Upon hearing Xiaofan say something was amiss, Liu Peng and another colleague laughed even louder, but Li San, who was familiar with Xiaofan, didn't smile at all.
He understood Xiaofan. If he hadn't noticed something, he wouldn't have meddled to check it out.
"What's wrong here?" Li San asked cheerfully after Liu Peng had finished laughing.
"The smell of cigarettes, although faint, is coming down from upstairs, as is the cool air from the air conditioning. Of course, it could be that woman smoking and not caring about the electric bill. But most importantly, I think I heard some noise from upstairs. In such a clean building, there shouldn't be rats, right?"
"Hey, now that you mention it, I did hear a faint noise from the ceiling and the sound of running water," Li San added.
Their hearing had become more sensitive through the opening of the Eight Extraordinary Meridians, so they could more keenly detect disturbances that ordinary people wouldn't notice.
