CHAPTER 80
"No. It's too risky."
The journey to Rick's camp passed in tense silence. Emerald kept her expression neutral, her hands folded in her lap as they drove through the dense forest.
Her plan was simple enough: once Rick let his guard down, she would slip something into his drink to incapacitate him. It would buy her the time she needed to execute the plan.
But as they arrived at the sprawling military camp, her first assumption proved wrong.
Rick exited the car and helped her out, his hands lingering on her waist longer than necessary. Then, instead of immediately whisking her away to his tent as she'd expected, he pressed a kiss to her forehead and gestured toward a waiting maid
Emerald's stomach dropped, but she kept her face composed. "Wait," she called, stopping the maid mid-step. "Rick, what about meals? I'm starving after the journey."
Rick nodded toward the maid without even looking back at Emerald. "Handle it."
