painful, every time he resurrected had filled him with more fury. But now, there were no limitations. This time, he was going to let it suffer.

A tremor shook the battlefield as the skies darkened. A black mist coiled and slithered through the air, and from the abyss, the Shadow Dragon emerged. Its massive wings cast an overwhelming shadow over the land, its glowing crimson eyes locked onto Ryo with an almost amused gaze. It remembered him. It relished in his past suffering.

[System Announcement: All abilities are unrestricted. Use everything at your disposal. Begin.]

Ryo's eyes sparkled. "About damn time."

He activated Paradox Physique in a moment, his muscles coiling as raw power flooded his body. His Draconic Eyes refined, dissecting every motion of the dragon, every wave of mana around it. Fire ignited along his arms as he integrated Bloodflame Mastery with Elemental Manipulation, combining fire, lightning, and shadows into an unstable tempest of devastation.

The dragon let out a roar, unleashing a wave of dark energy so thick that the earth under Ryo creaked. But he didn't bat an eye. With a snap of his wrist, he retaliated with Void Manipulation, taking the attack and sending it back at the creature.

The blast had shockwaves resonating within the air, but the dragon hardly stumbled. It charged forward at him with spine-chilling speed, with claws sheathed in abyssal fire. Ryo teleported in the nick of time, materializing over the head of the dragon.

"Not this time, bastard!"

He raised his arm, calling forth spears of blood-stained ice, firing them at the beast's head. The dragon contorted its body in midair, dodging with otherworldly quickness before counterattacking with a breath assault—a wave of acidic darkness that seemed to engulf everything in its path.

Ryo crossed his arms over his chest, creating a barrier with Bloodscale Armor, enhancing it with Draconic Blood Sovereign. The collision propelled him across the battlefield, but he was unscathed. A smile pulled at his lips.

"Is that all?" he sneered before dematerializing from existence.

He surfaced behind the dragon and drove his fist, his hand covered with Blood Weaponry, directly into its spine. The dragon cried out in agony, its shape contorting briefly. Ryo took advantage of the window of opportunity, executing Blood Puppetry, trying to seize control over its movements. The body of the dragon moved under his influence, but thereafter it broke away, letting loose a deafening roar that rent the hold.

Shadows tendrils burst from its body, binding around Ryo's limbs and dragging him toward the floor. But he was ready. A blast of Sanguine Dragon's Wrath, he released a scarlet explosion, destroying the bonds.

The dragon counterattacked by plummeting toward him at top speed, intent on crushing him under its massive body. Ryo's Abyssal Dragon Wings expanded, and he blasted upward, colliding with the dragon head-on. He turned on Dragonification, his body transforming—his hands claws, his skin partially sheathed in shimmering scales. His power exploded beyond bounds as he punched the dragon's jaw, sending it careening toward the earth.

The instant it fell, Ryo followed through. He threw out his hand, calling on Bloodflame Spear, its energy coursing with unimaginable strength. A battle cry and he sent it directly into the dragon's breast.

The effect caused a colossal explosion, sending waves of energy coursing across the battlefield. The Shadow Dragon screamed in pain, black fire engulfing its body from the inside out. It gave one last, angry roar before its body started to break down into the void.

Ryo floated in mid-air, observing the beast die with satisfaction. His breathing was labored, but a feeling of vindication swept over him. He had finally triumphed.

[Phase 7 Complete.]

The voice of the system rang out once more.

[Continue to next phases?]

Ryo didn't think. "Hell no!"

[Okay. Back to the real world. Computing rewards for completion of Phase 7 and first-time advanced training.

A flash of light surrounded him, and in an instant, he sensed reality altering. When he opened his eyes, he was back. The real world.

Time had hardly passed since he departed.].

Upon his return, Ryo had murdered some students after torturing them.
