Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Rarely Did So Well

Lin Hongmei doesn't hate Han Dong, but she hates Sun Chan. Ever since he met that fox spirit, his attitude changed; she definitely seduced him and ruined her chance to become a wealthy wife!

At the hospital, Li Zhaodi, introduced by Aunt Wang, had been waiting for some time, and finally someone introduced a patient who had just undergone heart surgery.

Who knew that just as she got the job, she would awkwardly ask Sun Chan, "Can you watch the patient for a while? I need to send a telegram home today to tell them I found work, or else they'll worry about me. I'll be back soon. The patient just had surgery and hasn't woken up yet, so it won't trouble you much."

Sun Chan thought going a bit later wouldn't be a problem, so she agreed.

"You're so great, thank you, Sun Chan." Li Zhaodi was very happy and ran off quickly.

Sun Chan went into the ward. The patient looked very frail, with closed eyes and still unconscious. She quietly sat by the bedside. She intended to read a book, but to her surprise, Han Dong came through the door.

Sun Chan was shocked and feared waking the patient, "What are you doing here?"

Han Dong was a bit frustrated, "Why are you always like this? You know I'm not pursuing you anymore, can't we just be friends?"

Sun Chan calmly looked at him, "Friendship should happen naturally. Your forceful approach is uncomfortable for me. Just because you're serious for once, doesn't mean I have to accept it, right?"

"What kind of man do you like? I'll change!"

"What do you like about me? I'll change."

Han Dong looked defeated; he thought he wasn't bad-looking, had money, yet he couldn't catch her eye.

Sun Chan said, "Friendship happens naturally, not because you keep pestering. We won't just become friends that way."

"I won't pester you, but don't ignore me either. Why don't you just point out my flaws and, once I change, you'll see my sincerity."

Sun Chan glanced at him, "My friends are all doing something meaningful. I don't like you coming to the hospital every day."

"Got it, I'll find something to do." You could have said earlier that you liked career-oriented people.

Sun Chan stopped talking. Over time, she realized Han Dong wasn't necessarily bad, just a bit twisted regarding romantic relationships; he looked down on women, thinking small favors could win them over, which she disliked.

"Don't worry, I understand what you mean, and I'll improve. My big brother says I'm smart, and once I improve, I'll surely surpass others." Han Dong was excited, confident he could win her heart since she finally wasn't glaring at him.

Sun Chan said, "Men and women should keep their distance. Stop looking for me all the time; it affects my work."

"Understood! I'll head back now and see you in a couple of days!" Han Dong walked off, grinning.

Su Chan reluctantly smiled and picked up her book.

Li Zhaodi returned in less than an hour, said some grateful words, and Sun Chan politely replied before leaving.

That night, she stayed at Wang Dan's place. When everyone returned to see Sun Chan there, setting the table, she made hand-pulled noodles paired with sour beans; it tasted great.

Wang Dan warmly invited everyone to eat, "Haven't tasted Sun Chan's cooking for a long time, come and try it!"

"Great! It smells delicious!" Everyone cheerfully washed their hands.

Seeing Sun Chan, Lin Hongmei's eyes flared, and she stormed in, grabbing her collar as if to hit Sun Chan.

Everyone was shocked; Wang Dan swiftly grabbed her wrist, "Are you crazy? What did Sun Chan do to you that you'd start hitting her?"

"Han Dong was supposed to be mine, but she keeps seducing him. Shouldn't I hit her?"

She was nearly mad, wondering how her man could be lured away by such a clueless village girl!

Sun Chan coldly looked at Lin Hongmei, "Stop spewing nonsense, why would I seduce your boyfriend?"

"You dare say he hasn't approached me? You're a natural fox spirit..."

"What are you talking about!" Sister Du, the oldest, shouted, "What are you saying? We're all unmarried young girls here, doesn't your talk disgust you?"

"I don't care, Sun Chan, swear to me! If you ever meet him, may you die a horrible death!"

Sun Chan sneered, "Why should I swear? Whether I see him or not, what does it have to do with you? If you're so afraid of losing your boyfriend, go blindfold him! Then no one will see him, and he'll behave."

"What are you saying..."

Sun Chan continued, "I've never heard of a wife who won't let other women talk to her husband. Besides, you haven't married him yet. Act normal! Don't disgrace yourself!"

Wang Dan applauded silently, surprised to see Sun Chan so fierce!

If not for those awful remarks earlier, she wouldn't bother. Instead, Lin Hongmei not respecting herself tried picking a fight?

Lin Hongmei lost her mind, still trying to scratch Sun Chan's face, but everyone stopped her.

Wang Dan glared, "Lin Hongmei, consider that guy so frivolous a treasure! Clearly he's toyed with you. Now that he's done, why aren't you confronting him? Do you dare? Just came here to bully Sun Chan, being tough on the weak!"

The other girls didn't speak, but their expressions said it all.

Sister Du advised, "Enough, enough, he might be busy lately, or there's stuff happening at home. Talk to him; if it doesn't work out, just let it go; rich folks aren't easy to join."

Lin Hongmei realized no one supported her, feeling humiliated, then thought her possible fortune might have slipped away. She grew increasingly upset, ran to her room, sprawled on the bed crying loudly, skipping dinner. She indeed dared not confront him; what if he doesn't reform one day, she'd be left empty-handed.

Everyone saw her cry, went over to comfort her with a few words, but Wang Dan pursed her lips, thinking she deserved it. She chose the road; she must walk through it kneeling if necessary. Who cares!

The next day, Sun Chan went to the hospital to check for any temporary caregiver work. Who knew as soon she entered, two women grabbed her, one pulling and hitting her, shouting, "You despicable homewrecker! How could you be so evil? Aren't you afraid of bad karma?"

"I don't know what you're talking about." Su Chan dodged her punches and kicks.

The other woman yelled at her, spitting, "You dare act innocent; my big brother's health collapsed under your care! If he dies, could you afford to compensate? You clueless fool, killing people without consequences!"
