After a weekend break, the City Committee Building ushered in the first working day. As soon as one stepped into the building, for some reason, the heart began to sink, as if a boulder was pressing against the chest, making it difficult to breathe. Some people even started to habitually glance around upon entering the building, searching for the source of this unanticipated pressure.
However, for some people, nothing had changed. They continued their usual work pace, perhaps because they were thick-skinned, or maybe they had gotten used to living a life of ignoring disturbances. Yet their expressions remained numb.
