Chapter 2 - Praedator

At nighttime I watched and waited fir Jeannie May to leave the motel office so I could break in. When I saw her enter her house I went to the door and picked the door lock with a small pick I had made while working on my bike. After the door I went to the safe and spent a few minutes getting past it to find if she was already in contact with the legion. When I got past the lock I found the papers and around 4000 caps. I read through it all and found encoded messages between her and her legion contact.

They were already discussing the sell of Carla and the unborn child, but luckily she hadn't yet told them how they could do it undetected. I took the incriminating papers and stole the caps then waited for morning to go to ranger Andy as he was like the town sheriff. I took a nap outside the Dino and woke up at sunrise. I quickly woke Andy and lied to him about seeing her put these papers in a stack and then into her safe.

I could tell that he knew I was lying but he didn't care as he knew how the legion worked and immediately got Boone and Manny outside. He showed them the papers and they went in and arrested her. Most of the town was up by now and followed us as we dragged her to the bridge outside town. There we used some rope and hung her to leave a message for the legion.

The rest of the day I spent buying supplies and other items for my plans pertaining to the legion. I was going to leave for camp searchlight in the morning so I bought a rad suit and lots of radx and radaway. That night I slipped into the Dinky shop area and broke into the storage room. I grabbed That Gun and left to get some sleep before traveling.

I got up just before the sun and set off on the road towards Camp Searchlight. There wasn't much to see on the way there other than ruins and a few critters. I assumed the NCR and others living in the Mojave upkept the roads a bit as this road seemed to be in much better condition than most smaller roads. This road went from Searchlight to the 188 and Boulder City.

I assumed I was here before most pregame events as Carla hadn't been taken and Nipton wasn't destroyed. Being here before the devastation the legion inflicted upon Searchlight was good as I could use my rad suit and bike to haul the waste containers out and away from town. Doing this would completely remove the legions chance of easily getting past Searchlight patrols.

Both Searchlight and Cottonwood Cove had the same weakness, the radioactive waste containers near or in their area. It took a day to get to Searchlight but it was worth it as I got to see the town at night in all its glory. The town was much larger than in game and had many more people. When I got past a basic checkpoint outside town I went straight to the police station.

In the station I met with the CO who was a lieutenant colonel who seemed to have more intelligence than most officers in the NCR. I spoke with him about the waste which they couldn't get rid of due to lack of resources and authorization. Some higher up didn't see the need to get this stuff out of town and waste money to do it. This pissed of the CO and his officers but with me they could now transport the waste far from the town.

The CO had his men make a trailer for my bike and I began transporting the waste down the road to the airport. By the time I had removed the 6 waste canisters it was near midday and everyone that had been working on this–including me–were dead tired and we all slammed into the barrack of the base. It was nighttime when I woke and I grabbed two soldiers from their bunks and recruited them to watch the entrance to the fire station as I went it and cleared it out.

Clearing the station was easy but the loot was terrible as the only thing worth much was Knock-Knock the fire axe. The axe was incredibly fine, even after the apocalypse and sitting in that building for however long it did, it wasn't even slightly rusted. The blade was super sharp and had no damage whatsoever and the haft was barely worn.

With the axe in hand I left the building and went to prepare my plans for cottonwood cove. The CO had been nice enough to set up a place for me to stay in the police station and I left most of my stuff there along with my motorbike. I went down the road towards Cottonwood cove and then climbed a mountain side when I got to the split in the road going to the overlook.

I eventually spotted the snipers nest and began making my way to it. Climbing the mountain side took close to 3 hours but I made it up without much trouble. When I got to the building I grabbed the minor loot and pulled the footlocker to me while drawing Knock-Knock. With a bit of prying the lock on the box broke and I popped open the lid. Inside was what I had been looking for, the Gobi Campaign Scout Rifle.

The Gobi was a unique gun in game found here and had been used to spy of cottonwood cove by the NCR. The Gobi was all around better than the normal sniper rifle in game and was decently powerful. While it wasn't Christine's COS rifle it was still very good and I would be hard pressed to find much else that could compete besides an anti-material rifle.

Now with the rifle I went back to Searchlight and slept. I woke up in the morning and had a good breakfast bought from a small shop in town. After breakfast I began making a ghillie suit. I started with lots of thin string and tied it all together in a net. I made multiple nets to match my body so I could make a form fitting suit. With the nets I tied many tan cloth pieces to it to make it have some body and camo. With the cloth in place I put on the suit and went out to hunt.

