Next day—
My eyes open slowly.
Jiang is lying beside me, one arm thrown over the pillow, hair a mess, breathing steady and warm. Just looking at him should make me feel calm.
Instead, my body feels… heavy. Like I ran a marathon in my sleep.
Maybe I stressed too much last night.
Over money. Over houses. Over things people like me aren't supposed to think about.
I stare at the ceiling, blinking.
Something feels off.
There's this faint tug in my chest, like I forgot to lock the door or left the stove on. Important. Very important. But when I try to grab the thought, it slips right through my fingers.
What was it?
I frown slightly, pressing my lips together. My head aches, dull and slow.
…Never mind.
If it were that serious, I'd remember, right?
I turn my head and look at Jiang again. His lashes flutter once, mouth mumbling something I can't catch. I let out a quiet breath and shift closer without thinking.
For now, this is enough.
Still…
