Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Unplanned result

Jenny stood at the bathroom mirror, just staring at her reflection, her hand resting on her stomach as if to steady the racing thoughts in her head. The pregnancy test, lying on the edge of the sink, was the most scariest feeling she has ever felt, and absurd thing she'd ever seen in her life. Two bright pink lines was starring right back at her in accusation, confirming what she had feared.

She was pregnant...

Her fingers trembling as she was picking up the test again, staring at the results as if the lines might disappear or change, maybe she wasn't seeing clearly. But they didn't. It was her new reality.

The noise outside the bathroom felt distant, and muted. Everything felt so surreal. Just a month ago, she had been at her happiest moments and satisfied lifestyle, wearing that sparkling dress and laughing with Paul Bryan, not thinking for a moment that a single night of pleasure and intimacy would change her life forever.

But here she was. A woman who thought she had her life all planned out, always been careful, always been in control of her life, finding herself faced with an unplanned pregnancy.

Jenny leaned against the bathroom wall, taking a deep breath, trying to put thoughts together. She had been cautious—hell, she'd been a very meticulous person. But somewhere in the blur of a night filled with champagne, sweet feelings, Paul's charm, and too much laughter, the safety and precautions she thought were foolproof had failed her woefully.

She thought back to that night—how easy it had all seemed. A simple house tour and conversation turned into a shared moment of connection, then followed by an impulsive decision that, which didn't seem like a big deal at that time. The chemistry between them had been undeniable, but now that spark had become an ember, burning hotter than she ever imagined.

Paul Bryan, billionaire, Mafia, CEO, and the last person she could imagine having a child with.

The thought of telling him made her stomach twist, and grumble. What would he say? Would he even care? After all, they had been nothing more than strangers getting to know each other better, who had shared an evening. Neither was she some high-society woman he could keep as his mistress. And she certainly wasn't the type to raise a child all by herself.

Jenny had no idea on what she was supposed to do.

Her phone buzzed, and she quickly snapped out of her endless thoughts, glancing at the screen. It was a text message from her best friend, who's also her course mate, Elena.

Elena: "How are you doing, jenny? You ok?"

Jenny bit her lip, contemplating on how to answer. She wanted to tell Elena what was going on, wanted to pour out the overwhelming emotions, but what could she say? She hadn't even figured it out herself, it was a dilemma she can't run away from.

Instead, she typed back a simple and brief response:

"I'm fine. Just need some time to think and collect my thoughts."

She tossed the phone on the cupboard, then sat down on the floor, her knees pulled up to her chest. She could feel the strong rush of emotions and that of decision pressing on her chest, suffocating her. What was she supposed to do next? How could she even tell Paul? The idea seemed impossible. He is a billionaire mafia businessman— feared by many and probably used to been told such, definitely lots of women trying to trap him with pregnancy.

Her mind drifted back to the night they had spent together. The way he had smiled at her and the words of assurance he had told her, his voice smooth and confident. She remembered how special and comfortable she had felt with him, something that was rare for her. She wasn't the type to let her guard down, but with him, it had been different. She had let herself flow with the emotions.

Now, she had to face the outcome of that one night.

Paul Bryan.

The name echoed continuously in her mind, and her chest tightened again. He was a man who can't be forced to take responsibility for anything unless it pleased him. He probably wouldn't care about this pregnancy. Or maybe he would? He wasn't the kind of person to shy away from something that could tarnish his reputation, the family lineage is not to be toyed with, and a public scandal involving him and unplanned pregnancy would certainly do that.

But would that be enough reason to force him into a situation he didn't want to commit to?

Jenny stood up quickly, pacing around the small bathroom. She cant keep this all to herself, She needed to take a stand. If she had learned anything about life, it would be heaven helped those who helps themselves.

She grabbed her phone again, letting out a deep breath, she scrolled through her contacts until she found his name. staring at the phone screen, her thumb hovering over the message box. What should I type? "Hey, I'm pregnant, and the baby is yours"? No. That sounded ridiculous.

Instead, she typed out a short and simple sentence:

"Paul, I need to see or speak with you. It's urgent. Please call me as soon as you see this message."

She immediately hit send before she could change her mind, immediately fear gripped her and she regretted it. What was she doing? She was still getting to know him, she didn't even know if he would care. What if he didn't respond?

Her phone buzzed in her hand almost immediately. She stared at it in disbelief, her heart skipping a beat. Paul was calling .

Taking a deep breath, she answered. "Hello?"

"Is everything okay, Jenny?" His voice was smooth and calm. Although there was an edge to it that suggested he knew something serious was about to be discussed.

She opened her mouth, but couldn't let out the words. It was like she had forgotten how to speak. Finally, she managed to let out, "I—I'm pregnant."

There was a long silence on the other end.

"You are Pregnant?" he repeated, his tone guarded. "Are you sure?"

"Yes," she said quickly. "I'm sure, I had a test done to confirm."

Paul let out a quiet sigh. "When will you be available, I need to see you? We need to talk."

Jenny swallowed hard. "I'm not sure when... but... Hopefully soon. I just needed to let you know."

Another long pause and quietness, then he said, in a voice that was calm and soft, "I'll take care of everything, Jenny. We'll figure this out and have it sorted."

Heavy with the thoughts and promise of what was to come. As the call ended, Jenny felt a mixture of relief and uncertainty. She had just told him, therefore there was no turning back the hands of time now.
