Adina woke up to heat.
She didn't even realize when she slept off, if not for the scorching heat plastered to her back. She blinked groggily, her body coated in sweat. It had only been an hour since she was last awake. She passed out seconds after her breathing settled, not bothering to clean up.
She turned and froze. Thorne was right behind her, chest bare, body rigid. His skin steamed like he was being cooked from the inside. His eyes were shut tight like he was having a nightmare.
"Thorne?" Adina whispered, sitting up. "Thorne… are you okay?"
There was no response; he only twitched slightly.
Adina's brows furrowed. She reached out slowly, her hand brushing against his forehead. His skin was burning. She frowned, worried, and went to shake him gently.
"Thorne," she called out again.
Suddenly his eyes shot open, his gaze locked on hers. It wasn't their usual golden orbs but instead they were pitch black.
