Hearing this, Alka looked at the Brass Arm beside him. He shook his head. "I don't know. The Holy Sword told me to burn it, so I did."
At the time, holding the sword, he hadn't actually thought of using its flames to burn anything. But as mentioned before, when one wields the sword, the sword itself teaches how to strike. So, Alka had simply struck, letting the flames engulf it.
The subsequent daze and receiving another revelation from the Holy Mother confirmed that this was the action She wanted him to take. And indeed, they had acquired a Holy Artifact, although it was unclear whose it was.
