Chapter 42 - The Three Brothers

"No, I have something important to do. You shouldn't follow me."

Unexpectedly, Hu Liena started to act cute. You know, fox spirits are naturally charming, and with her acting like this, Jiang Xiaofeng could barely hold himself together.

Luckily, Mo Bot appeared just in time to resolve Jiang Xiaofeng's crisis.

"Your Highness the Saintess, the Holy Son is going to handle official matters, not for fun. Please don't disturb him."

Hu Liena hugged Jiang Xiaofeng's arm, and those newly-developed steamed buns of hers were pressing right against it. Jiang Xiaofeng felt like he got electrocuted and quickly pushed Hu Liena away.

"Nana, I'm serious, it's something my teacher arranged. If you don't believe me, ask Mo Bot."

Hu Liena looked at Mo Bot, who nodded.

Hu Liena finally let Jiang Xiaofeng go this time.

"Fine, then bring me back some food from outside. I'm sick of eating soul beast meat. If I don't eat something else soon, I'm gonna throw up!"

Jiang Xiaofeng replied, "No problem. I'm off then!"

After saying that, he dashed out of the camp immediately. If he stayed any longer, who knows what kind of tricks Hu Liena would come up with.

As soon as he left the camp, Jiang Xiaofeng put on his mask. Unfortunately, he hadn't even left Death Canyon before being stopped by three men.

"Kid, hand over your treasures, and we'll let you walk out alive!"

Jiang Xiaofeng frowned. Two Soul Exalts, one Senior Soul Master—a bit troublesome, but only a bit.

He'd seen this situation plenty of times before. As expected, the ones blocking his path ended up dead.

Same logic in this world: soul masters much stronger than him had no interest in him. Those about the same level would definitely not let a lone Senior Soul Master off the hook.

"And what if I don't?"

"Haha, big bro, this kid's got guts. A lone Senior Soul Master dares to say that to the three of us? Either he's scared stupid or just a dumbass."

"Kid, do you even know how to write the word 'death'? If you don't hand it over, we'll take it ourselves!"

Jiang Xiaofeng smirked. "Then all three of you come at me."

"Arrogant bastard! Get him, quick and clean. He probably has someone backing him—kill first, ask later."

"Got it, boss! I'm going first. First soul skill—Tiger Claw!"

Jiang Xiaofeng sneered. All three had beast martial spirits—two wolves and a tiger. Bold move. Didn't they know beast martial spirits lose to tool spirits early on?

Jiang Xiaofeng didn't hold back. As soon as the Zhuxian Sword appeared, he used his first soul skill.

"First Soul Skill—Tiger Roar!"

"ROAR!"

The three instantly froze! One of them took a direct hit and was blown away.

"Second Soul Skill—Phantom Sword!"

Eighteen Zhuxian Swords flew out instantly. The trio could only struggle to defend themselves.

"Big bro! This guy's weird! No way a Senior Soul Master can pull off that kind of barrage!"

"Third Soul Skill—Tiger Roar!"

Though it had the same name as Jiang Xiaofeng's first skill, it had a different effect. This third soul skill shattered his second one—it was a sonic attack, and it gave them a much-needed breather.

"One Step to Heaven!"

"Tiger Fist, Second Form—Explosion!"

Naturally, Jiang Xiaofeng targeted the leader first.

While Soul Exalts were stronger than Senior Soul Masters, his skin wasn't as thick as a 5,000-year soul beast. That punch sent him foaming at the mouth and convulsing on the ground.

Jiang Xiaofeng shook his head. "So weak, and you're out here robbing people? What were you thinking?"

Even if a power-type Senior Soul Master landed a punch, it wouldn't normally wreck a Soul Exalt like that. But Jiang Xiaofeng wasn't using power from this world.

The other two saw their big brother fall and didn't dare move a muscle.

One Senior Soul Master took down a level-33 Soul Exalt in one hit. Who the hell was this guy?

Especially the Senior Soul Master—he was so scared he nearly pissed himself.

"You two still wanna rob me?"

"N-no, we were just messing with you, big bro! If you've got business, please carry on, we..."

Jiang Xiaofeng asked, "So you're really not robbing me? What about you?"

The other Soul Exalt trembled too—he had just reached Soul Exalt, only level 31. If the level 33 big bro got wrecked, what chance did he have?

He instantly dropped to his knees.

"Big bro, we were seriously just joking! Please don't take it seriously!"

Jiang Xiaofeng shook his head. "All three of you are in your twenties, and this is all you've got?"

"Tell you what, take me to Blackhorn City."

"Uh, big bro, we just came from there, so..."

Jiang Xiaofeng glared at him, and the guy shut up immediately.

"Big bro, don't be mad. We'll take you right away. Can we wake our big bro up first?"

Looking at their leader passed out under his foot, the two begged pitifully.

Jiang Xiaofeng nodded and kicked the guy. He woke up instantly.

"Son of a—"

Jiang Xiaofeng stared him down. The guy shut up fast. That earlier feeling—if this guy wanted him dead, he'd already be a hundred times over.

"What are your names?"

The level-33 Soul Exalt replied, "Big bro, I'm Tiger Boss, he's Wolf Second, and he's Wolf Third. We're the Three Brothers. We may not look alike, but we're blood—well, cousins."

Jiang Xiaofeng was speechless.

"Alright, Tiger Boss, lead the way."

"Big bro, follow me! I'll take you right now!"

Up in the trees, a Soul Master watched with a smile but didn't follow. One of his men did. He had to stay.

"Now that's more like a Holy Son."

With the Three Brothers leading, the road to Blackhorn City was much smoother.

They even had a carriage in a village, and provided Jiang Xiaofeng with fresh food. The three were downright thoughtful.

On the carriage—

"What exactly do you guys do?"

Tiger Boss replied, "Big bro, you might not know. We're merchants, scavenging through Death Canyon for deals—hoping to find some sucker willing to sell us Death Qi Pearls cheap, then we flip 'em at the auction house for profit."

Jiang Xiaofeng looked speechless.

"I assume there aren't many suckers?"

"Of course not. But even one can earn us a fortune. Big bro, do you have any Death Qi Pearls? With your strength, 3,000-year soul beasts shouldn't be a problem. The drop rate's low, but maybe you got some?"

Turns out Jiang Xiaofeng really did have some. Others had nowhere to store them, so they were kept in his Sea Moon Ring—over a dozen.

"So you were trying to score off me, huh?"

Tiger Boss laughed nervously. "No no no, I've just got a sales channel! Saves you time, big bro. We'll handle the sale, guaranteed good price!"

Jiang Xiaofeng nodded. This kind of corruptive item was useless to him. The boost wasn't worth the cost. Selling it was the better option.

"Alright, I've got a few. Once we're in Blackhorn City, you sell them for me. If you dare skim off the top, don't blame me for being rude!"

Tiger Boss wouldn't dare. Jiang Xiaofeng was clearly not someone to mess with. Young as he looked, his demeanor screamed veteran. They didn't have many skills—but reading people was one of them.
