Chapter 59 - Déjà vu (ii)

EVE'S POV:

But then another voice, quieter, slipped in. "Then why do you know this? Why does his mouth feel like déjà vu? Why does your body tremble like it remembers something you don't?"

Because I did. Somewhere deep, in a place my conscious mind couldn't reach, I knew this kiss. Not Marcus—not the Deputy towering over me now—but something older. Someone who had kissed me like this before. But where and when?

"Tell me you still remember me," he growled against my mouth, voice thick with hunger.

My mind reeled. Remember him? Remember what? I had never — not with him, not here, not anywhere. And yet…

My body betrayed me further. Heat pooled low in my belly, my chest pressed against his, my heart galloping so fast I thought it might stop. He kissed me like he could rip the truth from me, like if he pressed harder, deeper, longer, my very soul would answer him.
