Actually, the reason for not developing southward temporarily is that the southern gulf is an important waterway. Mombasa Island divides Mombasa Bay into two parts. The southern port is wide and deep, and building a bridge would greatly weaken the shipping conditions of Mombasa Port, whereas there are no such concerns for the north and west.

The development path of Mombasa in a previous life was also like this, with bridges built connecting Mombasa Island and the northern and western lands.