I traveled in the mountains between Cottonwood Cove and Camp Searchlight while grabbing foliage from around the area and tying it into my ghillie. After a while I eventually found my target, a group of legion soldiers who where patrolling or going to a camp. A few hours of following them later and I find a small camp near the cliff side to the river.

At night I moved into the camp and pulled the combat knife I bought. They primitive legion had only lit the camp with torches and fires so it was easy to travel in the shadows. In the camp I began eliminating all enemies in tents and closed of parts. I had slit the throats of 15 men by the time that only the awake soldiers were left alive. There was only 5 left and I liked my odds as they were just recruits.

One left to do something and I made him disappear in the bushes in a few seconds. When I got back to the others they had noticed something wrong and split up to check the camp. I made two more disappear and let the last two find out that they were the only ones alive. They got to the center of the camp and I prepared for the last part of this hunt.

I pulled out the long metal wire lasso I had made. I quickly snatched one guy and pulled him to me and put my knife in his eye. The last panicked and ran out of the camp after grabbing a torch. With him gone I grabbed the few guns, ammo and other useful things and tossed the remaining torches on the tents. With this camp gone I made my way back to Camp Searchlight and arrived a little after sunrise.

Back in town I quickly ate a small meal and went to bed to get some sleep before going out to hunt again. After sleeping I went to the CO and convinced him to pay some caps per legion ears like the in game bounties. With the bounties on I left to hunt again. I had negotiated a low bounty that gave me room and board in town. With a good income and housing I stayed in town for nearly two months while hunting and exploring.

I had racked up over 130 legions kills and I now planned to take out Cottonwood Cove. I wasn't going to destroy it like in game with the waste barrels in the truck at the overlook. I wanted to get all the loot and anything else I could out of that place. With my plan set up I began preparing by scouting the cove from the overlook for a week. Even with me hunting the legion here they hadn't increased security or put anyone at the overlook.

I had started being called the Praedator by the legion and had a massive bounty of 1000 caps put on my head. When it was announced a small flock of bounty hunters came to town but apparently the NCR made it illegal to take legion bounties and arrested the idiots upon arrival. With the scouting done and the hunters gone I moved to the overlook with my bike with wagon and prepared my elimination of the legion in the cove.

That night I easily got into the main building and took out the deacanus in the radio room and looted the ammo and medical supplies. With him taken care of I destroyed the radio and equipment then made my way to the top floor. I broke in and pulled the silenced 10mm I bought and unloaded it in Aurelius's face. With him gone there were now only 52 enemies left and they had no leadership left.

I hunted them throughout the night and by morning only Canyon Runner was left. When he left the building he stayed in I put a 308 round through his skull and left to get my bike. Over the next few days I looted over 50 guns and over 200 melee weapons. I also grabbed the centurion and deacanus armor along with all the ears of the legion. I took down all the tents and legion stuff and burned it in a pile with the bodies.

At the end of the cleanup the NCR that I had the CO call in from the Mojave Outpost arrived and set up a FOB with many laser turrets that had come from somewhere. With them there I took the bike up to the overlook and welded the door to the hanging truck shut and left for Searchlight. Back in town I sold most of the weapons and claimed the ear bounty from the CO.

With Cottonwood Cove now in NCR hands and over 12000 caps in a box I left to Novac. I got to Novac at night and slept there till morning and left after updating them on Cottonwood Cove and what had happened over there. After another day of travel I got to the 188 and upgraded my gear with stuff I got from the Arms merchant. I now had heavy steel armor and thick leather underneath. I was a tank and had powerful weapons to match my toughness.

I had the Gobi rifle, That Gun, a service rifle, a silenced 10mm, and two sawed off shotguns on my bike. Most normal threats in the wasteland wouldn't pose much danger to me now. I left the upgrades I left the 188 and went towards New Vegas but planned to stop at Repconn HQ to loot the place as it was easy to get through.

I eventually got to the building and entered with That Gun drawn. I put a bullet in each robot in the first room and then shot out the lock on the door to progress. I went through and did the same to the storage room door and looted multiple laser and plasma guns along with ammo and some grenades. I then went to the metal door to the Q-35 matter modulator. I activated a plasma grenade and placed it on the turn handles of the door and ran.

It shook the building and I could hear the robots begin moving upstairs. I went through the still molten metal door hole and grabbed the rifle from its storage thing. I quickly left and began driving to New Vegas.
