Chapter 5 - Opening a restaurant

The next morning , several police vehicles were parked outside the Gambino estate which was barricaded with police tapes and police officers.

Soon two black government SUVs arrived at the scene.

Special agent Emilia Barnes had arrived at the scene with her team to inspect the scene.

" Who is in charge here?" Emilia asked, and soon a detective came and introduced herself to Emilia before walking her through the scene .

" Seems like a mob war , don't it ." Emilia said.

A forensic analyst who was in the vicinity chimed in,

" Not a war but a massacre or assassination."

He then pointed to area around one of the bodies,

" As you can see, there is no shell casings from the victims weapons, this meant that he had no chance to even raise his weapon."

Emilia then asked the lead detective if there were any suspects.

" My only suspect is Don Fergucio , didn't Don Gambino make an attempt on his life last week."

When Emilia heard her reply, her mind automatically flashed to John's face but she immediately dispelled the idea that he would be capable of this carnage.

Soon word of Gambino's fall spread across the news , sending tremors across the criminal syndicates of New York . Gambino had fallen and any one who could take control of their business would become on e of the rulers of new York.

John however continued with his daily routine as if nothing has happened, he knew that even as unlikely as it was , a single deviation from his routine was bound to bring up questions, he always assumed that someone was watching him so he had to be on his best behavior.

That Monday evening asJohn stepped out of the gym , he saw Don Fergucios associate by the blacked out SUV. He already knew drill so he entered the car and was driven to meet him at the first place they had met before.

" Johny my boy, looks like I owe you another favor." Elias said as he firmly shook John's hand.

" Why am I here Don Fergucio?" John asked.

" I don't know where you learnt to do what you do and honestly I don't care , all I want is for you to join me and I would make you an underboss immediately."

John chuckled a little before replying, " I am not thinking of engaging in your kind of work for now but when I'm ready I'll give you a call." John replied.

Soon he was let go and he made his way back home.

After a month of laying low, John put up his family home up for sale and moved to New York where he rented and furnished a two bedroom apartment in the Bronx. One of the rooms was used as a temporary office where he set up his computer systems.

He also created a company called BMX holdings, opening bank accounts in its name and transferring one hundred thousand dollars into it .

He needed a way to clean the money he stolen from the Gambino's without attracting attention.

The money after counting was about $250 million with some change and the gold and diamonds had not yet been appraised. John was very happy to encounter the Gambino family because if not for them he could have been cracking his brain to come up with ways to make money. But now he had to come up with ways to spend the money safely. In his mind , this was a beautiful problem that should be embraced by anyone.

The next thing he did was to find a space for a restaurant . After searching the internet for some time he came across a warehouse style building that used to be a nightclub before the owner put it up for sale/rent.

Later that evening he met up with the realtor at the location which was also in the Bronx and after inspection he asked for the price which turned out to be about $1.6 million for sale and $110000 to rent yearly.

John decided to buy the building and asked if he could pay cash which the realtor stunned as he was readily agreed and soon John signed the transfer documents under the name of BMX holdings.

Later the realtor put him in contact with a construction company that were to deal with the renovation of the area .

He also deligently went around obtaining permits for the renovation, permits to open a restaurant, permits to gather a large congregation, etc . And by the time renovation was done he had spent close to $250000 added to the cost of buying the building he had spent $1.85 million.

The next thing he did was to get debit and credit card readers to enable smooth payments for customers. He also ordered for furniture (i.e tables and chairs) for the restaurant.

He then got cooking equipment like stoves , ovens , grills, pots , pans and spoons, he also got different refrigerators and an industrial walk-in freezer and then finally the place was complete. The only thing remaining were the staff and customers.

The first people he needed to hire were managers and an accountant .

Within a week he had hired two managers that would handle the restaurant. Their names were Patricia and James.

The restaurants goal was to serve different foods from all over the world while giving customers the fine dining experience. So the managers were tasked with hiring chefs who had a wide range of experience in preparing dishes from all over the world. They were also given leeway in hiring the rest of the staff.

The restaurant was to be open from 6 Am to 10 pm so the workers and managers needed to work in shifts. The restaurant was to serve breakfast, brunch , lunch and dinner at all times. John wanted this restaurant to be a symbol of consistency, a place where anyone could come to eat.

As for marketing the restaurant John reached out to internet media and influencers to help promote the opening of the restaurant.

On the day of the opening, John was in for the shock of his life as the place was soon at capacity. People who felt nostalgic about their home countries came to the restaurant to eat food that reminded them of home.

Soon Imperial kitchen (yes that's the name of the restaurant) was all anyone could talk about. People who wanted to impress their first dates , propose to their girlfriends , spoil their wife or close business deals flocked to the imperial kitchen.

The rich customers came there to feel like regular people while the regular people came there to feel important.

Within the first month, after subtracting the cost of paying wages, maintenance, food stuffs and taxes his income came in at approximately $315000 of clean money .

But John needed more, he wanted to clean up all those cash as soon as possible because if he was caught his life as he knew it would be over.
