Chapter 121 - CHAPTER 127

In Konoha, the entanglement between village interests and individual clans is highly complex. Each clan, depending on its size and influence, has its own political standing and internal priorities. The mid-sized clans like the Nara, Yamanaka, and Akimichi—collectively known as the Ino–Shika–Chō trio—are closely tied to the village hierarchy and serve as the backbone of the shinobi forces. Their loyalty to the Hokage line is unwavering. Members from these clans can be found throughout major Konoha institutions: in the ANBU, the Military Police (formerly), the main forces, and even within the secretive Foundation (Root) once led by Shimura Danzō.

Even the Sarutobi clan, to which the Third Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi belongs, is part of this tier. Though not as tightly organized or politically visible as the Ino–Shika–Chō trio, their influence stems from Hiruzen's legacy and his position as the Hokage rather than from any large-scale clan operations.

Other established clans such as the Aburame (masters of insects), Inuzuka (canine partners), and even the Kurama clan (illusion specialists), as well as lesser-known clans like the Tatami clan, fall into this tier. These families generally support the Hokage-led administration but have less sway compared to the more politically entrenched clans.

Then there are the giants: the Senju and Uchiha clans, historically the two most powerful shinobi families, both descended from the sons of the Sage of Six Paths—Asura and Indra, respectively. The Senju inherited powerful life force and vitality, while the Uchiha bore the Sharingan and prodigious chakra control.

The founding of Konohagakure was a joint effort between Senju Hashirama and Uchiha Madara. Their goal was to end the era of constant war and form a stable shinobi village. Hashirama became the First Hokage, laying the foundation for the Hokage lineage to remain predominantly under the Senju's ideological legacy. After Tobirama Senju, the Second Hokage, the Senju family gradually merged into the general population, and their distinct clan structure faded.

The Uchiha, meanwhile, were assigned control of the Konoha Military Police—a decision made by Tobirama that, while ostensibly honoring them, also isolated the clan and placed them under heavy surveillance. Over time, resentment grew as the Hokage title continued to be passed down not just by merit, but through a tight-knit teacher-student lineage rooted in the Senju's ideological descendants: Hiruzen (Third) was Tobirama's student, Minato Namikaze (Fourth) was Hiruzen's student, and Tsunade (Fifth) was also Hiruzen's student and Hashirama's granddaughter. Kakashi (Sixth) was Minato's student, and Naruto Uzumaki (Seventh) was Kakashi's student—and the son of Minato.

Despite the Uchiha clan's raw power and formidable shinobi like Uchiha Kagami (Tobirama's student), and later Shisui, Fugaku, and Itachi, no Uchiha was ever seriously considered for Hokage. Fugaku, once a skilled shinobi and head of the clan, is rumored to have awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan, yet his political prospects were buried under suspicion and fear.

As time passed, the Uchiha fell deeper into alienation. Shisui Uchiha, known for his Kotoamatsukami genjutsu, attempted to prevent a coup, only to die under mysterious circumstances. Itachi, another prodigy, became the sacrificial agent of Danzō and the higher-ups, massacring his clan under orders to prevent civil war. Obito Uchiha, presumed dead, was twisted into Madara's pawn and became one of the catalysts for the Fourth Great Ninja War. And Sasuke Uchiha, the last true heir of the clan, was orphaned and left to seek vengeance, manipulated from every angle.

The destruction of the Uchiha marked a major shift in clan politics. With the Uchiha gone, the Hyūga clan—known for their Byakugan and Gentle Fist—became Konoha's most prominent noble family. But this "honor" came at a cost. The internal division between the Hyūga main family and branch family had long fostered internal tension. Years earlier, when a Kumogakure envoy attempted to kidnap Hinata Hyūga, the ensuing political cover-up forced Hiashi Hyūga, the clan head, to send his twin brother Hizashi to die in his place. This revealed how disposable the clan could be in the eyes of the village leadership when it came to preserving diplomacy.

Hiashi, outwardly proud and stoic, bore the internal trauma of that sacrifice. After the Uchiha were purged, the Hyūga found themselves in the spotlight—and under pressure. Hiashi had no choice but to integrate more deeply with the village, even sending his daughter Hinata to the Academy, despite the clan's tradition of internal training. It was both a political necessity and a message: the Hyūga would not defy Konoha.

Yet the clan's pride never fully yielded. They remained loyal, but wary. The village's leadership, now largely composed of shinobi from civilian or minor family backgrounds, continued to clash with the traditionalist values of the major clans. Leaders like Shimura Danzō, through Root, actively sought to erode the influence of the old noble clans, believing that the Hokage's authority should rest on merit and centralized control—not bloodlines.

The truth is, despite talk of unity, Konoha has always been divided between two forces: the ruling ideology of the Hokage and his loyalist factions, composed of mid-sized clans and civilians; and the great clans, who held ancient traditions, unique abilities, and long-standing legacies. As of now, with the Uchiha gone and the Hyūga treading carefully, the game of interests has only become more discreet—but no less intense.

Hiashi Hyūga had once hoped the storm would pass. But then came that day, the day he saw the power of the Rinnegan with his own eyes—an eye that surpassed even the Byakugan in perception. And suddenly, he realized:

"Genius… doesn't just belong to your side."

The future wasn't just about survival. It was about who would reshape the ninja world.

Meanwhile…

Mizuki paced impatiently, anxious about his injuries and whether Konoha's ANBU would come asking about the incident. But instead of masked operatives, his fiancée, Tsubaki, arrived first—carrying a bag of ingredients and worry on her face.

"You're injured again?" she asked, inspecting his bandaged chest and shoulder. "Did you use the omnipotent potion?"

"It wasn't anything serious," Mizuki replied, trying to smile. "Didn't I come back in one piece?"

But Tsubaki wasn't convinced. Her fingers brushed against Mizuki's hair—now noticeably paler.

"It's changed again," she said quietly. "Just like last time."

Mizuki sighed. He had hoped to downplay the side effects. His silver-white hair, once sharp and bright, was now dull and washed out—almost lifeless. A sign of cellular overexertion. A toll paid for survival.

"I'll be fine, Xiao Chun. It'll be resolved soon."

Tsubaki didn't press further. But she shared good news: the chakra separation experiment had borne fruit.

"The purple-black chakra you gave me—something's off. It split into five distinct types of energy," she said. "More than the usual physical and spiritual energies. It's… unstable."

"Five?" Mizuki blinked. "That's beyond even Yin–Yang separation. Did natural energy interfere… or something worse?"

Perhaps the cursed seal's influence? He couldn't be sure. But now wasn't the time to get distracted. His clone had been discovered, and the backup vessel—the second Jinchūriki clone—wasn't ready.

"I'll check when things stabilize," Mizuki muttered. "Too dangerous right now."

"Understood," Tsubaki nodded. "Also… we preserved the original cell samples you asked for."

"Good." He nodded solemnly.

Cellular degradation had already set in. Subsequent clones lacked vitality, even when infused with the omnipotent potion. Without prime Uchiha cells—especially from someone like Sasuke—any further attempt to awaken the Rinnegan or evolve ocular powers would collapse the subject before results could manifest.

"We'll need to guard the lab closely," Mizuki said. "They'll come for the potion… for the research. But your safety comes first. Promise me."

"I promise," Tsubaki said firmly. "But you take care of yourself too."

They were past the point of secrecy or pretense. In this war of knowledge and bloodlines, trust was their only real anchor. .
