Chapter 67 - In Search of Truth - Part II

"It's gone to hell, Alice!"

Alice's door was kicked open by Lucy. She burst in, frantic, swearing nonstop, shouting that Vector had been arrested and there was no way out. She cursed the woman who had accused him, calling her a "tramp" and other cruel names. Alice, who had been watching TV while nursing her baby, stayed silent, eyes wide open, trying to grasp what was happening.

Still holding the baby, Alice asked what they would do now. Lucy explained that Skyler had asked Vector's sister to visit him in prison. Alice was shocked; she had no idea Vector had a sister.

At the prison, a young woman wearing delicate gloves held a police officer's hand, her violet eyes shining through her glasses. She begged to see her brother. The man, captivated by her kindness, looked away in embarrassment, promising to try.

In solitary confinement, Vector sat in silence, staring at the stars through the tiny window in his cell. The door burst open and a guard announced that he had a visitor: Sybenkiosk Mariane.

The name echoed in his mind. It wasn't just anyone, it was his sister.

But she had been dead for a long time.

As he walked toward the visiting room, other inmates threw hostile looks at him, muttering about how they would make him suffer. When he reached the table divided by a glass wall, his eyes widened. The long dress and sweet smile could have fooled anyone. But the voice on the phone was male, full of frustration and determination. It was Skyler, in disguise, complaining about the lipstick and the balloons that mimicked breasts, but admitting that the disguise worked.

Controlling his anger, Vector asked why Skyler had come and why the disguise was necessary. Skyler explained, switching to a feminine voice whenever a guard approached, that it had to be done. He also asked how Vector had been caught, since the last report said he was trying to become a hunter.

Vector summarized the events. When he arrived at a local agency, the accuser presented new evidence, including his fingerprint. He was barred from applying as a hunter, dragged into court, and condemned to that cell. Skyler absorbed the details and promised to try to get him out, but warned that he would have to defend himself, since no lawyer would help him because of his financial situation and criminal record.

Vector asked if he would be able to defend himself. Still in a convincing female tone, Skyler admitted it would be difficult, but said he trusted him.

He knew Vector was a good man and didn't deserve such a fate.

Unable to express his gratitude, Vector smiled. He recognized Skyler as a true friend, someone he could trust to pursue the truth that was so desperately needed. When the visit ended, the guard escorted him back to solitary, and Skyler said goodbye with an elegant wave, thanking the staff.

Outside the prison, Skyler removed the dress and the balloons, revealing casual clothes: black pants with a "skirt" made of blades, and a dress shirt. He wiped off the lipstick, mumbling about Mary's distraction in forgetting her clothes at the mansion, and walked through the dark streets of NeonyRain.

At the apartment, Lucy was asleep on the couch, exhausted, while Flowey rested against Alice's chest. Alice kept her eyes on the television, her expression anxious. The journalist reported that the Inférius around NeonyRain was unstable. Scientists from Libretãnhya warned that the spherical portal might expand. Civilians were advised to stay home until the situation stabilized.

The door opened suddenly. Skyler walked in. Annoyed, Alice asked how he always managed to enter so easily. He showed her the keys she herself had given him. Alice wanted to know what the mission was. Skyler sat down between her and Lucy and explained that they would have to seek answers on their own, without him.

Now awake, Lucy looked at him suspiciously. Skyler explained that he needed to take care of urgent matters, but that he would protect both of them, look after Flowey, and cover a sum of Lynes. The two refused, saying they weren't doing this for money, but for Vector.

Crossing his arms, Skyler smiled. Vector truly had the best friends any man could ask for.

On the horizon, before the city and the portal that had begun to expand, a horned silhouette emerged from the Inférius, slowly walking toward NeonyRain.

What is this being? No one knows yet.
