The clash between Huangquan Heavenly Wrath and Myriad Spirits Overlapping Waves reverberated again and again across the constructed heavens. Each collision tore apart the void and left rippling echoes across the desolate world. Hidden deep within the Huangquan Saint's soul force were faint strands of Emperor Realm comprehension and those minute shifts of intent were captured one by one by Soul Miesheng.
As the battle raged his consciousness drew those fragments into himself and he felt a sliver of illumination within his heart. The mystery of the Emperor Realm lingered before his mind's eye like a veil half lifted. His aura tightened becoming deeper and more restrained as if drawn inward to some profound core. That single thread of comprehension was enough to break the shackles that bound him at the peak of the Heavenly Realm. His soul power surged forward and in the span of a breath doubled in strength.
Soul Miesheng opened his eyes. His pupils gleamed with an abyssal blackness as though they were gates to a void without end. "Old man thank you. You have allowed me to sense the Emperor Realm."
He stretched his limbs lazily his bearing calm despite the storm around him. Waves of soul power poured outward from him spreading across the air. Each wave built upon the last layering one upon another with greater force.
Ten layers.
A hundred layers.
A thousand layers.
The overlapping waves rose endlessly until at last the Huangquan Heavenly Wrath was halted in its descent. The world shuddered at the defiance.
The Huangquan Saint narrowed his eyes. "This child's soul power has increased. He was using me as his whetstone to comprehend soul force."
The notion unsettled him. Never before had his famed Emperor Realm soul technique been checked by a junior. True it was only because he was but a fragment of his former self. If he had retained his complete soul body the boy could never have resisted. Yet to be forced back even in such a state weighed heavily upon his pride.
Soul Miesheng's gaze sharpened. "It should end now."
Though his soul force had grown this realm was still the domain of the Huangquan Saint. The flow of heaven and earth here bent to the Saint's will and if the fight dragged on too long the balance would surely turn against him.
"Arrogant" the Saint thundered. His voice became a blade and the soundwaves swelled in violence battering against the overlapping waves with renewed fury.
Soul Miesheng only smiled faintly. "Do you think soul power is my only weapon"
Two resonant hums rang out. Around him manifested a sphere of faintly golden thunder and a cluster of dark violet flame. They floated for a moment like twin stars then at his command exploded outward.
"Detonate"
The thunderball shattered into a net of lightning arcs that wrapped across the heavens. The violet black flame erupted into a burning ocean consuming the land and sky. Together lightning and flame spread over most of the world. Thunder and fire were both forces of utmost yang and were natural nemeses to the yin attributes that most soul powers carried.
The dual storm of destruction slammed into the Huangquan Saint's soul energy tearing it apart. Huangquan Heavenly Wrath collapsed under the twin assault.
The Saint staggered a step backward his spectral form wavering. For the first time he truly recognized the terrifying potential of Soul Miesheng. Heavenly Realm perfected soul force mastery of a soul force technique an unshaken heart amidst battle and an arsenal of unexpected methods. Perhaps most unsettling was the suspicion that even now the youth still held something in reserve.
"Hand over what I came for" Soul Miesheng said his black eyes fixed upon the Saint.
The Huangquan Saint let out a quiet sigh. His hand rose and with that motion the ruined landscape stirred. Where fire and thunder had scorched the land vitality returned as if touched by spring wind. Greenery grew once more and illusory beasts reformed breathing life back into the world.
"You are of the Hun Clan are you not" the Saint asked at last.
Soul Miesheng offered no reply.
"There is no need for unease. I hold no grudge with the Hun Clan. It is only that seeing you stirs reflection. In my age the Hun Clan was but a struggling people barely able to survive. Now it seems the outside world has changed beyond imagining." His tone carried the weight of distant years and the quiet sorrow of remembrance.
He lifted his hand again and ripples spread through his spectral body. From within rose a single drop of golden blood essence glowing with supreme vitality. It broke through the space between them and drifted into Soul Miesheng's palm.
The youth studied it. Within the droplet surged boundless energy and the purest of bloodline power. He gave a small nod then carefully stored it away.
At the same moment a strange fluctuation of soul energy entered his body carrying with it vast amounts of information. Techniques unfolded in his mind Huangquan Finger Huangquan Palm and the crowning art Huangquan Heavenly Wrath. Beyond that flowed the Saint's own insights into the Emperor Realm.
"You may leave now" the Saint said with a weary wave.
Soul Miesheng remained still. "One more matter. At the bottom of Huangquan Lake there lies a great abyss. What is buried there"
The Saint's form trembled ever so slightly. He shook his head. "It is a tomb that must never be disturbed."
Soul Miesheng's gaze lingered. He could sense the old spirit concealed knowledge. Whatever lay within the abyss it filled him with an instinctive unease as though some monstrous presence watched from below. Yet if the Saint would not speak there was little to gain by pressing.
"Then another question. With your age you must know of the Cloud Dream Marsh."
The Huangquan Saint belonged to an ancient era and though he had failed to ascend fully into the Emperor Realm few living in the present age could match his knowledge.
"My duty is only to ensure my arts are not lost. Matters beyond that have no relation to me."
Soul Miesheng frowned. In his hand a droplet of black water appeared glowing faintly. He closed his fingers around it and the droplet radiated a dazzling blue light that filled the space. Under the crushing force of the One Origin Heavy Water the world trembled and cracks spread through the fabricated realm.
"Enough" the Saint exclaimed reappearing with resignation. "Cloud Dream Marsh according to ancient records is said to be a wandering space loosely attached to the Dou Qi Continent. Its land is filled with rare spirit herbs that have grown for thousands of years. In the past there was even a great wave of searchers seeking its location. Yet none ever truly entered. Some rumors claim that within exists a unique force that allows spirit herbs to take form and cultivate as men and beasts do. I have never witnessed it myself. Whether it exists I cannot confirm. This is all the knowledge I possess."
With a final shake of his head he waved his hand. The space rippled and expelled Soul Miesheng outward from the stone tablet.
Alone within the fading realm the Huangquan Saint gazed upon the illusions of grass beasts and people that moved with such vitality. "You were right. They are but dead things. And I too am already a dead man." His sigh drifted through the air as the realm dissolved into dust.
Outside the stone tablet Zi Yan stood guard beside Soul Miesheng. She fidgeted with worry her eyes fixed on him. "This stone tablet is safe is it not. Brother has been inside for so long and still there is no sign." Her brows knitted together.
Yao Ming offered reassurance. "With the solidity of his soul force there should be no issue."
Zi Yan bared her small tiger teeth with a growl. "If Brother is harmed I will smash your head."
Cold sweat broke across Yao Ming's brow and he shrank back nervously.
At that moment Soul Miesheng's body shuddered slightly. His eyes opened dark as ink and filled with quiet power. Huangquan Heavenly Wrath had been obtained.
